Oh wow... this is just too good!!!

It seems this 25 year old gonzo filmaker really struck a nerve...http://biggovernment.com/author/jokeefe/

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much!

An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a "news" agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working class people in the country.

We are their Willy Horton for 2009. We are the boogeyman for the right-wing and its echo chambers. If ACORN did not exist, the right-wing would have needed to create us in order to achieve their agenda, their missions, their ideal, retrograde America.

And, in fact, a crime it was - our lawyers believe a felony - and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators.

I CANNOT WAIT for the discovery that comes out of this lawsiut...especially what the severence package was to the women the let go.

The discovery should be fascinating. All the film of O'Keefe trying this scam and failing should make it clear this was a well financed hatchet job. ACORN's biggest hurdle based on the Food Lion ruling is to prove actual damages. After that its a slam dunk for them.

You know, if we just replace Arkansas with Acorn we can pretend we are back in the Clinton years.

Oh wait................I forgot.....................we're already doing that.

I fail to see what O'Keefe's crime was, especially the felony part.  Okay. . . so he is taking a page from Michael Moore. . . ummm. . . big deal.

I don't see it as a crime either but there is certainly a basis for a civil action.

Fraud etc. See the Food Lion v ABC lawsuit. ABC lost but Food Lion failed to prove actual damages so didn't get anything.

O'Keefe's actions in this case is identical to the ABC's reporters. He went into ACORN's offices fraudulently and repeatedly attempted to get ACORN employees to do something against the law or ACORN's policies. So all ACORN has to prove is actual damages, which might be tricky, and O'Keefe and his monetary backers are on the hook for the actual damages plus potential punitive damages. It could get very very expensive for Rupert.

You know we have an ACORN storefront outfit here in Vanier (probably the lowest income community in Ottawa) and they do nothing but good here. They are civil rights activists, so I expect them to advise hookers, pimps and addicts in their civil rughtsd and the ramifications of their career choices. If they didn't advise the local streetwalker then I have no use for them. Something that is seemingly forgotten in this discussion is the fact that crack whores are humans to...humans with exactly the same rights as you. I just discovered the ACORN office yesterday, but I intend to drop in next week and inquire about volunteering...we poor folks need people like them. They help us get the most out of our benefit entitlements, they help us make sure we are not ripped of by some corporation with a legal budget that exceeds the GNP of some African countries. We poor fuckers cannot fight on our own, we don't have the fucking cash and we sure as fuck can't afford to take any time off (assuming that wouln't get us fired in the first place).
You may want to portray ACORN as an evil socialist front group, well I personally very glad that here in Canada they are an openly internationalist socialist organization,

It may be anathema to all of you Yanks regardless of party affiliation but socialism, applied with reason and forethought actually works pretty fucking well...just ask our bankers who unlike yours didn't go broke and in fact continued to make healthy profits through the acclaimed financial meltdown. Just ask any poor single mother who's child needs brain surgery that would cost her 200 years of her annual salary to pay off it weren't for the evil socialist health system we have. Just ask the poor fucker who's job was downsized and who's family depends on his EI cheques to survive while he struggles to find a new job..ask him how bad socialism is. It fucking works! wake up and stop playing your outdated cold war boogeyman games.
SOCIALISM WORKS!

advising hookers and addicts in their civil rights is one thing (though do you really advocate helping pimps???)

In Baltimore and again in DC, ACORN was not advocating they were advising on how to evade taxes from a criminal enterprise and how to use social services and other well meaning programs to hide human slave trafficking and the type of prostitution, we cannot mention here on this site.

To that, we are getting BLAME THE MESSENGER!!!

Well, Al Capone help the poor too...so what?

Thankfully, things about them are coming to light.

Ar, you know I lean closer left than right (and am not ashamed to admit it) and, were what you listed all they did, I would be firmly on your side. Now I haven't watched the video (computer issues right now make video watching difficult) but if the claim that they continued to give help when the idea of using underage girls as prostitutes is true, it brings the conversation to a different level. When anyone, anywhere does anything to facilitate or even tolerate child sex trafficking, for me the train stops there. If that is indeed what they were giving counseling and aid to, then that in and of itself is good reason to stop any conversation other than "Don't do it and if you do I will personally do all that I can do to see you in jail for the next hundred years."

