You've never seen a slur on her that wasn't true, huh?

Here on CM, which is what we're discussing? Off the top of my head, none that I can recall.

Gee,

Without even searching:

1. She withdrew state funding for rape kits (or, alternatively, decided to charge the raped women for the kits).
2. She gave a list of books to a librarian she wanted taken off the shelves,
3. She wants only abstinence education, and no other sex education.
4. She was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party
5. She believes that the Iraq war was directed by God.

Hell, there's plenty more.

Firm

edited to add:

My personal favorite:

6. She said that dinosaurs walked the earth 4k years ago.

Nice try, but all of those were true. Perhaps she only "suggested" the books be taken off the shelves, but she did suggest it, albeit not 'demanded' it.

slvemike4u -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/6/2009 2:20:23 PM)

As I recall she inquired into what process there was in place for removing "certain" books.....when told there was none, that books were not removed from the shelves.....she switched gears and sought to find out the process by which she could remove the librarian.....It would be so comical if it weren't for the deluded who actually see substance here.

tazzygirl -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/6/2009 2:20:35 PM)

Both of you are right... and wrong.. about the ban list. No list was created. Palin asked the Librarian what was the procedure for banning. From there, its not clear what exactly happened, except the librarian was temporarily fired... then rehired after the firing became public. It was stated the librarian was not cooperative after Palin became mayor.

State funding. no, it was never withdrawn.. it was never offered... patients were either charged themselves, or, their insurances were. doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand that if you dont have insurance, and you dont have money, you wont have the test done. and, frankly, who wants the insurance company to know you were raped? the cancel these days if you sneeze too hard.

None of these are true.

All are political motivated BS stories.

LOL Loki!

i dont mind being proved wrong... or right. i happen to like knowing the facts either way. and im sure both sides have enough blame to share for reporting facts out of sync.

tazzygirl -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/6/2009 2:32:43 PM)

Firm

the complaints about rape kits was not a falacy. She approved the budget, therefore, regardless of her denials, many insist she approved of the policy by writing off on the budget year after year. linked to this was things i didnt know, and im still researching... like the sale of a plane... and the redecorating job she did not once, but 8 times, while in office.

LaTigresse -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/6/2009 2:44:54 PM)

Yanno, here's the thing as I see it at this point in time.

ANYone that would be supportive of Sarah Palin, that thinks she has ANY value in public office, has got to be so delusional and unaware of reality I cannot even comprehend being able to have a rational, intelligent conversation about the subject with them.

If it isn't glaringly obvious to that person she is a total mess, they are just looking at life through such fucked up filters there is no way I could stand talking to them about it.

Perhaps they, as you wrote them, are untrue. But they are all grounded in fact, you just have to look for the truth in each one.

And as for her "accomplishments", these wondrous achievements that so many of us don't seem to have noticed - what, exactly, would they be? What are her substantive accomplishments?

She had an at-risk baby after her water broke, and after flying many hours, including two changes of plane, plus an hour car ride, contrary to specific airline regulations regarding passengers in labor, and contrary to what several expert gynecologists said was safe medical practice, because her family doctor (not an OB-GYN) allegedly told her it was okay to fly.  All this despite excellent medical facilities where her water allegedly broke (Dallas) or at the cities where she changed planes--each one better-equipped to handle at-risk births.

Or at least that's the official story, anyway...

What an accomplishment! [8|]

Might help if you ... well ... you know ... actually read them. Especially with a critical eye versus confirmation bias.

Here's a couple of more links:

Copy of a contemporaneous story from the local paper about the library incident, before she became a national figure:

Palin: Library censorship inquiries 'Rhetorical'

If you read it, you'll see that the entire issue became public because Palin herself used it as an example on how she was learning about the departments of the city, and the people in charge of them.

She never asked to ban anything. She asked how the librarian would react to someone attempting to get books banned, and how the librarian would react if then protesters showed up to picket the library.

Sounds to me more like she wanted to understand how she (and the librarian) would have to handle such a situation, if it were to arise, and not that she had a list of books she wanted to get out of the library.

But it's clear from all parties involved: No request to ban books. No list of books.

Of course, if you are committed to believing that Palin is the hillybilly anti-christ ....

An article on it from The Library Journal:

What Do We Know About Sarah Palin and the Wasilla Library? Not Much

quote:

Some commentators, like Atlantic blogger Andrew Sullivan, have made a big deal of Palin's 1997 move to fire Wasilla Public Library director Mary Ellen Emmons, who supported Palin's rival during the mayoral campaign .... As the Anchorage Daily News reported 2/1/97, Palin gave letters of dismissal to both Emmons and the police chief, but relented when Emmons assured her she supported efforts to merge library and museum operations.

Is it legitimate for a mayor to fire a library director who supported her opponent? Well, libraries, in the ideal world, should not be partisan institutions and library directors should be judged on the way they run the library. Also, librarians do not take a vow of political neutrality as individuals. But we do know that small-town politics can get ugly.

Politically motivated BS stories, even if we agree they were BS, are still not the slurs you originally claimed.

They are just politics.

Might help you as well.

You can spin it however you like, the facts have long since come out. Let's ask the 'temporarily fired' librarian what her thoughts are, shall we?

tazzygirl -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/6/2009 3:15:13 PM)

The librarian was quite clear in the link offered by Firm... she was challenging the librarian on issues of censorship, repeatedly asking the librarian what would she do if it came up... was an interesting read, and actually cleared up those muddy waters for me. The librarian felt she was being... pushed... to go against what she knew was right.

Thnk you Firm, for showing me that link. it certainly proves that Palin cannot be trusted.

Actually state funds were not available while she was mayor of Wasila and she removed the line item in the city budget that paid for rape kits.

tazzygirl -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/6/2009 3:34:40 PM)

With the 50,000 she used to redecorate the mayor's office.. and the money she took for the bridge to no where.. and never built.. she could have added that back into the budget to pay for those rape kits they swear they never needed because they had only one.. on record.

Yeah, sure. Go ahead and ask her.

She was fired because she opposed Palin on the consolidation of the library and the museum, and was generally disruptive and non-supportive of the Mayor's office, not because she was asked to ban books and declined.
