Currently my owner and I are discussing tattoos, though it's not a matter of "if" it's a matter of style and type at this point. Been looking around the web and we are currently thinking of doing it in Kenji (Japanese characters) as it seems to be fairly common and most people can't read them so it doesnt' have to be as hidden. And since my Mistress speaks Japanese it seemed like a good idea. At any rate was curious on hearing some other points of view from those that have either given their subs/slaves tattoos to mark them as theirs and from those that have received them. In particular I'm curious about impacts on the relationship either positive or negative. also very interested in opinions from anyone that also used Kenji for this purpose.

On the negative side, there is some danger of infection in getting a tattoo. There is also the danger of your next dominant/submissive not being all that happy with a big tattoo spelling out someone else's ownership in a blatant fashion. Then, what do you do? Get rid of it? Cover it in some way? I like subtlety. I've discussed tattoos with various people through the years and I've discussed ownership/owned tattoos with submissives. My second submissive carries a tattoo that meant something to us from the D/s context we shared and the romantic relationship. It was not overt and yet had a D/s theme that most in D/s would recognize. And when we split, she could go forward with it as a reminder of our better times and yet not offend a potential future owner with a blatant statement of my ownership of her. I think it depends on the individuals involved, their understanding and appreciation of body art, and the depth of the commitment not only to each other but to the artwork.

Well I have tattoed my girls neck with a chinese symbol for 'Slave' . It works because no one knows what it means, if she is asked about its meaning a level of humiliation comes in to it. Also it is permanant. reagrds M

Yep no one but the Chinese would know what it meant huh Lordi? Sorry I really hate kanji and Chinese lettering on English people. Might as well get something in martian tatted on you. You still wont know exactly what it says either way.

Oriental characters are fashionable nowadays. Make absolutely certain that you know what is being tattood on her. There are some really amusing war stories out there of crappy internet translations or, even worse, some asian tattoo guy with an axe to grind. Either way, make sure it actually says what you think it says. Other than that, the only concerns I know of are the obvious ones. I'm working on a lower back tattoo for Carol. Temporary tattoo inkjet paper is just a blast.

I was thinking henna would be fun also Jeff. Really IMNSHO, Something like that should be ultra personal. Any tattoo should be. That's on your skin for LIFE. Even with the new laser removal, you'll still have a jenky looking scar. Whats his heritage? Is he irish or something? Maybe you could find the crest for his family, pick one of the symbols off of it and get that symbol done in his favorite color. Or find a symbol that means something to both of you, or even a group of symbols, put a twist on it that makes it absolutely personal, and have that done. A poly family I know, got little puzzle pieces done on their forearms, in their favorite colors done. All the puzzle pieces fit together, its very special to them and absolutely adorable. (Edit to add, I already know of 3 girls that have the kanji for slave tatted on them.....just sayin)

I do, however, have some fairly decent photoshop skills so working it all out in photoshop then just being able to print a "test tattoo" absolutely rocks. Eventually, when I love it, I'll just take it to a tattoo artist and say, "Here, do that but better." chuckles.

I <3 photoshop as I absolutely suck at drawing. Like I cant draw a straight line with a straight edge...it goes all of center.....Yes I epic fail at drawing.

I have "servant" in Japanese kanji from Master and it has only deepened our relationship, but it has to be your decision. I feel extremely happy every time I look at it and I am so glad we did it. I have another one too but this one is a picture. Edited to add Master speaks some Japanese so it has special meaning for us and we had it done in Japan where he lives at the moment.

as a tattoo artist i personally hate doing kenji and kanji. but seeing how your mistress speak japenese, i can see it having more meaning. someone mention risk of infection. if you go to a professional there should really be no risk of infection unless it does not get the proper aftercare. i would suggest something that has meaning to the both of you. after all it will be on your body forever. the master/slave community have several symbols that can be used, or create your own. who is this tattoo intended for? public display of ownership? display of ownership within the community? or a personal bond between the two of you?

I'm a Chinese, so I read Chinese. Japanese language is rooted deeply from Chinese, so we share a lot of similarities. Normally I'd suggest be really careful about the kenji you decided to put on your skin, because most Chinese characters has different meanings. For example, I've seen a lot of girls put on the Chinese word for "chicken" (鸡）, I guess it's probably because they're born in the year of rooster. But that character could also mean female hooker (yes... the male version is "duck"). I've seen people tattooed Chinese word for master and slave (主，奴). If you decide to put it on somewhere that's generally exposed (arms, neck, ankle, etc) just make sure you guys don't go to China... or some people will probably point at you and talk behind your back...LOL (who knows, there might be some dude went on his blog say: I saw this foreign chic today and she had a tattoo says "slave"...). If you really want to do "master/slave" character, try ancient style, like "xiaozhuan" or "dazhuan" (小篆，大篆），these characters even most Chinese people can't read it. Also, if you want to tattoo Chinese character, make sure find a professional and do a good calligraphy. I've seen some ugly Chinese character tattooed, because people don't know how to read it, they don't care, but for me...they're just ugly. Chinese character is very beautiful when writing with nice style. One good example being the tattoo on Beckham (on the side of his torso), that's actually the best Chinese character tattoo I've seen.

well the tattoo would be going on me and she is Asian, relationship is marriage serious so not overly concearned about long term or the "next" mistress. This will be about my 7th Tattoo and the 2nd time to have someone's name :P first was covered up. the actualy slave on the neck is sort of the idea though we dont' use the term "slave" in our relationship though we do use property and pet.

Good, not that I need to feel better about the choices in YOUR relationship (that has nothing to do with me) it makes me smile that she IS Asian. Hmmm, what about the kanji for pet then? (if there is a kanji for that) What kind of pet are you? A kitten maybe? You could always go with kitten too if that's what you are. (edit to add, I missed the fact the tat is for YOU, lol sorry)

Actually more then likely will be actually tattoo'd in asia lol so not going there will be difficult :P My Mistress speaks Japanese but doesnt' know the characters so is asking for some help from friends.

Chinese for pet is actually 2 words : 宠物（literally means spoiled object, pretty sweet if you ask me~~~) (edit to add) I strongly suggest getting the tattoo in Chinese or Japan, if you decided to get a Kenji Tattoo. They know the language, unlikely to make mistakes with meaning.

I would be careful about any Asian symbol. My brother is married to a Japanese woman who sees all kinds of funny things people have for tattoos. Instead of the symbol for "Year of the Pig", it would say "pork". Just because it is in he tattoo parlors book of designs doesn't mean it is correct.

I view getting a tattoo along the same lines as a wedding (in the specific venue of permanence). It is not something to cover up, or remove. I want this relationship to last forever. Or until we both drop dead. Samurai would frame the skins of fallen opponents with tattoos on them. :D Design something iconic/symbolic with specific meaning understood only by you and your owner.
