Huh no one really bitched when Bush cut VA spending while sending troops to die, but because Obama has 1 thing on the table everyone is saying the sky is falling.

No one bitched about it? Really? You are wrong about that.

quote:

Jeez, I remember when not to long ago the VA was on TV with walls covered in mold, and falling apart and the GOP was like.. this will never happen again and then failed to approved the spending increase

Yep this is one of the promises the GOP failed on, along with many others. Both The Dems and the Reps have neglected and dumped on our veterans.

It's just 1 thing on the table, among 100's of others things.  Time to stop, slow down and not fall for everything someone is trying to sell you.

It shouldn't be on the table at all. In fact the opposite should be occuring. Try looking into how under budget the psychiatric area for the VA is. Look into "walking wounded.

I am just as disgusted with this, as I am with how veterans have been treated by politicians for as long as we have been a country.

Crush -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/17/2009 11:55:38 PM)

Let me see the government do right by our Veterans before they even think about nationalizing health care.  If they can't get this straightened out and get it right for these folks who risked and gave so much for the rest of us, there is no way in hell they are going to get it right for the rest of us.

I hope this was just one of those trial balloons sent up to see who would pop it.  Because National Defense is supposed to be Job #1 for the Federal government and caring our Defenders should be among its first priorities.

One thing that is for sure, congress would never vote away the assistance and aid to our military.

I wish I thought Pres Hussein and and Nancy Peloser were the only Dims in DC who hated the military

Oh yes we did.

I agree. Let's not send them out to die on useless foreign adventures under the spurious pretence that they're fighting for 'our freedom', to start with.

MarsBonfire -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 5:10:50 AM)

So... the suggestion here is, IF a vet already has insurance, they wouldn't be able to "double dip" on the VA supplied care. (A system that is alread stretched to the breaking point by two wars that have lasted longer than WWII) Dang, that is so out of left feild to just SUGGEST that... (which is all that has happened so far)

Unlike Bush and McCain and the other republicans in Congress who voted to cut vets benefits, even as they were coming back from battle with their bodies shattered for not having body armor... cut them SIX TIMES, in fact. (So much for the Republican mantra of "support the troops." It seems to be more a case of "support the troops until they are no longer able to be used, then discard them.)

housesub4you -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 5:44:35 AM)

OK, perhaps I should have stated no one in the GOP Party bitched, even though they sure did go on TV about how much they support our troops when the whole Vet hospital thing blew up.

Even McCain failed to support increases in Vet funding, though publiclly he kept saying no one supports the troops better then him because he is a vet.

As for the others saying this should not even be on the table, that is how the system works, you throw out every option and go through them.   Tossing out the bad and hopfully keeping the good.

~FR~

I see a lot of partisan apologies and excuses. I see no difference in Dems or Reps, the politicians or their supporters.

kittinSol -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 6:25:17 AM)

No more cretinous 'wars'. That's as universal as it gets.

Why did Obama outlaw that too? This war was not wrong to everyone, it just became popular to say it for poltical motivations. That may have in itself been cretinous.

Now if you wish to imply that there were cretinous acts, strategies or individuals, I'll go along with that. But we do have the advantage of hindsight so I doubt we're anymore righteous than most others.

kittinSol -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 7:20:46 AM)

No, Bull. The entire world knew that the invasion of Iraq was wrong - it is the American public that had wool pulled over their eyes and that were fooled into thinking it was a good idea. It's nothing to do with hindsight. People in Europe were up in arms over this before the U.S. invaded. How come they knew more than you?

xBullx -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 7:34:04 AM)

So now it's just all us Americans that are stupid (ok so you didn't say stupid, apparently we're just to easily manipulated)...

Gosh, that's the first time a European has ever said something like that about us rowdy, foolish, upstart, uneducated, unsophisticated colonists.

Thanks for the love...

(Ohhhh, I believe it was the French that were the ones that were making the most noise and it seem that just might have been because they had their hands buried shoulder deep in the cookie jar.)

kittinSol -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 7:38:03 AM)

Stupid? No. Naive, perhaps. Lied to, definitely. You should take issue with Cheney, not me, Bull. He chose to send your countrymen and women to their deaths.

Fact 1: The U.N. signed off on the war.
Fact 2: More nations were involved in this coalition than in 1990.

Leftie mobs in France and Germany don't count as "the whole world".

kittinSol -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 8:01:12 AM)

Lies again. I was in Switzerland at the time of the invasion: the Swiss press reported widely on the lies propagated by Cheney & Co at the very time they were planning the illegal invasion of Iraq.

Opposition to the Iraq War.

Lucylastic -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 8:17:48 AM)

People south of the border still havent forgiven Canadians for not getting involved in the iraq war, so to say it was not opposed is bs. I myself received several emails saying they wouldnt be ordering from me because I was in Canada.

kittinSol -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 8:20:49 AM)

And now, in the face of the overwhelming evidence that military service men and women went off to die for nothing, got injured and maimed for nothing, and receive substandard medical treatment from the very country that sent them off to war, people somehow manage to blame Obama. It's postmodern *sigh*.

xBullx -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 8:26:45 AM)

I see...

Well thanks for that clarification...

The U.N. signed off on it because Colin Powell presented a whole lot of what has since been proven to be faulty intelligence, which was in turn spoon-fed to him by those in the administration who wanted war with Iraq from the start.

Vendaval -> RE: Military People may lose VA Benefits under Obama (3/18/2009 8:37:18 AM)

I am very sorry to hear that, Lucy.  Makes no sense to me.
