I'm too lazy to read the bill, and it's obvious that you know what you're talking about, so I trust your judgement: will all firearms need to be licensed and registered, or does this only concern insane type weapons, like semi-automatics?

Read it.

Same "federal registration" B.S. we get every few years in different forms. Given the number of firearms out there already, it really is just another worthless, feel-good, piece of legislation. It is just another step on the "slippery slope."

There is no real justification for registering firearms. Misuse of firearms is already regulated...you hurt/kill someone ; you shoot into the air, etc., already consequences for those things.

People who abide by the law aren't the problem, and that's what this registration regulation will cause to be the problem. it becomes a burden on good people. The "bad guys" don't register their firearms. They don't get Concealed Carry permits (don't start me up on that.) And they sure as heck wouldn't abide by this law either.

Yea, I've always felt the same way about all of those other things we register. I mean if we are not going to register guns, why register anything ?

And the enforcement of such a law would work how Kirata.....and you know very well the answer to that question. It wouldn't work and you know it.No way in hell this ever makes it to law ,without a grandfather clause...even than doubtful it sees the light of day.

A semi-automatic isn't really (in my opinion) an "insane" weapon. It's just a weapon that automatically ejects the spent cartridge when fired and chambers a fresh round. Actually, high-power hunting and sniper rifles are typically not semi-automatics. But to answer your question, the bill applies to everything except antiques and bolt action rifles.

The term ‘qualifying firearm’--

(A) means-- (i) any handgun; or (ii) any semiautomatic firearm that can accept any detachable ammunition feeding device; and (B) does not include any antique.

Well Kittin, before you thank him you might want to ask him what the chance's are that this bill,as is,ever winds up on a President's desk.Given the large and pernicious lobbying on behalf of gun advocates this happens when hell freezes over.In other words another bullshit issue.

Mike, I'm one of tens of millions of people who are willing to give President Obama the benefit of the doubt.
But, if he tries to push regressive gun laws or any type of amnesty for illegal aliens that benefit of the doubt will vanish and we'll have another one-term president in office.

Popeye this bill was not introduced by President Obama, and this bill as is would never reach President Obama's desk....not in our lifetime. Those lobbiest that you are so fond of on K street are tirelessly working to ensure that fact.

Don't see a problem here, other than the aforementioned isn't enough thing.
BTW Crush all of the regulations you cited have one thing in common, they are all after the fact consequences...none of them address the need to prevent some people from possessing some types of weapons.

There is no "before the fact" way to keep those weapons out of people's hands...but the numbers say that the people who shouldn't have them is an extremely small fraction of a percentage.  Quoted this elsewhere in a different thread.  And most likely, like the recent shootings in Alabama, the guy was probably O.K. to own weapons until he flipped out.

However, you DO have to clear a check already before you purchase a gun from a dealer already.  In Florida, the Gunshine State, you still have to wait three days for a handgun purchase unless you have a CCW already...because you already were fingerprinted and had a background check.

Actually, semi-automatics aren't insane weapons...are you thinking of weapons that are capable of fully automatic fire which require a Class III permit already...(Yeah, I disagree with that too, but that's a different thread.)

DOH...already answered.....

Well that crack about weapons capable of fully automatic fire sort of raises a red flag to me when evaluating your post's.

It's not a bill.  It's a press release.  Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to learn the NRA secretly donates to the campaigns of the proponents, just to seed a new crop of donations and life memberships.
