Umm yea, we all know/knew it, they finally admit it. And yet some people still act/pretend that they are an unbiased outlet of news and "facts". :)

Isn't that the press's job? The whole 4th estate and all that? Woodward and Bernstein were heroes, but since Fox is more conservative, they're EEEEEVilllll. Give me a fucking break.

quote:

“There were a couple of people who basically wrote about our demise come last November (and) December and were, I guess, rooting for us to go away,” said Bill Shine, senior vice president for programming at the Fox News Channel. “With this particular group of people in power right now, and the honeymoon they’ve had from other members of the media, does it make it a little bit easier for us to be the voice of opposition on some issues?”

This is a problem why?

Well, it's ok. Dems have 3 or 4 other news organizations rooting for them.

I can't tolerate any of them, Fox included. I grew up on the premise that a reporter brought objectivity to the table rather than his or her own agenda, and it was what I brought to the table when I worked as a reporter.

That is a particular attribute none of them can claim any more.

Isn't it just bizarre how Fox news was NOT the voice of the opposition during the Bush administration  ?

Come on people. It has been gone over several times. News channels are not news really. They are just another form of entertainment. They will each try to gain a core demographic. Fox's core demographic is Repubs, it seems. All of them are biased, just some more than others, which Fox news seems to be.

Actually, some news organisations do try and deal with the news even handedly.

What's sad with Fox isn't so much their brazen and shameless adoration of all things 'conservative' (and Republican), but that their audience takes them seriously.

Gee.  I thought "dissent is patriotic".

Or at least that is what everyone who opposed Republicans over the previous 8 years spouted on a constant basis.

But, suddenly, when their ideological group is in control of the government ... being a voice of opposition is called being "biased", and consists of "misinformation" and "propaganda".

Got it.

The problem is that journalists are supposed to be the voice of objectivity, not opposition.

Hmm, I've been saying that Fox news is biased since I was about 10 and pointed it out to my mother. In high school was when I started to notice that a lot of their 'news' was misinformation... and part of *being* biased is spouting propaganda.

So, uh, I don't think anyone's changing their tune regarding Fox news (or at least, I'm not).

The difference being CNN will run a story titled "Will the stimulus package fail?" while Fox will run the same story titled "Why the stimulus package will fail".

I can't ever remember CNN, CBS, ABC or any other news organization being so blatantly partisan.

Fox news, where did I hear that before ? Oh yeah, they got Dick Goddard, one of the highest rated meteorologists in the country. That's where I get my weather forecast. The rest of the hour is just commercials.

The death of "real journalism" is bemoaned regularly in the culture Fox has helped create. That considered, Mr. Shine's words come not without a strong note of irony. It's clear the network is heavily conservative in ideology, or else it would have coined the slogan "the voice of opposition" much earlier.

I for one am glad to see the demise of the conservative majority for now. Conservatism in it's pure form has some sound points, but I think religious and commercial special interest have tinkered with the cause too much. That said, some honest form of libertarianism is in strong need of a real mouthpiece in Washington. The polarization that the two current political parties bring to American leadership worries me.

The problem with that, Firm, is that the proper role of a news organization is to report the facts and let the reader or the listener decide what position they're going to take - whether to support or oppose any particular party on any given issue. To whatever extent any news organization can claim any degree of credibility as a legitimate reporter of the news, that legitimacy derives solely from their claim to be objective

This is the first time in my life have I ever heard an American news organization refer to itself as the "voice of opposition" to a sitting government. That's an open admission that their objective is not to report the facts and let the average citizen make up their own mind, but to openly oppose the government. That's a dangerous mission for an organization that masquerades as a reliable resource for people looking for the information they need to make up their own minds.

You put your finger on the root cause of the death of true conservatism in this country. Classic, traditional libertarian conservatism has been replaced by authoritarian conservatism. Where are the Eisenhower Republicans? The party of "leave me alone" has become the party of "you can't do that." The party that warned us about the military-industrial complex has become the party of financial deregulation and tax cuts for the rich. Americans have traditionally felt a strong identification with libertarian principles, and the Republican party drew a great deal of strength from that when it was able to articulate those ideals and represent the average people who valued them. The more the rich and the religious wackoes have strengthened their hold on the party, the more alienated the average working people have become. Middle-of-the-road people who identify strongly with libertarian ideals are left with no place to go. If a third party ever does manage to emerge in this country, that's where it's going to come from. And I'll be the first in line.

*lol People can make up their own minds? I never knew they could. :p

When has the media not been used as a tool to sway the masses? Human memory is a fickle creature. I have just watched some old Donald Duck cartoons from WW2, and Disney, a big corporation, did the same thing then. Why would anyone expect that a big corporation, including a news network, would not have its own agenda?

"Fox News"...now there is an oxymoronic phrase. How about "Fox Propoganda?" When has that "news" ever shown both sides of the story? Even the BBC can be guilty of this. And some (if not a majority)  stories that are reported by Fox are not "news" at all. Its sensationalistic crap.

You can listen to whatever you want- as long as you listen with a critical ear and mind...and laugh at the idiocy of it.

Outfoxed, it explains why more people are upset about FOX then networks like CNN and MSNBC...i think watching the onion is a much better choice all around