I don't see many issues in such black and white terms, but child sex trafficking is one where I don't see much gray.

Spinner agreed.

And the fact they did not immediatly call the police in DC or in Baltimore speaks volumes

In both those cases the worker who gave the advice (and technically the reporters who faked it) are probaly guilty of conspiracy and should be so charged. If it turns out that the local bosses advised them to do so, then expand the conspiracy charge...and if it turns out that this sort of thing was approved at the national level then expand the charges again and nail the buggers to the wall. Just don't take ACORN away from us genuinely poor folks who need their help and advocacy.

ACORN's response is the same as Obama's...ignore and obfuscate the facts/truths by attacking the messenger(s) thereof.  About a month ago two members of ACORN's Washington DC Region Board of Directors were fired and banned from ACORN's offices for asking ACORN's National Headquarters to account for membership dues sent to it from the Washington DC regional office. ACORN is rotten to its core, just like Obama.

Well, you seem consistent there. Spinner, good for you. Really, bravo.

And I agree. Its offensive to see people rushing up to defend the people who could do that. Politics should stand aside, and at this point its about the individuals and hopefully it isn't all of ACORN (or even a significant percentage) that is like this.

But the possibility needs to be looked in to, and the authorities on all levels should stay vigilant.

On this we are in complete agreements. These are serious charges. They deserve serious investigation. There is, however, a reasonable perception that the attempt to discredit the entire organization before any investigation is conducted, is part of the agenda to discredit the current administration. All one has to do is look at the posting, news clips etc that trumpet, almost gleefully, that this is an organization that Obama played a large part in years ago and putting two plus two together does not take a degree in higher mathematics.

So I say again, these matters need to be investigated. On the one hand, what is being discussed in this matter is not something to be tolerated in any way, shape or form. On the other, this organization does, despite it's faults, provide valuable services to communities that desperately need them I would hope that my brethren on the right would recognize the true seriousness of this matter and concentrate on finding the facts rather than making political hay.

Do those rights include importing underage girls for the sex trade? Advising these people about their legal rights is one thing. Advising them how to skirt the law is entirely another.

I agree that the baby should not be thrown out with the bath water. I see this as an incident in one ACORN office with a few ACORN employees and should be dealt with as such.

well, the underage thing is strictly out of the equation, but is sexually and physically abusing women ok with you? It ain't with most of the legal world, consentual or no. Careful about the stone thingie, chief.

I'm not suggesting that Obama had anything to do with this in any way.

BUT.

If this were Bush's organization, if he had anything to do with an organization such as this when something like that came out, that fact would have been trumpeted from the top of every mountain and mole hill.

ACORN is tied to Obama though, so this is going virtually unreported.

So what I AM saying is, there are always two standards.

<first line taken out, it was obnoxious of me, and uncalled for, and I thought the better of it, my apologies, Sanity>

Time and again it is always the hypothetical.

If Bush would have done it it would be big shit.
If Gore would have been president it would have been disaster.
If we hadn't gone into Iraq the country would have been slaughtered, and we would have had our cities razed by WMD.
If the liberal media wouldn't have sniped at ol' hipshooter we would have....
If the liberal media wouldn't have sniped at the stupid cunt Palin we would have....
If the liberal media wouldn't have pointed out the bridge to nowhere was bullshit, we would have...

Get a grip on your feminine side, try to rein it in a little, we get how you feel, but the chicken little woe is me shit is just plain not real, it is just an emotion.

Ron

Absolutely! especially because ACORN is by its very nature a left-leaning organization, they have to be especially vigilant...just as a right-leaning public advocacy group should be. Its OK that they support Dems (or the GOP on the other end of the spectrum) but they have to make absolutely certain they are not stepping over the line into partisanship...or even worse illegalities. I hope this turns out to be a stupid front line worker, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if goes higher up the chain of command that that.
