Yes there is....it's called the truth, something no politician is capable of doing!

i'm not really interested in having the same discussion a second time...all you need do is read over the thread and your confusion should be cleared up.
And yes doing away with 95% of the Federal Gov....is a bad thing.Unless of course you view life through rose colored glasses.....Is that what you were wearing when you applauded?

Someone who is wearing rose colored glasses sees something as good when in fact it is not. So the answer to your question would be no. Since I don’t see our over bloated, power hungry, money grubbing, federal government as a good thing and you apparently do – then it would seem to be you who are wearing the rose colored glasses.

slvemike4u -> RE: Bidden: We 'Misread the Economy' (7/8/2009 1:13:12 PM)

Thats what you came back with......i'm not wearing the glasses ,you are?
Really, and this took all night to come up with?
Was too easy.....

It’s an accurate assessment.

Really, and this took all night to come up with?

No, it took about five seconds to come up with. You think far too highly of yourself. Responding to you is not exactly high on my list of priorities in life.

quote:

Was too easy.....

Well of course it’s easy when you dodge the questions.

How does approval of one post automatically equal approval of another? If you laugh at one joke a comedian tells does that mean you are going to laugh at every joke he tells?

How does wanting to trim the federal government down to what the Constitution says it should be equal wanting to destroy (eviscerate) the federal government all together? If somebody is against the death penalty, does that mean they want to eliminate prisons altogether?

Never mind. It is obvious what is going on here. You are deliberately being obtuse because it is more soothing to your ego than admitting you’re making arguments based upon false assumptions about other people’s beliefs.

For the last time Marc.....you quoted and applauded the post in which Treasure advocated eliminating 95% of the Federal Gov.Now you amend that to "trim the federal government down to what the constitution says it should  be"
95% Marc...and you applauded this.
5% of our current federal gov. left and you assert,on and with what authority I have no idea, that this is what the constitution says it should be.
This is looking at the  world with rose colored glasses....the belief that our Country...a super power with obligations and far flung interests....internationally and domestically could be administered fairly and competently after you and Treasure have taken a hatchet to its bureaucracy.

95% of the non-defense/discretionary budget? It would place a massive burden on state budgets, but at least state officials can be held more directly responsible for there missteps. (Except in New Jersey)

Sanity -> RE: Bidden: We 'Misread the Economy' (7/8/2009 2:12:48 PM)

And remember, at the time that the president was insisting that Congress to rush the last "stimulus" bill through (before anyone could even read it), he was telling us that if it didn't get signed into law immediately we would have faced the most dire consequences.

quote:

ORIGINAL: OrionTheWolf

And now not only a misread, but the funds of the stimulus are not being used for long-term expansion.

" The Congressional Budget Office estimates that only 10 percent of the Recovery Act funds have been released so far, with about half of the money expected to be spent by October 2010. That dispersed money is being used to prioritize short-term projects and needs over more ambitious goals, the GAO report states. "

You hit on something mike, even if only by accident.

Why should the entire nation be held hostage by California and / or New York Liberals? If California wants to spend itself into oblivion - fine. But don't try to drag the rest of the nation down with you!

I completely agree with Treasure and with Marc, we need to return the majority of the power of government back to the states where the framers intended for it to reside.

I am a resident of California. You must be forgetting the most obvious example of accountability...Gray Davis. It is also heightened accountability that defeated the propositions in the last election. We are the leader in the economic debacle, and if the trends continue, also be the leader out of the social policies that have crippled the budget. MA can take credit for any current defeat of Health Care "reform", but should Obama be successful there, we will also be the leader out the mess it will create.

Sanity, here' one place where that all falls down..........california, new york and states like that are net losers in fed funds recieved back from their fed taxes, and most smaller states are net gainers.....................now after all these years of boom time where they provided for other states you are going to throw them under the bus when they have this long republican (and ostensibly conservative) history back to nixon, ragen and whatnot as governors?

You're talking like a WallStreet Exec........uh, I just saw today's report......... this is costing us...lose it, I'd rather sell toilet paper to dogs than try to profit off this shit................................the country would unravel quickly, dude.

Another poster making erroneous claims concerning the framers.
Lets try to put this to sleep for once and for all.....the framers did not intend for the power of government to reside with the states....Hence the passing of the Constitution following the Crisis of 1787.Replacing,by the way,the weak and ineffectual Articles of Confederation ...under which power of the Gov. did reside in the states
The Constitution clearly established the Federal Government as the overriding seat of governmental power.
If you consider Washington ,Hamilton,John Jay and Madison to be included amongst the Framers....than you can not claim that the framers favored stronger local gov.at the expence of a weak federal gov.
If Jefferson is the only framer you are referring to....than go right ahead....but realise that Jefferson betrayed all those political beliefs once he became President.

Nixon was never Governor. And yes, NY and CA will be "thrown under the bus". That is a good thing as far as Im concerned. When the banks stop cashing IOUs as if they were money the runaway spending will have to stop. It will be painful for state employees, especially those hired in the future, but why should they be immune from economic downturns that the private sector isnt immune from?

mnottertail -> RE: Bidden: We 'Misread the Economy' (7/8/2009 3:23:55 PM)

Banks cashing IOU's?

Oh, I didn't know this was a fantasy rant.

Politesub53 -> RE: Bidden: We 'Misread the Economy' (7/8/2009 3:26:31 PM)

Ive asked this on other threads and not had a reply, so here is another try.

To those of you critical of the bailouts. Would you still feel the same way if the government had let everything collapse, including your job, bank, insurance company ect ect ?

The reason I ask is this would have been the most likely outcome, any talk that things would have sorted themselves out is nonsense, we would have had a world wide meltdown.

mnottertail -> RE: Bidden: We 'Misread the Economy' (7/8/2009 3:29:54 PM)

Polite.............

I don't think the money is helping, so me........theres more but I'm tired.

Does anyone need further proof that a strong federal government is a necessity!

Fantasy? Banks were cashing state IOUs, they have announced that they will stop on Friday if there is no budget deal.

and check cashing stores may get a windfall by taking them at greatly reduced values

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: Bidden: We 'Misread the Economy' (7/8/2009 3:45:10 PM)

Yes, I would (and do) feel the exact same way... and I suspect that the result of this artificial 'fluffing' of the economy will fall out in a few years, and we'll -still- have to deal with a huge economic doo-doo pile.

Of course, my company instituted a hiring freeze, cut its workforce by over 3000 people, doubled the workloads of the rest of us, and -this- from an industry that should have been near recession/depression-proof. *shrugs*

You can't fix poor money management skills by throwing more borrowed money at them.
