I don't know about the Democrats but it's sure become a testament to the confusion of once-united Republicans:

Palin resignation splits GOP

Many establishment GOP operatives and political commentators of various stripes were withering, both about the decision and the way she announced it — in a jittery, hyperkinetic news conference that rambled between self-congratulation and bitter accusations at the foes she says are eager to destroy her.

The performance, by these lights, adds credence to the claims of some associates that Palin — burned by the intense scrutiny on her and the crossfire that swirls around her — is so fed up that she's ready to get out of elective politics. Even if it's only the small stage of Alaska politics she hopes to escape, skeptics say Friday’s events also diminished and perhaps even demolished what was left of her viability as a 2012 presidential candidate.

But her defenders believed an unorthodox move, even if risky, has a clear logic and may only further increase her standing with conservatives who don’t care what establishment figures in or out of the GOP think. Leaving the governor’s office at the end of this month leaves her free to travel the country, command large speaking fees, and begin the process of rallying her devotees without pesky home-state opponents criticizing every move.

Can't see it all, huh?  Maybe it is like one of those Salvador Dali works where you have to step back and turn your head a little?  Keep looking.  It's there.

You are willing to place the blame for every word on one side, including what people in a crowd called out, on McCain personally, but deny that the filth that was pointed at Sarah by some rabid Dems will reflect badly on the Party at large...

OK, I see your point a little better. Not in the sense that I agree with it, but at least to the extent that I see what you're trying to say. Maybe if you could link me to one of these examples of democrats calling her daughters sluts, or her son a "tard", I'd at least know what it is we're discussing. And we could go from there.

There is still a useful function for Sarah in the restoration of conservative governance.  She can stand as a testament to the true character of the Democrat Party as it exists today....

explain, because i dont see it either

This is part of Heretic's ongoing claims that the Democratic party says and does worse things than the GOP does to them. I've called him on it on previous occasions and never gotten a useful response.

That's one way to put it, Ken.  Another is that I just get the same slightly doofy, blank response we are seeing here.  I'd love to toss you a link to the Daily Kos opening shot, but last I checked, they made that disappear.

If you have come through the threads where we have dicussed this without once being taken aback by the sexism and ugly personal attacks, the namecalling, without ever seeing the where the bar of discourse had been set, you aren't going to see anything else I pull up a link to.   If you think "Caribou Barbie" is all ok, we aren't gonna find common ground here.

It's a matter of perspective.  Mine is different than yours.  Shall we argue until Herself steps in, over whose view is through the belly-button?

Happy 4th of July, Ken.  Compai.

"Caribou Barbie" is not an attack on her children. If you think its worse than what was done to John Kerry, Don Siegelman, Max Cleland and Barack Obama then you've got blinders on.

Well, Panda, I'm sure it won't spoil your 4th of July when I tell you that it isn't going to interfere with the timing of mine in the slightest.  If you need me go dredging though blogs for literal examples of words being used, that I used figuratively, it ain't gonna happen today.

      Happy 4th!

So your big examples come from.......blogs? As in like pundits and people who are NOT connected in anyway to the actual politicians we're discussing?

Sounds like you shot yourself in the foot with that slip of the tongue. You're talking bloggers and we're talking Palin...the RUNNING mate of McCain, thus, McCain is ultimately responsible for anything she says. The Obama campaign is no more responsible for what's said in a blog than they are for what I say here.

That's what the rest of us were wondering.

philosophy -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/4/2009 4:04:33 PM)

Okies TH, if we're going to hold the democratic party responsible for what those who say they belong to it mean, then we have to do the same with the GOP.
If we do that, and hold both parties responsible for what their lunatic fringe say then neither side comes up smelling of roses.
Certainly neither side comes up as being more responsible than the other.

The thing about Palin is that she comes across as being horribly hypocritical. Not to mention her apparent social policy is both malicious and highly ineffective.

There is a mouthful right there.  She is clueless about what the broader implications of her "policies" might be.  She is a pretty moron.

cuckyboy4U -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/4/2009 4:41:29 PM)

not many people are gonna vote for a "quitter". she's done.

man, this is quite a shocker. I wonder if they have something "big" on her.
this could get interesting.

The Daily KOS and other such sites are a far cry from the Democratic party calling her a slut of her child a "tard"

Nope.  If they did, they would release the info.  Withholding evidence is a crime.

Plus, if she was afraid of this, no way would she resign.  She'd stay and use the levers of power to impede the investigation.

She likes the limelight.  She would never resign unless she had something to go to which she considered better.  I suspect she'll hit the lecture circuit and build a war chest for 2012.

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Palin to resign as governor (7/4/2009 9:37:32 PM)

hey, Heretic and Loki?

are you willing to demand an Independent MMPI on er and ANYone like her (male or female) before they accept office, or not?

Since Firemen and soldiers have to undergo ACCREDITED evaluation before they can take tax-payer-funded salary.

yes or no question.

refusal to answer or silence in the face of the question speaks VOLUMES.

Stop hijacking the thread. This thread wasn't even about this and frankly, I have no clue what the hell you're talking about. I was *in* the military and the evaluation you speak of does not exist, at least not for the military members, as you would seem to imply.

I'm not hijacking the thread, you are evading the question.  The thread is about Palin resigning, the subject of "why" has come up, psychological health or lack thereof in politics is often a "why".

and you refused to answer the question, and from that, ANYONE on this thread is free to draw OBVIOUS conclusions as to why you would choose not to answer something so simple and basic.

and you don't get to "play dumb" either as since you can google with the best of them know know damn well what an MMPI is, what it means, and how it applies here.

If you wanna play the Police Captain from"The Changeling", go ahead.

The end of the story won't change much on this screen from the silver screen, boyo.

There's no hijack here and claiming there is, well, it's simply PALTRY.

First off, "boyo" there is a little button that says "quote" you can click so you don't have to draw your own quotation marks.

Secondly, it *is* a thread hijack to ask a question to two people that has nothing to do with the thread.

The thread is about Palin resigning. Many of us, like myself, are thrilled to hear that, because we know it blocks any hope of a presidential campaign for her.

You, however, are going on and on about some evaluation and whether I think it should be done. None of that even applies here.

Furthermore, the only "MMPI" that google showed me was a "Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. So again, I fail to see the  relevance.

No.  People the MMPI wouldn't like, have every right to participate in the process.  Something about taxation without representation...[;)]

The requirements of various office-holders are spelled out in the Constitution.  We don't go adding a "panel of experts" without an Amendment to the Constitution.  I'll be on the other side of that fight.
