Exactly.

When in Italy, you add an 'a' at the end of every possible word.

In Spain,you add an 'o'...

If you need help with your arrival in London please let me know. I live very close to Central London and the Thames. London is.. well .. the only limit is your imagination. I'd also recommend Oxford, Canterbury and Hampton Court.

Stella, we hope you'll be able to show us around a bit. 'Darcy and the Dark' are helping us determine where to stay and what to do. We're having 2nd and 3rd thoughts about going four hours out of town to see the stacked rocks of Stonehenge.

Most important is that we want to see people. We're hoping to meet as many as possible and hopefully have a night where get together as a group someplace. Of course we'd like to go to a London club but our dates don't seem to correspond to any lifestyle events.

Sandra and NG: Wish we were going to Germany, but not this trip. We've been to the south and love Bavaria, but  always wanted to get to see the north. We'll be in Kiel for 13 hours on the ship, but I don't think that's enough time to do much. Thanks for the offer - maybe next trip.

If you have a day or so to spare, consider a quick trip to Paris. If you take the Thalys it's only a few hours from Amsterdam. Lots of good things to eat, and if you're feeling sadistic, take the metro during rush hour. You can push people out of the way without retribution

There's also the Sex Museum, which apparently has a decent collection of devices.

I also think immersion is best. Besides, the motivation is greater when you need something to eat or drink, a place to sleep, directions or a blow job. Also, it's more fun.

thanks cjan.

this slave is still on the fence as to if it is just a clever marketing gimmick with Rosetta Stone.  immersion, as she experienced it before, was total....this method, when you step away from the computer after a half-hour or hour lesson, you are back to English being all around you again.

again...it will be interesting to see if it will work!

It can work if you put the time into it, but doing that is a challenge. They teach in a way that makes sense, but it's at a basic level and chances are you may get bored easily. For example, you'll learn basic vocabulary (like boy, girl, etc), numbers and such, but you'll probably want to get ahead of things and try to jump right into sentences to start expressing yourself. I tried with Italian myself, and finally just perfected "non parlo italiano."

If you get comfortable going at something of a child's pace (which makes sense, since your vocabulary and sentence structure in English probably weren't mastered in a few weeks) and stick with it, then with practice Rosetta Stone can be pretty good. Not the same as hearing the language on a regular basis, but a decent starting point where you can begin to make inferences and pick out words to start to get a general understanding.

Oh, that's OK, I had a busy day yesterday myself.

We had a couple of great talks, but it looks like the cheapest he can get me into an ocean-view single is $2300 plus airfare, and I'd only save about $300 with an interior cabin. Add gratuities, a couple nights in Rotterdam and/or Copenhagen, and it's right around 5K. Not a backbreaker, but a little more than I was hoping for. If this were the only big vacation I was planning this year, I'd be fine with that, but I really had my heart set on a good, long exploration of Germany and Austria later in the summer. I'm going to have to do some thinking over the next couple of days about how much of that later trip I'm comfortable trimming in order to take this one.

The problem is, I've not yet thoroughly planned and priced the later trip, because it's far enough out that I haven't felt the need yet. Too busy with other things. This will be the impetus I need to get off my ass and do some intensive research into that later trip, so I have a better idea of what my travel budget is for the rest of the year. That's going to take a few days, and I'll probably be calling Brandon back on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. One option might be to live large on the cruise, and balance it out by doing the hostel and rail thing for at least part of my longer trip, which really has a lot of appeal in its own right as well. I bought a couple of German travel magazines yesterday, and I'm scurrying down to Barnes and Noble this afternoon to get a Fodor's guide and a couple of other guidebooks, and start hitting the  books.

Thanks again for the heads-up on this; the more I look at it, the more it really sounds like a hell of a lot of fun! I've just got some research to do before I feel comfortable making the decision.

Panda,
What you need to do is a partner! Taking on a single cabin is the expensive part of cruising.

It would be GREAT if you could join us!

Wish you a nice trip with your tour

Does that means you are going to Ludwig's Castles now?

edited: just realised that you mentioned further up that you only seem to be briefly in germany...nevertheless, I hope you enjoy your trip

Three Weeks to Europe!

We're getting a little excited!

Okay a LOT  excited~! Our local LA friends have it at 'even money' that we'll make it out of Amsterdam. There's just too many ways to get 'lost' in debauchery, decadence, and  excess; and forget that after only 4 days (WEEKEND at that) we have to board a ship and move on. beth wants to hit every 'peep show'   and sex club  in the red light  district and have a 'coffee'  at every 'coffee' house. I'm thinking of hiring someone to track us down on Sunday morning  and stuff what's left of  us  into a car.

While on the cruise we will be over-nighting it in Copenhagen on the ship. If anyone who reads this is in the neighborhood and wants to 'PARTY!'  please contact us.

On that issue-THANKS! so much for all the suggestions we've gotten so far. We hope to meet all those who expressed an interest to do so. We don't have a firm date/time set, but we will be hoping to host a night at a pub one night in London. At this point, all we know is that it will NOT be on Saturday night, June 13th; we've got tickets to see Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre.

I had very good luck with the Rosetta Stone French program, and I actually still remember most of it, though I haven't used it in 5 years (compared with 2 years of French in school, of which I remembered NONE!). It isn't the best method -- which is -still- being 'in-country' and compulsory immersion -- but it is one of the better options if you don't have that available.

Does anyone know what happened to Darcyandthedark?  They have been so helpful to us regarding the London portion of the trip. We were trying to find out if they've set up a day, time and location for us getting together with them and other CM friends and when we clicked on their profile today - it's gone and we never got their direct email addresses.

We'll have our laptop and hope to have internet access, but just in case wanted to publish something here about our little gathering.

Please contact us on the other side if you can provide any insight.

THANKS!

 LONDON GATHERING

Friday 12 June 2009
20:00

Thanks to our London friends 'Darcy & the dark' we have a date, time, and location for anyone interested in getting together with us in London.

Assuming we make it out of Amsterdam, get on the cruise ship and depart as planned you won't need 'Scotland Yard' to find us. We will be at the the historic Sherlock Holmes Pub on Friday June 12th at 20:00. (That's 8:00PM for those in the US)

We hope you can join us! The first 'pint' is on us!
