you apparently believe that health care is a "right", and not a service that you work for and pay for. I don't.

It is funny that when I look around, this country is the only one who believes healthcare is a service that you work and pay for.  If we are so correct in our current approach, how come we stand alone?  Perhaps you should be asking why the wealthiest people in the world fly here for medical care, why the parking lots of hospitals and clinics in border cities are filled with Canadian license plates, and why a hip replacement in GB can take more than a year to get.  In case you don't realize it, except where banned by law, the socialist model of health care is being supplemented by entrepenurial docs who eschew government payments.

quote:

And when you're exercising your right to wait 6 months for surgery or sit 4 hours for a check-up you can think about how to fix a system that really has problems.

These foreign countries accept the reality of a 6 month wait for hip replacement surgery, a far cry from waiting times here, only because their system places a greater priority on covering more of the younger population who is able to work and produce a return on the public investment for their economy. They accept the reality that hip replacement surgery for a 75 year old isnt available on 3 days notice, as spending money in that scenario isn't the best investment for their dollars. Cool, at least you are honest and realize that ultimately Obama's plans will lead to health care rationing, withholding drugs from those who arent deemed worthy of them, and letting people die if some government beaurocrat thinks their care will be too costly. If more people accepted that reality they wouldnt be so enthusiastic about "free" medical care.

Those other countries cover basic services for everyone, getting a greater return on their dollars, while we deny the young and only invest in the old, ultimately planting our public dollars into the ground along with the elderly body.

I am at a loss as to how anybody can think our approach is better. Pointing to the 'merits' of 3-day access to costly, extreme procedures for the elderly doesn't buy us out of that doghouse.

Exactly. What Firm sees as being condescending isn't really. It is out and out disgust on this prevelant attitude that all things science are bad and anti-american, and being "Joe the Plumber" is better. Better than what? I don't want one of the "regular folk" running this country, do you? This dumbing down of America has got to stop.

Ahh, but see Aynne ... the Democratic Party ... once upon a time was about "the little guy", the "Joe the Plumbers" and "the working mom" (like Palin).

Now, it's about the uber-educated snob, and the government worker, and the union boss ...

Not an altogether good change, I don't think.

Firm

You are completely wrong in your analysis of the makeup of the Dem party. It is vast and that is why it is no longer effective. It does represent the poor, the gays, ethnic minorities, the ACLU, environmentalists, aids activists.

The REP's?...Primarily white, middle, upper middle and wealthy class. All pretty much white bread.

I think you have your analysis incorrect this time Domi.

I said "it's about" ... not "it is made up of".

Read my shit closely, my friend. [:D]

I can only offer my sorrow that you truly seem to believe that.

And I can only marvel at those who are so ignorant of the history of man/biology/evolution that they don't recognize that it is a fact, not a "belief".

~Palin'2012'~!

If there is a god and she answers prayers,Palin will be the next GOP presidential candidate...

Please god, make it so ............

Gonna be a hell of a primary.[:D]

Merc recognising current reality is one thing, accepting that this must allways be so quite another. It would seem you are fine with the whole children must die thing.....as long as America doesn't go down any "Socialized Medicine" path.
Are you actually comfortable with a stance that basically says the worlds richest economy can not afford to see to the health of all its citizens in a costly and efficient manner?

Horrifying.

“You're no good to us gramps so fuck you!”

Don't be too horrified.  Gramps already said "fuck you" to the upcoming generations, when he lived beyond his means on his grandkids credit cards.  The jobs for Gramp's grandkids was sold overseas so Gramps could earn 20% on his retirement portfolio in a time when our economic engine simply cannot support such returns.  Medicare for only 65 and older is simply more of that selfishness

Yes she did, because you have a lot of horny old men in the Republican Party who haven't been able to get their dicks hard since 1970.

If I might add, they don't grade these things on the size of the crowds.....they count votes. And her ticket lost.

Then why is it so appealing to an owner of a construction company, non-union, with a working owner that has guns, is all about capitalism and  not particularly pro-union? Don't you hate it when we don't fit the sweeping generalizations that you want to force us into?

