Status: offline 		When we wanted to learn about the lifestyle, we had to go out and find our own schools.

Then, when we found such a school and it's teachers, we had to walk ten miles.

In the snow.

Uphill.

Both ways.

And we were grateful.

(My apologies now to Bill Cosby and stealing one of his popular bits from Bill Cosby Himself.)

This is My smart assed introduction to the rash of threads lately where it seems like folks just want to sign on to this site, get all of their questions answered for them, without having to put in any work on their own.  At times, it just seems like they don't want to have any of their own initiative.  No drive of their own.  Just sign in here and everything will be handed to them.  Once we provide all of the answers, that will make them uber Dom of the universe or give them the spirit of slavery.  No creativity.  No investment.  Everything handed to them without any effort of their own.

There are a good group of forum regulars here that are happy to share their experiences with people new to WIITWD.  We enjoy teaching and we enjoy answering your questions.  When that new person is seeking knowledge, we're glad to share our opinions and help you.  We're paying it forward because other people helped us.

At the same time, we can't do it all for you.  When you can't even bother yourself to do a search on google or come up with some of your own ideas, that's just lazy.  Personally, I don't see such a lack of creativity or attention to detail as something that is desired on either side of the kneel.  There's a difference between helping you and doing it all for you.  Quite frankly, if the forum regulars can see it, you can be sure that the person on the other side of the kneel can see it too.

Just a few words for you to think about on your Saturday.

Saw a few threads this morning and thought the same thing. Luckily beth brought me coffee, and since it is the weekend without kids, it was Bailey's AND whipped cream, and it mellowed me out a bit.

However, when I see the daily; "I just met someone on-line who is visiting me this weekend. Can anyone help me with ideas on what to do with him/her?" I think that should disqualify you from expecting a civil response. Seriously, you've got up a profile, it has all of your "likes/dislikes/hard limits", you have a date; and you ask "NOW WHAT?!" WTF! Do you at least appreciate how stupid that sounds?

Then I consider the other side of the 'date'. What the hell can they be thinking? "Damn - that's the fool I agreed to see on Saturday!" Any wonder there are a lot of 'no-shows'? Here's a 'dom' coming to visit that will need a 'cheat sheet' to refer to.

  • Step 1 - Fluff the flogger.
  • Step 2 - Swing behind your back.
  • Step 3 - Swing flogger forward. (Note - try to avoid hitting yourself!)
  • Step 4 - Ask the person you may have hit; "Was that 'good' for you?"
  • Step 5 - Repeat until told to stop or hearing safe-word.

Why do you think I put up the OP I did yesterday? Very few questions are of such a nature as to really spark any learning or growth at all. Most of it boils down to some basics like common sense, communication, and INITIATIVE. Please folks, do your homework and THEN come with you more specific questions or areas you need clarification or expansion on.

I gotta admit Merc, I am so with you there. The question I ask frequently here is...

So, after you find yourself a slave... an entire human who is willing to give themselves to you lock, stock, and barrel... what exactly were you planning on doing with that human?

All too often, it seems like all the focus is on obtaining the sub/slave/whatever and there is zero focus on what happens next. In my mind, it'd be like someone going out to buy a dog with no clear idea what they were going to do with dog afterwards other than simply to have one.

But i do agree with the idea that if you want to be the leader, you had better have a vision about what you are leading to.

Status: offline 		I think a lot of people are asking their questions badly. There are lots of tools for finding a kinky playmate. There are lots of resources to learn about how to tie knots and swing a flogger and all that. There is very little on the space between those two things. It's a big leap and it's the kind of thing that is pretty much learn on the job. You can't tell MrDomPants how to successfully navigate the transition between talking about kink and tying up misssubbypanties because only they can find their way through that interaction. But they will ask anyway if they haven't done it before, because they don't realize that there is no way for other people to explain this part, they are really on their own.

Status: offline 		At least on this message board, the most clueless posts are put up by people whose profiles indicate they are well over 35.  Especially among the female posters, the younger ones tend to be awfully sharp.  In fact, your comment that newbies should go to tng indicates to me that you don't have a big ton of experience about who gets active in BDSM when, and at what stage in their lives.

Always something more to learn, that is for sure.
