Cashie and AMos just got dusted with the diatomaceous earth stuff. Not evenly, because they squirmed. I hope that by Tues., I can treat them with Revolution. The weather will be cool enough for me to stage a "bring your cats to work" night while I flea bomb the house.

Angel is quite a little brat. My neighbor had his dog tied outside and it was barking frantically so I went to see what was going on. There was Angel, taunting him, knowing he wanted to chase her but couldn't. I told her to get her butt home and leave the poor dog alone so the neighborhood could have peace and quiet.

Bibby has apparently dropped her most recent litter. I am hoping that she will bring them to me at some point. Then maybe I can cram them into the carrier and get them all spayed/neutered (and the kittens homed).

Angel is napping after spending a morning outside in the nice cooler autumn temps. Misty is snoozing on the edge of the comforter, which is draped precariously over the edge of the bed, looking like it could slip at any minute.

One is sleeping on the old comforter I just put down for the dogs, begrudgingly sharing it with one of the dogs only because it's so big he can't stretch out enough to take up the whole comforter surface. My other cat is laying mostly behind my laptop with just her head and front legs visible, doing this thing she does where she repeatedly stretches her front paws towards my hand with a little trilling noise, claws extended all the way out just until her paws reach my hand, then she retracts her claws and gently pats my hand with her paws. She repeats the process until I pet her. It's incredibly cute and she knows I'll give in and pet her sooner or later.

I'll have to get some plastic gloves for administering Angel's Advantage treatments. Today I applied it with my finger and some of the red polish came off my nail and went into her white fur. The poor thing now has a pink area in her white fur.

Playing with a bendy straw because she's too good to play with the fancy pet store toys I bought here.

Angie is on her way to the vets this morning. She has barely eaten since Monday. I am scared that her chronic kidney failure might have ramped up into acute. She is only 5 1/2, and way too young for this crap.

I am so sorry to hear that. Yes, 5 1/2 is WAY too young for that. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Misty gave me quite a scare this week. She threw up in the middle of the night, then spent the entire next day isolating in the closet and refusing to eat. Thankfully, the next night she came and slept with me like she normally does and woke me up at 6:30 demanding to be fed, which was a good sign. I was so thankful her appetite returned and she came out of that closet. At least she is 16 3/4 years old and was only diagnosed with CRF four months ago. It breaks my heart to hear of younger cats with chronic renal failure. A friend's Siamese was just diagnosed and he's only 7.

Well, if you read my posts in other places, I mentioned that Angie has been in the kitteh ICU in acute failure. A lot of emotional crap yesterday trying to decide what to do, how far to go, etc. As you cat owners know, this stuff is expensive, and we don't have much of a cushion to work with. The suggested treatment was 24 hours of IV therapy to get her BUN(61) and creatinine (755) and phosphorous down. $150.00 a day, plus visit plus extensive blood work.

Just got back from seeing her. She is bright and alert. She has had some food today, and is going to the bathroom. She will come home on subcutaneous fluid therapy for about a week, to continue to wash out all the extra crap. My early feeling is that it looks like this is going to work.

The vet was very confident that this was not the end, and that we could gain months, may be even years. After seeing her this morning, I am so glad we did it. If nothing else, it gives us some breathing room to make some plans, as to how far, how often, etc. And to stock away some money deliberately to pay for her expected future vet bills.

That's encouraging news, yourdarkdesire :)

Angel evidently wasn't aware that the outside temps dropped about 30 degrees in the last day. She begged to go out, but spent a grand total of two minutes outside before wailing to come back in. Many are enjoying the cooler temps, but she doesn't seem to be one of them.

And this is why every pet owner should have pet insurance. I never ever want to be put in a position where money makes a health decision for my gals.
That would just crush me

Edited to add that I hope that didn't come off as harsh and insensitive or "I told ya so"-ish. My heart hurts for ya YDD,. Prayers and good vibes most def headed your way.

It wasn't harsh at all Kana. Part of the thinking was do we spend all this money now, only to have to turn around in six weeks and repeat? Do we spend all this money only to have the treatment fail and face a euthanasia and cremation bill next week.

Thankfully, it seems to be working. She is eating and drinking and peeing. The meds go down easily, but she is not a big fan of the IV.

And of course, since she has CRF, she would be ineligible for insurance due to pre existing condition. Also, I live in Canada, and the pet insurance industry has been very slow to grow here. but it is certainly something I will pursue if another pet comes into the house.

Also, keep in mind I have two children that need to be winterized yet. That is one reason that job opportunity I almost walked into on Thursday has made me decide to go back to work.

Binx was aloof when I went to visit Lizard. All she did was meow and I fed her. A couple of good scratches and she went back outside, probably chasing field mice. She did catch a large rat one day and was playing with it when Lizard took it away from her.

Angel has a fascination with inclement weather. Last night a storm came through with high winds and rain and she just wanted to sit on the porch and watch it all. You'd think that would scare a cat, but not her. She finally came in grudgingly when I insisted she do so out of concern for her safety.
