Common sense.

Sheesh just tell them you dont cam, you dont IM and they can not have your personal email. They have to get to know you here first. Then ask them if they would be willing to give you there full name for a background check.

if one succeeds in weeding out fakes one should not be surprised to be regarded by them as a hoe

Whatever happened to just talking with people?

As you get to know them, either things will ring true or they won't...

it's usually fairly obvious when they are scammers as they profess their immediate and undying love for you in their contact cmail.  when you check their profile, their height/weight proportions are almost physically impossible, etc....

Some of us are careful about sending out pics, and particularly those of an erotic nature.  I don't want nudes of me in the hands or hard drives of people I don't trust or know.

When they do that I say, "you are either a scammer and you will never get a check or my bank account or you need SERIOUS pychological help".

I don't have a camera on my phone, no web cam, not even a digital camera.  No intention of getting one and tend to tell people who get pushing looking for me to cam, or take pictures with my cell to bite me.  I'm more than willing to meet someone locally for coffee and if they don't like what they see, then they can go on their merry way.

Just thought I'd add a little to this..
over the years people have stolen pics of mine & claimed them as thier own but at the end of the day I would just email the site admin with a pic of me holding up a card with whatever they wanted written on it, it worked everytime. on myspace people msg me all the time showing me fake profiles with my pics on them, half the time the ones who are doing the stealing dont even know I'm trans - so they cant be that smart to start with.

speaking of pics etc, how do I change my default profile pic? Its been driving me crazy for the last few days.

Generally I nly talk to people that I meet here on the forums, provided they dont use teh slashy thing :P

I certainly dont look like a model, so I cannot expect anyone else to

When I met my girl, we just talked, on a variety of subjects... I didnt ask for any proof that she was a real person, though the phone calling would have been hard to fake

I guess what I am saying here is, isnt this soley based on what your definition of "fake" is?

Sorry Hurkan, you're talking to people who some have little experience with the internet or are just fucking with you to get a rise.

Most fail to realize that they are now in the minority if they don't have an easy means of taking a picture and that the personalized note is rather hard to fake - especially within a time limit. Naturally it isn't perfect. However, as stated, when a repertoire is being built and a connection is evident it is hardly anything to ask for and can save either party the meeting disappointment and schism in trust that results which you have described - or even that it wouldn't have gotten to such a point had they been upfront in the first place.

I think some have been tripping over your usage of fake (or didn't read/understand the other posts?) and it's relative ambiguity. Perhaps faking?

Has anyone tried doing a comparison between the time stamp on the letter in your Collar Me mail box and the time stamp on the notification that you received in your private mail box that you have a CM letter?

WEll as far as weeding out fakes go i don't think it works, because even fakes can proove who they are, that's not what alone makes them a fake. But as an idea for asserting authority over them and telling them what to do and they do it. Yes.

Again for A/any who don't know I am fairly new to online so if this is common procedure please ignore.

I was able to successfully confirm someone as real (appearance-wise) by requesting a special picture.

Most people have cell phones with a camera or a digital camera fairly handy I assume. I simply asked if she had her camera available to take a face only picture and send it to me. She agreed. However, I gave her a 5 minute time limit to also write a message (I determined on the spot) on a piece of paper and have the message appear clearly within the frame. Confirmed.

This idea is only a start. I know there is more to weed out for besides appearance so does A/anyone have any other ideas/tips for weeding out fakes?

Online certainly has it's own special "challenges".

*Yawn* why bother...
heck I'm not a fake but gee that'd be way too dommely domm domm for me I'm not there to fulfill your tasks so yup..if you asked me you'd end up having to categorize me as a fake.
I also think it's just...I don't know maybe I feel above the "write a piece of paper n show me urself holding that paper". I want people to accept me for who I am and I'm not interested in going great lengths to proof myself, I believe I have other ways to do so and people will probably get these "proofs" as the conversation goes along, definitely not because they ask for them. I do it on my premises..not somebody elses.

Could you elaborate on ascertaining, Musicmystery?

I can see no other way to ascertain truthful "physical representation" without meeting in person or webcam.

What amazes me most is that apparently you're serious.

OK. I'm procrastinating anyway.

How do you tell in real life if people are fakes? It's not that different.

A girl has little/no profile. Her yahoo is in her profile. She's looking for every combination of people possible (Dom men, Sub men, Women, etc.). She's ready right now to come be your slave, anything you want to do to her. She has trouble with cmail, so she needs your yahoo address so you can chat. She's Native American, but she's blond with blue eyes and lives in England. Her grandmother is dying, so she has to go to Germany for six months to take care of things first. She's from Africa. She just happened across your profile and you look interesting and she wants to come be your slave. Think, man, think.

Can you recognize patterns? NameNameNumber is a giveaway. So's the "soft focus" single photo, usually in front of a lush plant or in a car. Or the unusually sharp-looking perky pose. Is it Friday? They're out in droves then.

Not to mention that your approach would turn off and/or raise red flags for any sensible real girl, so the good news is, you're going to weed out quickly all the real ones and be able to focus on your study of the fakes. Mr. Romance you ain't.

Talk to people--and not just about BDSM. Read their forum posts. Get to know them. Yup, that isn't gonna work out necessarily. But that's what meeting people is like. And if YOU are sincere and worth knowing, and if you're paying attention, you'll make good friends along the way. If not--well then you're one of the men the girls can immediately recognize without investing their time.

Drop the Dragnet routine. Just talk to interesting people and let them get to know you. Then get together in real time for coffee. Or are you just interested in how they look (not sure from your question)--if so, that's a turn-off even for the models.

Good luck.

Saluting sounds reasonable enough to me, and I fail to see where this is either a complex hassle or odd request in a world full of picture phones, broadband internet connections and armies of hot dominant lesbians eager to share their yahoo emails.

Of course, a photo verifies only the visual. Conversation and reciprocal transparency is the real "killer app".

this made me laugh
I sincerely hope that was the intent
a phone call will ascertain that they arent scamming you, and dont give them money or bank statements
As far as the other definition of "fake" that they are not who they are representing themselves to be, but arent just out for your cash a few messages/phonecalls will suffice, if someone is honestly interested in you, then a fake picture will hurt them, so they wont send them to you.

as a funny side note, many government employees are not permitted to have cell phones with cameras on them, And when gov employees are issued cell phones, many of them have to be custom built not to have the camera in them, of course at greater expense then ones with the cameras.
