Wasnt just me Ven:) there were talks of boycotting a lot of Canadian companies,  I have no clue how it affected others, not even sure how it afffected me, but it happened.
Even tho we were sending guys and gals out to afganistan( we really are sposed to be peacekeepers) we dont have the money or resources  apart from the desire to stay out of the mess.
I hope that the Vets get what they need to live and get thru their  lives, altho I am a pacifist by heart, from people I know who have served, I am for them, rather than the politicians who screw them over( in all three countries(US,UK and Canada)

I am retired military and you can't get me within a mile of a VA hospital, my father died from improper care while a patient in the Beckley WV facility. Many physicians are working on a permit and many of their language skills leave much to be desired,Many need a nurse to sorta of translate what they are saying. For those that must use VA facility's good luck...I think the government has always shafted us vets in one form or another so screwing with our health care plan is just another face slap to those that has bled for our country many like myself has bled many time,,,Our current president socialist incompetent president is just another user of us vets..BH

My father spent much of his life in and out of VA hospitals and his care was comparable or better than any other hospital I have seen.

Maybe just due to the difference between a rural and metro area.

Many of the doctors at the VA here are also on staff at the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, which are two of the leading research hospitals in the country.

In fact, when the VA hospital wasn't able to accommodate a specific procedure, he was often transferred to one of these two, still covered under his veteran's benefits.

The U.N. signed off on it because Colin Powell presented a whole lot of what has since been proven to be faulty intelligence, which was in turn spoon-fed to him by those in the administration who wanted war with Iraq from the start.

President Hussein (Iraq's, not ours) convinced the intelligence agencies of the world he had WMD.

Hussein lied, and died.

How many troops?

Many of these countries sent only military advisors in non-combat roles, and most of these countries sent only a handful of personnel as a token show of support.

Kittens page shows that 54 countries, didnt. from the page........
The following countries have protested formally and officially the prosecution of this war. They oppose the Iraq War in principle, citing in some cases that they believe it is illegal, and in others that it required a United Nations mandate. The 54 countries named below include all 7 of the most populous countries of the world (other than the USA), which 7 comprise half of the world's population. The list without flags  wouldnt come up, but its at the bottom of kittens page.

You needed 4,500 dead U.S. troops and over 100,000 dead Iraqi civilians to assassinate a foreign head of government? Give me a break.

Token support admittedly; support nonetheless.

Out of idle curiosity, Lucy, do you find a single dictator in the world who failed to condemn it? A single Communist hole?

No, he didn't.

There was plenty of information at hand which showed he did not have WMD's.

That information was cherry-picked to provide a case for war.

(By the way, the President Hussein thing is getting a little old)

What similarity do you see in common among most of the European contingent in terms of geography and economic development?  Don't you remember the whole old Europe and new Europe mantra?

Folks, since some of you seem to have forgotten, this is a thread about the possible loss of VA benefits.  If you want to rehash reasons for the war or who supported it or any other topic, please start a new thread.

The White House announced late today that it has dropped a proposal -- strongly objected to by veterans groups -- to bill vets' private insurance for treatment of service-related injuries and disabilities.
The proposal was designed to generate more than $540 million a year for the Department of Veterans Affairs, but opponents said it broke faith with service members and threatened to use up insurance benefits that their families also use.................................Therefore, the President has instructed that its consideration be dropped

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2009/03/obama_drops_vet.html

Hmmmmm. looks like the story was real and accurately reported. Not rumor and inuendo. The President himself said to drop the idea, which means the idea was being considered, as previously reported. Not an anti Obama hype job, a neo con conspiracy to ruin Obama, not a right wing scare tactic or anything else the O-bots tried to excuse him for.

I don't even think I can give him credit for his retraction. If not for the Veterans groups, public outcry, emails and calls to representatives AND the Dems telling him point blank that he was dead in the water and he had no support or backing among his own people, I am 100% sure he would have proceeded with his proposal. The credit lies in the Vets groups, Senators and Congressman who stood up to him, and all the folks who made their voices heard in whatever form.

Thank God.

Obama and his evil cohorts have been thwarted once again.

Now we are back to truth, justice, and the American way.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 4:19:39 PM)

No, rulemylife. It is the first time Obama has met with widespread opposition. Not just from the neo cons, but from his own party.

It's too bad that you could not make one comment on the actual subject, which was cutting VA benefits. Mocking and chiding is all I have seen in this thread. If you supported Mr. President on the subject, you could have said so, I suspect you did not, but couldn't bring yourself to actually verbalize he made a mistake.

How did Obama make a mistake, if he decided not to make a mistake?

Gee, I thought I did verbalize that I disagreed with it.

What I also verbalized was this was so much hot air over nothing.

This was nothing more than some bureaucrats  thinking out loud.

Obama Drops Controversial Health Care Plan for Wounded Veterans -
Obama met with 11 veterans service organizations on Monday and explained his plan to increase funding for Veterans Affairs by $25 billion over five years and bring more than 500,000 eligible veterans of modest income into the VA health care system by 2013.

And even if you believe he actually wanted to cut veteran's benefits, despite the quote above, at least he reversed himself.

Something a former holder of his office would never have.
