Anyone who takes or threatens to take vetern benefits away is a forked tongued snake.  I don't care who it is.

Meaning that you believe this nonsense?

Sorry, but let's think about this for a second.

Do you really believe that the Obama administration is intent on political suicide?

I would think there is something not right about this whole story.

housesub4you -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 1:54:13 PM)

Ahhhh.....it seems before an election every person up for office supports the troops, but after the election things change.

Hell, I'm not just saying  just Bush, look at every President back to Nixon, they all supported troops during th eelection and them fucked them after the election.

Vets get treated even worse, the only thing I'm saying is the article is about 1 thing on the table and even the article says the chances of it happening are near zero, Obama will do better for the troops, but all people choose to see is the bad....

LadyPact -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 1:57:12 PM)

To tell you the truth, if this were Obama's second term, rather than his first, I'd be more concerned about it.  Since I'm sure the man is already thinking of his re-election, like most politicians, he knows such a thing would be the death of his political career.

angelikaJ -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 1:57:59 PM)

Changing the way benefits may be funded is not necessarily a bad thing... if the changes make things easier or services more accessible or cut unnecessary costs.
You can change the efficiency of a system and clearly, the VA system is broken.

I am not defending cutting veteran's services; however I think making assumptions about what may or may not happen is premature and the best way to ensure adequate care for all veterans is to become involved.

Call your Senators and Reps and volunteer with Veteran's organizations and agencies that serve veteran's needs;
contact your town's office of veteran's affairs.

Bush isn't President anymore.  Obama is President, and the wrongs of the Bush Administration are not a valid reason for Obama to make bad decisions.  Honestly it sounds incredibly childish when Obama supporters do this.

As an Obama supporter, I totally agree. We elected him to do things differently than Bush. In fact, that was the whole point of his campaign - CHANGE. "Bush did it too" is a pathetic, insulting defense. I agree with those who say that if Obama is even considering this, it's nothing short of shameful.

Tell you what... in a year we will discuss it.  Until then... no one can say what is going to happen.  But to speak of taking things promised from those this country used... is what I am commenting on.  Don't touch those vets!

Childish it may be, but where was your voice when Bush was sending troops to their death while cutting benefits of those who survived?

Lockit -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 2:03:35 PM)

Yeah Ben Nighthorse was all for vets benies... lol  All polish and not much down to earth basic shine... the only shine he was polishen was on his knob.  Vet's have come from war with deadly illness's... how long did it take to get them help?  It if wasn't for Ross Puroe funding reseach on Gulf war disease... I am not so sure the vets with the problem would be getting help... they might be standing in line with those with the big Orange.

We have not been faithful to our vet's and even a rumor of more disregaurd for them.. I am up in arms.

rulemylife -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 2:11:17 PM)

Then maybe you shouldn't rely on rumors, which is all this article was.

I don't have any direct experience with the VA, but I did drive and assist a veteran in a visit or two to the VA "hospital" and all I can say is that someone that takes those benefits away may actually be doing them a favor!

Now don't misunderstand ... the point I am making is that those benefits were promised to the vets and if *anyone* deserves them, has *earned* them, they do! And they deserve very good care!

We as taxpayers also deserve to get good value for our money that goes to pay for that care ... not the red-tape rig-a-ma-roll FUBAR system that's in place now.

How very duplicitous of Obama ... one of his major campaign platforms that got him elected was "universal health care"! Now he dares to suggest that we take it away from the people that it was promised to as part of the compensation for risking their lives and limbs, and he wants to *give* it to people that may have done *nothing* to earn or deserve it! Please tell me where my thinking is wrong here?

Lockit -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 2:14:23 PM)

Whatever... many things rumored end up becoming fact.  I'd rather address a rumor and find it not true... while making sure it isn't... as a sure fire way to cover some ass.

Again, please point out to me where Obama has directly supported this.

I didn't support cutting benefits for veterans when Bush was President, and I said so.  Now that your non-argument can't go any further with me, stick to the current matter at hand.  Again Bush's wrongs do not excuse Obama.  Sooner or later, you're going to have to give up your obsession and anger over the Bush Administration.  It's over, it's done with, he isn't President anymore.  Move on.

I agree for the most part.  But.. some are getting some help.  Change the system... give them better.. for sure... but don't take anything away until there is a better replacement.  You should see the letter's I've written on what a national shame the va hospitals were for the most part.

No, it unfortunately continues to affect us on a daily basis, so believe it or not, I'm still pretty pissed off.

Wellit's the same old story, the little guy gets fucked. Do you want to evoke my opinions about PERS vs SS and vs the politicians entitlement ? Do you want me to actually go get my gun ?

As they take away from SS and give to themselves, why would you think these scumbags would think anything of those who they send out to fight and die for what ? Money. I expected no less, that fucking the little guy was always, and shall remain on the table as long as we can't find any true representatives or leaders. More on this in a new thread later.

The policies of FDR's administration affect us everyday too (social security).  The policies of many past administrations affect us today.  But it's up to the current powers that be to handle present problems.  When the current powers that be make bad decisions, you can't blame anyone else but them.

You're right Rule.

"Veterans groups are angry after President Barack Obama told them Monday that he is still considering a proposal to have treatment for service-connected injuries charged to veterans' private insurance plans.
Leaders of the country's most prominent veterans groups met Monday at the White House with Obama, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Steven Kosiak, the director in charge of defense spending for the Office of Management and Budget.
Some of the veterans groups were caught off guard when the president said the administration is still thinking about the idea as a way of generating $540 million for the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2010. "

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/17/obama.veterans/

"Last month, 11 veterans groups wrote a letter to Obama, saying, "There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran's personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide." "

http://www.kaisernetwork.org/daily_reports/rep_index.cfm?DR_ID=57522

I highly doubt that the VA and other Veteran organizations have their panties in a wad and have had, and are planning more, meetings with Obama and his team over rumors.
If it was a rumor, Mr. President would have told them that, he and his gang wouldn't be evading questions about it. Nor wasting their time meeting with them over speculation.
Sorry, it just isn't logical.

                        mbmbn

But we will see in a few days when they meet with Rahm Emanuel.

Veterans groups angry at Obama Boston Globe - ‎51 minutes ago‎

The Vietnam Veterans of America praised Obama's budget, but also blasted the insurance proposal.

"VVA joins fellow veterans' service organizations in condemning the proposal advanced by the Office of Management and Budget to raise revenue by charging a veteran's private health insurer for services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs for service-connected health conditions," the group's national president, John Rowan, said in statement.

"However, as far as veterans are concerned, this is the best budget submitted by a President in the 30-year history of VVA."

Comparing bad to bad or a lil less bad... well... it's still bad.