There is simply no accounting for taste, Aynne. [:D]

If I were a marxist theologist, I might mumble something about a class member who was confused or deceived about their true interests ....

But, I'm not so much a marxists, or a Republican, as I am a conservative (read classic liberal), so I won't mumble about bullshit.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Aynne88

That is bullshit. Democrats are the party of diversity and the working people, not the elites and worse, the uneducated hillbillies that actually think that people like Bush and Cheney give a rats ass about them and only pander to them to get the votes, and because the followers buy into the "regular guy" nonsense and hate anything not white, straight and christian, the submit, and let Hannity and Rush tell 'em how to think. Bush and Co. are so insider elite it is sickening.

Why depersonalize your political opponents, and trash their voters as subhuman, stupid, and unworthy of their humanity? That is the bullshit.

How awesome is it that conservatives lie to themselves so well?....

Republicans didn`t run the economy into the ground...

The GOP is a diverse party...

george bush was a good president

and

Sarah will make a good presidential candidate....

(our secrete plan is working out well) [:D]

slvemike4u -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 1:37:45 PM)

Owner,I understand your just having a well deserved laugh at this nonsense....but wouldn't it be better for America if the fundies and neo-cons actually lost control of the Republican Party. After all if your going to have a two party system, the whole thing works better if they are actually viable parties.

Owner59 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 1:47:08 PM)

Truth be told, yes.A two party system would best represent the widest swaths of America.

But the neo-cons make three(parties) and three`s a crowd.....

You`re right.I am have fun...

slvemike4u -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 1:51:55 PM)

There you go Owner, they can start their own fringe party.Make alot of pronouncements about how America is going to hell in a handbasket and such.....and basically do no harm, works for me.

Rude, patronising and out of line - you owe Aynne an apology, but if you went to the Attwater school of debate, I wouldn't count on you doing the honourable thing...

Why won't you answer and stay on topic? Would you support Palin, or wouldn't you?

I see nothing to apologize for, and I answered the second question already.

FR:

I think that some of you may well be underestimating Palin.

She seems to be the kind of person who rises to the occasion, and manages to upset expectations.

I think this shows both a strong personality, and a lot of native intelligence.

"Book learnin'" you can get from books.

I've often played up my rural roots and background when it benefit me to play to the prejudices of my audience. Usually, it ended up with an alligator smile on my lips.

I suspect that Palin can play this game quite well. I also suspect that the way she was treated by many (including damn near every poster in this thread, who has displayed a great amount of condescension, and "I'm better than the red-neck rubes" attitude) was a challenge and a wakeup call to her.

Don't be surprised if she surprises you again.

After all, none of you really expected Bush to get elected ... twice. [:D]

Firm

Whatever talents and abilities she does have won't be counted. The Begala/Carville/Stephanopolous wrecking team will ensure that only personal issues are empahsized. She has been quite effectively "Dan Quayled" by their tactics.

The disgrace is that there are people who actually think that health care is a right.

....technically, right now in the US, you're correct. Health care there is not a right. However, voting by women didn't use to be a right either. Things change.

It depends on what you mean by a "right". I am (and assume that those who maintain that health care is a right are) referring to it in terms of something intrinsic and external to a given societies rules. Voting by women, men, or chimpanzees is only a "right" because a given society says it is or isnt so.  Health care may well become a societal right, that doesnt make it a "universal" right.

Aynne88 -> RE: McCain supports Palin for president ... sort of (3/30/2009 2:10:45 PM)

Of course you don't . I don't get into the grit with you boys anyway and expect apologies after the fact. if you think that comment about paying as much attention to buying insurance as I do for clothes shopping and that I better not have children because I can't afford them anyway as not insulting, thank you in advance for letting me know exactly the type of.....character you posess.  I can take as good as I get, but even for here that was unneccesarily rude and if you knew me you'd see the asinine nature of that comment as well. I doubt we run in the same circles.

Such an odd statement, how do you equate my insurance premium with the ability to afford procreating? Kind of an odd way to assess something. Perhaps that kind of thinking is why the Republicans were so thorougly trounced last election?  Their inablity to read their constituency and people in general?

Actually just the fact that you would vote for Palin tells me all I need to know. Really.
