I just saw the clip on a Good Morning, America clip from Yahoo News. The paramedic tried to explain to the cop what was going on and also explained why their lights and sirens weren't on. The patient was in there with chest pain, possible heart attack in other words and hooked up to an EKG machine, I.V. and oxygen while strapped onto a gurney. The cop refused to listen and threatened to take the paramedic in. To use lights and sirens while with a patient in possible cardiac stress is not a good thing as studies have shown that they increase the stress levels in both patients and paramedics. When I was running with the local crew in Idaho, it was common to not use lights and sirens in that case because of the increased risk to the patient. Only if they were in severe, life-threatening distress did we go Code 3. According to what I saw, it looked like sour grapes on the part of the cop. (Sorry, Sci - I know not all cops are like that!) Besides, I have first hand experience on having a cop pull us over while enroute to the hospital with a patient. We were going Code 3 and the asshole tried to stop us for speeding......
