Firm You are completely wron in your analysis of the makeup of the Dem party. It is vast and that is why it is no longer effective. It does represent the poor, the gays, ethnic minorities, the ACLU, environmentalists, aids activists. The REP's?...Primarily white, middle, upper middle and wealthy class. All pretty much white bread.

There are countries out there, uber educated snobbish countries where they guzzle wine and speak foreign, where national healthcare integrates private medical services. It works, and nobody complains about it, except those who never benefited from such a system, that are so hellbent on ideology they let it get in the way of facts. Like you :-) .

As a member in good standing of the Anti-Palin's I would whole heartedly hope for her to RUN baby RUN!.... Could there be anything more humorous than her trying to run against first Mit Romney (wouldn't vote for him but, he is quite bright and will have a well financed campaign)and then against what will more than likely be an incumbent Democrat who(like it or not he really can) can run an organized, well financed campaign and is perhaps the most eloquent President since JFK. Sarah would be an absolute train wreck!...She would have an appeal to those that see the Republican party as the vessel for anti-abortion, right wing, bible thumping,God fearing Christians but, in a strictly political analysis of ability to be elected....Romney will hand her, her rather nice rear end. If she could get past Romney, and she won't, she couldn't stand on her own as a candidate for the Presidency no matter how much she prepared. Too easy of a target for those who will be unforgiving in their criticism and have the ability to cast way too much doubt on her intelligence and abilities. It would be fun to watch!...

I would love for the republicans to nominate Sarah Palin. Another fun election cycle, excitment on SNL, a really good reason to hate hair in buns (as if I needed another) and the latest in eye wear trends, a picture to frame in cross hairs (kinda like her and wolves yanno). AND, a ressurection of the "Palin in the Whitehouse" website!! And most of all, really prove once and for all, how antiquated and out of touch the party really is.

Firm Then why is it so appealing to an owner of a construction company, non-union, with a working owner that has guns, is all about capitalism and not particularly pro-union? Don't you hate it when we don't fit the sweeping generalizations that you want to force us into? That is bullshit. Democrats are the party of diversity and the working people, not the elites and worse, the uneducated hillbillies that actually think that people like Bush and Cheney give a rats ass about them and only pander to them to get the votes, and because the followers buy into the "regular guy" nonsense and hate anything not white, straight and christian, the submit, and let Hannity and Rush tell 'em how to think. Bush and Co. are so insider elite it is sickening. What is uber educated by the way? Able to obtain a degree without attending 5 sub par schools like Palin did? Being able to name the publications that I turn to for viable news? Not wanting to ban books? Speaking in coherent sentences? Then yes, all for it. I’m not angry in the slightest. In fact I’m in a rather lighthearted mood at the moment. What? Was it the crack about your head exploding? A sense of self depreciating humor would help with that. C’mon! Admit it! If Palin were to win the Presidency in 2012 you’d have an aneurism! Hmmm… maybe that’s why you think health care should be a right… you’re hedging your bets for 2012! At least you’re now saying that healthcare ought to be a right. It is easy to say that “children should not die,” etc., but, as others have pointed out, you run into trouble with a little thing called reality. In my opinion, most people who go about proclaiming that health care (or “decent” housing, or a job, etc.) is a right do so not because they actually care about everybody but only because they want to stroke their own ego and feel morally superior to those of us who recognize reality for what it is. Recognizing reality does not make a person evil. It does not mean that such a person wants to see people die needlessly from lack of health care (or from freezing to death on the street because they don’t have a home) and to presume such about others based only upon their opinion is nothing more than bigotry. Nor does it mean that such people don’t believe that things could be better or that new ideas should not be tried. What it means is that we reject pat, meaningless slogans in favor of critical reasoned analysis and debate. And with that in mind… You can proclaim that national health care systems work but that doesn’t change the fact (the reality) that I often see Canadian license plates in the doctor’s office parking lots around here (here being only a twenty minute drive to the border).

As for the Canadian plates in the parking lot, those are merely the hypoctites. They are people who enjoy universal access to basic services, but come here for the extreme procedures only because they can, and becuase the uninsured in this country "fund" this 3-day access for them. A few hypocrites who cross the border for selfish reasons is not an indicatior of systemic failure. Its an indicator of people who enjoyed their benefits, but who skipped out when their turn to wait came.
