The kiosk guy can sell what he wants. He has yet to prove that what he sells is the problem. As the article states, other stores are also selling these items. The Mall also has the right not to renew leases. They dont need to give a reason. Just like the kiosk guy could not renew for his own reason. Maybe the Mall got offered more money, maybe they just dont want him there. Its their right to not renew. Here are the letters in the Charlotte Observer quote:
Concord Mills complacent in letting bigoted products be sold Over the past weekend Concord Mills introduced consumers to a new kind of ignorance. “Free Market Warrior,” a kiosk located adjacent to Bass Pro Shops, specializes in memorabilia embellished with pro-Confederacy statements. In addition, these products support ideas such as racism, sexism and even slavery. While freedom of speech is a constitutional right, it's difficult not to believe that something just isn't quite right here. It's 2009; please, let's at least try to put this type of bigotry to an end. Jennifer Ibanez Charlotte http://www.charlotteobserver.com/408/story/770298.html?q=Free Market Warrior quote:
Free speech applies to all, even Free Market Warrior customers The writer owns Free Market Warrior at Concord Mills Mall. Free Market Warrior sells a wide variety of products to numerous members of the community, and the response has been very positive. Like letter writer Jennifer Ibanez, we abhor racism, slavery or any acts of bigotry. In fact, we promote free market principles, which can reduce these negative influences in our society. After all, the greatest cause of slavery around the world is authoritarian government. By encouraging citizenship and economic and political freedom, we are empowering Americans to stand up for their rights and beliefs against politicians who would encroach on them. This free expression is the antithesis of slavery. And while there is no doubt that the election of America's first African American president is a great step away from racism, an even bigger step will be taken when he can be criticized just the same as any other president. Loren Spivack Charlotte In response to “The Grads of 2009” (June 10): http://www.charlotteobserver.com/408/story/42334.html?q=Free Market Warrior Other articles pertaining toi this http://www.charlotteobserver.com/business/story/854652.html?q=Free Market Warrior http://www.charlotteobserver.com/politics/story/847019.html?q=Free Market Warrior there are more here if you care to look http://www.charlotteobserver.com/search/?q=Free Market Warrior I tend to agree, he may very well have been booted out for the merchandise he sold. but.. guess what.. his lease was up. not much can be done about it. i dont even think suing would do any good.
