There are several reasons for me; Admittedly I have since a young child shown a preference for wearing black, I found that black like vertical strips makes a larger person look slimmer. My suits are mostly sombre black but I do have a penchant for charcoal pin striped (subtle pin striping) suits for business, as well as for summer, a white suit with a white planters panama hat. perhaps not surprising, my medieval costumes and armour is usually Green with red highlights. Obviously most of my combat gear has always been matt black (light absorbent) making me near invisible (darkness is always my friend). BDSM wise my preference is a black suit with the knee length suit coat having the high collar, double breasted black and silver vest over a black shirt with black lace cuffs and either a white or blood red cravat and diamond pin. (I'm intending to have a suit of leather duplicating this) High calf black riding boots or full English riding boots (black) are worn with trousers tucked in or on some occasions trousers over boots. This is topped with a black felt fedora and silver topped (dragon shaped) walking (sword) stick.

I only wear Black when my Pink Shirts and Baby Blue Halter tops are due for Laundry. That usually coincides with Munch Day.

Seriously, My Excuse is the same as it has been since the 5th grade when I was finally allowed to pick my own clothes. I am Color Blind in all three spectrums, No this does not mean I see Black in white it means that most colors that are not Primary and Extrememly Vivid look Bland to me, also most of the time I cannot tell the difference between certain colors, I have many "Black" shirts I find out Later as Navy. I have many "Red" shirts I find out later are Brown and I have lots of shirts I think are "Blue" and are Random Varying degrees of Purple and Blue.

That being said who the hell wants the Hastle? Grey, Black, White, and Shades there of always match and always look good as far as I am concerned.

As to the man who thinks all women fit into this tight little hole he created in his head. I can say this. If you EVER want to be happy, you need to step into reality. There are not Heirarchial rules for when women wear certain shoes, and I doubt ANY woman has ever thought about how they will show they are dominant to YOU before putting on thier shoes.

Seriously Mate, the world is not that Small and you are not that Desirable in the first place. This Fantasy you have in your head is sadly when perpitrates the bad image of the BDSM world. Sure there are more but it is your belief that all women even those who are simply confident are man hating Dommes, you really ought to let that shit go and talk to a Therapist about your relationship with your Mother. From what I have read on this thread it might get expensive ask about a sliding scale.

As for the Color Black. It looks Clean, I know many doms wear it because of that fact alone. It is Elegant and behavior modification appropriate, people tend to pay attention to the person all in black. The Habit, A Fathers Robes, Most Public Speakers, Black brings about it a Professional level that brings most people to attempt sophistocation.

But in the end it's all for show and because it makes me look good.... but then again so do the Pink Shirts and Baby Blue Halter Tops.

How did lobodom manage to steal this thread?

FR:
To the OP, to me black is sexy. I always wore black when I was a kid and god help you if you gave me any other color! (I know..I'm a sub..but)..black is one of those colors that puts emphasis on class...elegance..etc..and to me it's..just..sexy so gawd I hope dominants won't start refusing wearing black clothes now

oh and..it doesn't attract way too much attention and is usually appropriate in whatever situation you might be in..except on the beach perhaps.

Silly question really as I like black but more like Johnny Cash hmmm wonder what he was into?

Think anyone into BDSM dressed in a tight Pink outfit with a Hello Kitty sign on the front...just might not be taken seriously?

In my area, all the Dom/mes are Orthodox Jews and Quakers.  They always dress in black.

I keep seeing at meetings and in the pics on the site black t-shirts and other attire for dom(mes). Does it have some special significance or something?

*laughs* It's how we know we're all dark and dangerous and edgy and all. Even I did it for my photo on this site although I never wear black on black in real life. Thought of another way, it's how all the rebels fit in.

To turn the question round on the OP for a second: when going on first impressions, or looks alone, could you take a Dom/me seriously in sweatpants and grubby t-shirt?

I absolutely could!  :)

Well, I mean, I could wear my pouty Tinkerbell t-shirt that's got plenty of neon color in the lines of the image and still be in a take-charge frame of mind but there's something that strikes me as more commanding about the black (I think the starkness of the singular shade as well as the weightyness of the amalgamation of all color is not to be ignored.  Plus, black is suggestive of the night, of a time of heightened senses because our eyes are at a disadvantage, perhaps of the subconscious, etc.).

all black makes getting dressed a no-brainer (hey...screw the mix and match shit in the morning)...it makes you look put together irregardless of the fact that you had a morning quickie and had 30.5 seconds to get dressed and out the door. Your shoes and purse always match...and you leave a nice black mark when you kick some whiny prick in the ass with your black boots.

not only that...tight black jeans, black stilleto boots and a black leather blazer with a black lace cami just peeking out is a good look for most of us...

I love that black makes me feel strong and sexy.  At nearly 6' tall for a woman, it also makes me a "presence."  I also wear black because people always told me that redheads couldn't wear black for the first 30+ years of my life.  I do it, and I think I look damn good, tyvm.

Back when the LA social would be 200 people...

Master and his group of friends decided they were tired of seeing everyone in black. (We used to joke, "I'll be at the social. I'll be the one in black.") The guys started showing up in Hawaiian shirts.

Hey, I wear Hawaiian shirts. I usually have a colorfull bandana in my hip pocket, too. (don't wanna hear any hanky code crap). Of course I also wear a lot of black, always have. Just seems to go together with the whole Domly aura.

I tend to wear a lot of black because A: it's slimming, and B: basic black goes with everything, and C: it compliments and contrasts my eyes, hair and pale skin colour nicely.

Not even close.  Footwear is the invention of the devil himself!  I only put shoes and socks on if I HAVE to go somewhere that requires them, and only then under extreme duress.
