Rude, patronising and out of line - you owe Aynne an apology, but if you went to the Attwater school of debate, I wouldn't count on you doing the honourable thing...

Why won't you answer and stay on topic? Would you support Palin, or wouldn't you?

popeye1250 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 10:23:35 AM)

LOL, good fucking luck with that!
Pres. Obama would love it if she ran!
I don't like ANY party that mixes "religion" with politics. Hopefully the Democrats and Republicans will self destruct and we'll get real "change" in Washington over the next few years. God, I'm sick to death of both of those parties and their "either/or" type of thinking!
There *is* another option; shitcan BOTH of them!
Anyone who votes democrat or republican is throwing their vote in the toilet.

No, but seriously now... nobody actually believes she could ever run, right? It's impossible, in a rational world. Right? A thing of fantasy for desperate conservative men who can't come to Coulter anymore. Yes?

Since when do we have a rational world?

popeye1250 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 10:29:19 AM)

Kittin, do you really think she's "conservative?" From what I can see most Repubs are not "conservative" they just use that word as a label more or less.
I mean what's really "conservative" about Sara Palin?

FR:

I think that some of you may well be underestimating Palin.

She seems to be the kind of person who rises to the occasion, and manages to upset expectations.

I think this shows both a strong personality, and a lot of native intelligence.

"Book learnin'" you can get from books.

I've often played up my rural roots and background when it benefit me to play to the prejudices of my audience. Usually, it ended up with an alligator smile on my lips.

I suspect that Palin can play this game quite well. I also suspect that the way she was treated by many (including damn near every poster in this thread, who has displayed a great amount of condescension, and "I'm better than the red-neck rubes" attitude) was a challenge and a wakeup call to her.

Don't be surprised if she surprises you again.

After all, none of you really expected Bush to get elected ... twice. [:D]

Somehow I can't get too enthusiatic about the female version of Bush in the White House.

kittinSol -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 10:48:02 AM)

No chance of that happening: Palin is thick as two short planks. She sank it for the Reps this election: she would do it again, if she were nominated. Even the Republicans aren't that stupid that they'd nominate her again - especially not for an even higher office. She's toast. She'll end up on a chat show, or writing books, or both. So, no, it's not the last we've seen of her [8|] .

Aynne88 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 10:53:40 AM)

Thank you kittin, the problem is, he would probably make that remark to a woman that truly either did want children and could not have them or could not afford them, which could be devasting to her. To me, it is just more of the same compassionate conservatism I am used to seeing from angry men like that, and expect to see it for the next 4 (8) years. [:D]. Besides, doesn't he know, liberal feminists all hate babies and practice witchcraft? Isn't that what Falwell said?

I don't mean to hijack here rule, sorry. Back on topic, I don't think the real leaders of the GOP whomever they may be would actually "allow" her to be center stage again, after the loss of McCain which so many attribute to her. Well, and the glorious failure of Bush for almost a decade. They sabotage themselves.  I abhor the idea but I think if they put someone competent with McSame he may actually have won just because of the racism in America. Thakfully they chose someone so extreme and zealous in her views as well as a proud attacker of intellectualism and science that they blew it.

...i think some people here have ...er....misunderestimated Palin. Essentially she played to a specific constituency. If she had been running in the previous two elections it may well have worked. Problem is, that consituency is on a downcurve.
If she is capable of reinventing herself to appeal to a different constituency she might be succesful......however she may well have painted herself into a corner and linked herself inextricably to that outmoded viewpoint.

Aynne88 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 10:55:32 AM)

Revel in  your glory days Firm, besides, does a supreme court appointment count as "elected."? The other election was dubious at best too. Whatever makes you guys sleep at night.

Health Care system? We have a health care system? Wow. Here's my system, Send check for 687.00 a month to Anthem, with a 10k deduct. For 2 adults, no kids, and no pre-existing. What is this system of which you speak that is being destroyed? If it is the one where my horrific monthly cost is almost a mortgage payment, and we might actually get a better one, destroy away.

Damn, and I thought mine was bad because it went from $94 to $165 in two years, with no pre-existing conditions, also with Anthem, and a deductible half yours.

Just another scam.

These companies petition state regulatory boards for their premium increases, so what they charge in one state as opposed to another depends on whose pockets they line.

The disgrace is that there are people who actually think that health care is a right.

....technically, right now in the US, you're correct. Health care there is not a right. However, voting by women didn't use to be a right either. Things change.

And hopefully, come 2012, the religious brainswashing will have subsided, and scientific thought and progress will take its rightful place right there at the top of society once again. This will ensure a barrage will protect the country from the nutters that took advantage of its naivety eight years ago... edukashion, peeps. Edukashion.

Aynne88 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 11:04:52 AM)

Exactly. What Firm sees as being condescending isn't really. It is out and out disgust on this prevelant attitude that all things science are bad and anti-american, and being "Joe the Plumber" is better. Better than what? I don't want one of the "regular folk" running this country, do you? This dumbing down of America has got to stop.

No, the true disgrace is people who believe it shouldn't be, that economics outweigh human life.

Aynne88 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 11:08:10 AM)

Yup. And two weeks ago they went to the insurance board in the capitol and requested a 14.5% increase. Bastards.

Probably true, but the system is designed to effectively discount any third party candidates.

I live in one now. It works just fine for those who dont think its a "right".

So, will you vote for Palin if she runs :-) ?

Yes, like I reluctantly voted for McCain this time. However, if, as I expect, the bailout money has gone down the sinkhole and the economy is worse in 2010, I expect a more viable veep to step into a leadership role and for sweeping changes in Congress...for both parties.
