Mind you, I am not merely using him for free labor.

A desire for service can come from different motivations, each for the dominant and submissive. I do not mean to suggest that when you have a sub do dishes you are seeking free labor. In my prior post I was thinking about what message might a sub take away if he was browsing profiles and came across one that asks for trade skills such as being a contractor or mechanic.

Cheers,

Sea

She can tie a cherry stem in a knot with her tongue?

If you can do that, I will channel my inner lesbian sub, and be right over.

Certainly the man dedicated to service acquires skills beyond those generally found
in his career path, so too does he develop resources that discerningly bring those skills to the forefront.
Those skills are not for sale, nor are they marketable and certainly not made available as enticement. We all have skills and expertise’s, some very finely honed, others go without being mentioned seen or recognized, yet they are useful skills and used without ceremony so it is the measure of a man cannot be found in his skill sets or in the dollars he generates but more in the content of his character and the honor codes guiding him.

I'm sorry.  I almost understood you.  Please write in a more opaque and stilted manner in the future, so I can be totally confused.

for a lot of people a special skill isn't a special skill it's just something they do without really thinking about it, and including it in a description feels on par with including the assertion that you have hygiene.

No, I just wish I could meet one who didn't try to de-sexualize BDSM, and wasn't interested in cuckolding, chastity, and orgasm denial.

I do have some very cool skills (I sort of collect skills), but I would be very hesitant to get involved with someone whose primary interest in me was one or more of those skills, just as many women are hesitant to get involved with someone who is only interested in sex without anything else.

Mine is HEAVY on the computer skills and can change the oil and some light mechanic skills...ie he can change the breaks and repair the air conditioner...AND he can tie a cherry stem in a knot...sometimes he can even get TWO knots in it...he cooks like a 5 star chef. Cleans like a demon.

But I married him because he makes me laugh...

When I was looking, I wanted someone with skills and interests I don't share, as well as hopefully some that I do, regardless of whether they were submissive, or any other D/s orientation. It's not that I expect him to provide those services for me, although it's nice if he's willing to be helpful for any reason that involves some emotional connection. I just like guys who are competent, who can share new things with me, who pull me into their world a bit, and let me bring them into mine. We don't have to do everything together, since we aren't siamese twins. However, if I'm off doing one thing, it's nice for him to have something else to have fun with, if he doesn't feel like coming along. On the flip side, it can be wonderful to have someone there to cheer me on, or for me to do that for him. It gives us more things to do, more things to talk about, and generally makes him a more intriguing person to spend time with. Oh, and Peon, my submissive also did firebreathing/fire-eating. I wasn't interested in attempting it myself, but it was pretty cool to watch him at events that lended themselves to him performing that way.

It's quite easy, really.  Your just use your mouth like a carburettor.   I wouldn't recommend it, though - not because of the problem of burning yourself (easy to avoid with a bit of practice) but because swallowing paraffin isn't good.

Hmm...a music teacher. (thinking kinky teacher/student fantasy with bondage using guitar strings)

Saw someone said somethinga bout killing and removing blackberries and I thought..."Wait, I thought everyone liked berries??" Or maybe he meant blackwidows? A guy who has no fear of bugs is golden.

I remember one time when I was young(er) that I had this boyfriend and we were hanging out at home when this GIANT moth the size of my palm flew in. It kept flying at me and I was screaming. I remember he tried hitting it with magazines and then he threw a book at it. Finally he squished it with a 2x4 and I was able to breathe again. Looking back now it was probably some rare species of moth...lol. But he was my hero that night for killing that demon moth!

Blackberries are yummy, but blackberry bushes are nasty thorny vines that grow extremely fast. If they aren't on your property, fine, but dealing with removing them when they get out of control is rather difficult. I dated a couple of guys who were phobic of spiders, so I was the one to deal with them when needed.

Nonsense, Anda.  Only women are afraid of spiders.

They were, but that's ok - I didn't mind being "St. Anda the spider slayer" (or more often the spider capturer and releaser). One of them overcame his phobia by gradual desensitisation while we were dating. He asked me to help him with it (showing him pictures and videos of spiders, going with him to the insect zoo, etc.).

So I don't get the unwillingness to use your skills to your advantage in a relationship - or even in getting one.  I want to bring my whole self to someone, not hold back in a tit-for-tat exchange.  I am also quite competitent in recognizing a "user" vs. a "giver" type of person and can nimbly sidestep and avoid getting myself ensnared by the wrong type.  So yea, I have skills and I offer them and my whole self into relationship with my Lady, with my wife, and with my friends.

From a submission perspective, I believe it is very important for a sub to bring a set of skills to a relationship that fits their person, stage in life, and their desires in relationship.  For myself, I focus on the girlie things - manicures/pedicures, hair and body care, cooking and cleaning...but I can also start a fire with wet wood, set up tents, haul stuff with the best of them, fix some stuff, I am artistic and am pretty good around a computer...my Lady gets all of that, and did from the moment we entered into each other's spheres...

Service is love made manifest...
