I thought this sounded familiar.

You made this exact post, word for word, on the Palin resigns thread.

Running out of original thoughts that you have to cut and paste your own previous responses to other posters and topics?

Accurate and correct information doesn't require originality every time.  I put enough into the post the first time I made it.  With the number of people around here who need educating, it's handy to be able to quote myself.  [;)]

You do have a strange idea of what "word-for-word" and "exact" means, though.  Interesting.  That might explain a lot of things with regard to your ideas.

Wow, thank you Arpig, I didn't mean to impose on you that way, I only meant to ask if you knew off of the top of your head what Canada's financial outlook was like. But I appreciate your taking the time to look it all up, it's all of interest to me.

I still have a lot of questions (not for you necessarily) but I'd like to know more about the situation in other places. I have an open mind about this, but as you can tell I am apprehensive that we are being sold a bill of goods that may make things go from relatively good to very bad.

What we have now is Wall Street controlled health care! Palin is ridiculous. Greedy scum sucking vampires that's what she is. $750 million in stock options that bastard made, that's what you're defending. Watch the video

Obama tells his union goon friends that he is working towards a single payer system, or government controlled care. If you haven't seen the video just ask me and I can post it again. So the question Palin is asking has to do with reality - how exactly will the faceless bureaucrats in charge choose to divvy up a limited health care budget when, as Obama likes to say, sacrifices have to be made?

Say you throw open the doors to the malls and say "from now on, everything is free". No one has to perform labor any more, people just load up on whatever they want. In that scenario (because no one has to work), eventually there won't be enough "stuff" to go around, and "free" health care is just one more step in that direction, and it will have to be rationed.

What Palin is asking is perfectly legit, some are just to blind to realize that.

Ahh... so to you, being accurate and consistent equates to ego?

Curiouser and curiouser.  I'm beginning to see a pattern emerge...

Not really a problem, I am a geek, and I like to do research. And I thought your questions were germane, and I wanted to know the answers to the economic ones myself. I decided to source everything  because I figured it was important that the facts be put out there in a manner that defies them being disputed (OK I am sure anybody can find slightly different figures, but not different by much).

Like many on here (were I an American) I would oppose the present plans, but for entirely different reasons. Oh well, you know what they say about politics and strange bedfellows. [:D]

Brain -> RE: "Leave My Family Out Of It (Except When I Want To Use Them)" (8/9/2009 8:21:03 PM)

One way to get single-payer is to get rid of the Senators who are blocking it. Everybody knows single payer is the best way to get costs reduced, Obama knows it, that’s why Sarah Palin and the rest of the republican scumbags are fighting so hard to maintain the corporate status quo.

Calendar of Events
Event:
Challenge Max Baucus

Senator Max Baucus has demonstrated over and over that he is the single biggest stumbling block in the Senate to single-payer healthcare.

Progressive Democrats of America believes that is the duty of elected officials to represent the best interests of the electorate. This is especially true when the majority of the electorate has made their wishes known.

It is outrageous that the voice of the people is being completely ignored in favor of the failed corporate healthcare that has left our system shattered. It is shameful that front line doctors and nurses have been arrested for trying to bring their expertise to the discussion.

In these economic times, we cannot undertsand why Sen. Baucus is not considering single-payer healthcare, the most viable option for containing costs, delivering quality care, providing choice, and stimulating the economy.

Today, June 3, 2009, Progressive Democrats of America throws down the gauntlet.

Join the Challenge Max Baucus campaign! PDA is seeking a viable progressive candidate--who supports single-payer healthcare--to run for Max Baucus' Senate seat in 2014.

It is our intent to elect a progressive candidate beholden to the electorate, one who puts people above profits.

PDA is seeking volunteers in Montana and elsewhere to work in this grassroots campaign. Contact [email protected]

Hey, Sanity you have not responded to Arpig's 6:42 entry yet.   This is not rocket science.  Is your silence an admission that Obama should just try to force a single payer plan through?

Given Sanity's answer or lack thereof, I still think that Obama should try to force a single payer system through.  One of the interviewees today was a grey haired representative from Virginia.  He dismantled the republican arguments one after another; basically called them thieves and on the take;
and extolled the single payer system as the answer.  It may not "be on the table" but they are thinking about it.  Why are we trying to pass another "Insurers Relief Act" when they have sodomized us for 61 years?

Says the guy who thinks the white house is asking all loyal citizens of the Fatherland to report their family members to the Ministry of State Security for disagreeing with Obama....

We certainly can't rely on the left to holler about these things for a few years, can we Panda?  [;)]

No, Rich, but in 3 and a half years, it looks like it'll be our turn again. Keep our seats warm for us for a few years, will you?

Without getting into a debate about whether or not single payer experts should have been allowed at the committee table, I will say that after watching the video of the proceedings, I can understand why the committee chair called for the police to bring order.  This was a meeting, after all, and not an open forum.  These people were causing a disruption to the proceedings.

But I wonder... where is all the outrage over this "angry mob"?  [:D]

Arpig -> RE: "Leave My Family Out Of It (Except When I Want To Use Them)" (8/9/2009 9:23:06 PM)

Thanks tazzy. From the stuff you posted it doesn't seem quite as bad as at first. I don't know how it works in the US,but up here you would get removed for disrupting a parliamentary hearing. And they did get their chance to make a presentation in the end. It is still very disturbing that things came to this point. I noticed that Baucus' reason for not entertaining any single-payer options was purely political...he says it won't pass, so why bother to try. A sad summing up of the situation if you ask me, you guys really need a Tommy Douglas.

FR as i haven't read through the whole thread...

yeah, it is rationed. i'm in aus, where we have a socialised health system. Rationing comes in different ways. i've got a good job, i have a health problem. i buy private health insurance to cope with any future surgical or other issues that may crop up in the future. if i hadn't picked up the private care before the age of 30, i would be charged an extra percentage based on my age. fairs fair.

when i pay my taxes, if i don't have private health care there is an extra surcharge on income above a certain level. i could afford private, i choose not to get it, i pay for it anyways. if you've got an income to support private, and you don't, my feeling is, you should get surcharged. What i pay here for top level care is a fraction of what american's pay.

i also attend my gp (general practitioner) where i pay a $30 gap between what the government will pay and what the dr charges. when i was very poor i was on the aus form of social security, and i didn't pay gaps, my medications were heavily supported for me, but i still paid a nominal charge.

really wish people would stop associating socialised health care with gestapo mentality. it ain't so. sure, there's LOTS of problems with the system, but no system is perfect and at least over here, i'm not refused health care because i can't afford it.

"Free" health care will have to be rationed, and hard decisions will have to be made.

Very hard decisions, and that's her entire point.

You just don't like the way she said it because she really hit the nail on the head!

So, if we can find prettier names for what's done, it will be acceptable?

What exactly is going to be done?

Will there be a "death panel" that will appropriate health care according to a person's "level of productivity in society" and decide who lives and dies, as Sarah says?

Will this be Soylent Green becoming reality?

If you can't recognize this for the nonsense it is I don't what to tell you.

Arpig, tazzygirl and KMsangel,

Thank you all for the additional information added to the discussion. "Democracy Now" on Public Radio has been airing several shows on the health care reform debate. One that is particularly relevant focuses on the single payer system.
