Satisfy our own needs in a way that also satisfies those of the sub.

Hopefully and relationally relate with another who acknowledges said dominance and each is able to utilize his and/or her strengths in synergy to the other to optimize functionality, intimacy, and satisfaction in the relationship.

points for using synergy in a sentence not related to business.

Hopefully, they do what it says on the tin. I've never seen two tins with the same label and small print.

Control and shape our world. If we're far-sighted, we'll do so in a way that provides benefit beyond our immediate sphere of influence. If we're short-sighted, we'll run our world into the ground. We rise to the top of the heap, strive to achieve the extraordinary, and claim, at every reasonable opportunity, our right to be self-directing. Sometimes, if we find one or more individuals whom we find to have potential in our world, we extend our self-direction over them, shaping them into cherished and valued tools, which enables them to reach their potential, and gives us the benefit of that potential to use to control our Universe.

Greetings to my favorite Master Bear!

I can only speak to what my own dominant does: compels, inspires, coerces, manipulates, dictates, authenticates, recognizes, appreciates, evaluates, elevates, pokes, prods, pushes, instigates, investigates, commands, demands and expects me to submit to his will.

Plus, he's funny as hell and makes me laugh or none of the above would matter a whit. [:D]

A Dominant is responsible for those around him/her.  He or she must be big enough to be concerned with what is best for him/herself and any subs responsible for.

I read, listen to music, watch movies, write for work, tend to my fruit trees and vineyards, cut grass, go running with the dog...

...stuff like that.

Rule

And when I say that I mean in the purest form.
Any one with questions about what this means on this I would refer to writings on the social contract. Take a look at Machiavelli, Hobbes, Clausewitz, Rawls et. al...

She is mine, to do with as I may, but one can only reign with the consent of the governed.

And that takes a seriously competent man.  It's not all fun and games being the boss.  Of that, I am sure.

Iron Bear, You have no idea how interested I am in this thread.

I wish the answers given up till now were more detailed but I guess you can't always get what you want.

I have spent a lot of time on this question. I often wondered what a submissive actually gets out of the relationship and how it is that they get that. The following is about a decade of wondering.

I believe that dominants fill a function in that we complete a circut for many submissives. I believe that we take away part of a pattern that puzzles many submissives and replace it with a system of order.

There are people in this world that simply choices and dread them, The choice of what to wear and when to make dinner and what to make for that dinner. The choice of what room to start cleaning in a house, how to start and when, then there are those who simply wish to exist and need direction to keep from drifting out to sea.

I believe that a domiant fills that void of direction and order. We take on the responsibility of making those choices that don't really matter but take up a great amount of time in doing so.

I believe that a submissive is at times afraid to make these choices for fear that something better might show up and living an existance of mediocrity always feeling the might of made the wrong choice and not trusting the choices they make.

As a Dominant I am willing to make those choices and take responsibility for any mistake that might come from my choices. I take away the mystery of what would have been a better choice because I take responsibily for that choice. I decide what we have, how she cleans, when she goes and where she goes for those times when she finds it difficult for her to do so herself.

There is a Simplicity in it at times in which one could easily say that they don't do anything, they simply do as they please and the submissive follows and in those things MANY decisions are made without an active decision being made.

I think Dominants DO the parts that a submissive finds it difficult to do, they suppy direction when the cordinates get lost and they supply support when the submissive find a destination to go.

To obey all the rules in the Dominant Hand Book! and like lusciouslips said as well us Doms try to do what the subs want us to do,and at times they let us have our fun too!
