No excuse for Kanye's behavior but I wonder if he has been having addiction problems only since his mother died or before then.

I can't imagine what it would be like to gain success and celebrity and pay for the cosmetic surgery that makes you lose your mother.

Level -> RE: Classless - Kanye West (9/15/2009 3:33:59 AM)

I hope his apology was sincere; he can prove it, but that's the key, action.

LaTigresse -> RE: Classless - Kanye West (9/15/2009 4:07:28 AM)

Somehow, given what I've read, his past behaviour is a pretty good indication.

A rapper can be an instant star and have no appreciation of the incredible good fortune they have.  Just wear a bunch of furs and gold, and act arrogant.  If West's career came crashing down, it would be one of the best things that could happen to him.
And then you have others who work hard at crafting stories that resonate with young urban kids and speak to them the same way Kerouac spoke to a generation. It's easy to put all rappers in a group and narrowly judge if the poetry of some doesn't resonate with your own personal experience. Alot of rap is trash....surprisingly enough....alot of  rap isn't.

Alot of the no talent kids on American Idol can have careers, but would we comment on whether they wear furs and gold?[8|]

Try listening to Common, MosDef, Talib Kweli they have non-threatening wardrobes....and even some of the gold wearing fur sporting rappers have relevant lyrics.

Now i'm leaving for work....i'll be listening to Jay-Z's latest while driving there.

I would have to hear the explanation before I made a judgement on what she said. You said in a previous post that "Just thought I'd mention that people often do really fucked up things that they regret later."

Well sometimes people type really fucked up things they regret later also.

Back on topic, they just did a little clip on Kanya and mentioned that this isn't the first time he has disrupted an awards show. I hadn't heard anything about the previous event and am wondering if anyone else does?

As long as guys like Kanye and Vick exist... the "N word" will be alive and well in American culture as the only adjective that can possible describe their behaviour.  It's nice to know jerks exist in a variety of colors.

Wow...........just wow.

Ditto [>:] .
They perpetuate a stereotype is all. I'd insist the NAACP kick their ass.

Which stereotype? The stereotype that drunk black men will embarrass young white girls while defending black women from the evil whitey video music award machine? Is that the stereotype you're talking about?

Please .. I hope no one takes the above comment as anything more than what it is meant to be. I'm just wondering which stereotype warrants the "N word" being brought into the conversation.

As for the topic, Kanye has done this several times before, he'll do it again. Because the awards shows keep allowing him to do it. They probably even provided the booze. Seriously. Of all the people around that stage, not one of them was from security? No one thought it would be a good idea to stop Kanye from reaching the stage?

If I were Taylor Swift, I would have yelled at the top of my lungs "No means NO!!!" then clubbed him my nice shiney award.

The "thug life" stereotype. There's actually a mathematical theory on that:

"Street cred" is directly proportional to how many times you use that word in one conversation.

XD

Seriously though...you should take a walk through my neighborhood. People sling that word around here like its everyones first name.

Yay for Obama!

Obama - son of a single parent who worked his way through Harvard Law School, going into politics, and eventually becoming President, busting stereotypes all along the way... he must just LOVE a*holes like West that keep those stereotypes alive.

blackpearl81 -> RE: Classless - Kanye West (9/15/2009 9:05:17 AM)

You know what the seriously fucked up part is? Kanye may not have even drinking the cognac he had.

Which still doesn't matter. At least that excuse never held water with me, and my ex.

I always said that, if you did/said something while intoxicated, the seed of that act or thought was already there. Therefor, sober and sobbing, begging for forgiveness, gets you shit with me. An asshole drunk is still an asshole sober.

Sunnyfey -> RE: Classless - Kanye West (9/15/2009 9:17:47 AM)

Random side comment. Poor Obama cant even DESERVEDLY call someone a jackass with out people giving him shit for it.

If President Clinton had said something like that we would have laughed, but we expected it from him I suppose.

LaTigresse -> RE: Classless - Kanye West (9/15/2009 9:18:20 AM)

That is ridiculous isn't it.

100% agreed. Alcohol doesn't change people - it simply reduces the internal inhibitions that normally prevent them from acting the way they really are deep inside. If that's who you are when you're drunk, that's who you really are. Guy's a total loser, as far as I'm concerned.

So I guess I really AM a sarcastic, giggly, valley girl at heart?

Ah yes, but if you look at the one right above it, the one where he appears to be swigging from the bottle...you can't tell...so the fact that the top is on the bottle in the other pictures doesn't prove anything other than he put the cap back on

It's too bad she's just a kid, because if she had been a few years older, she might have had the presence of mind and the self-assurance to do something very much like that. Not necessarily clobber him about the head, but at least say something suitably caustic about why the winos aren't out panhandling on the sidewalks where they belong, or something of that nature. But then again, if she hadn't been just a kid, he probably wouldn't have had the balls to do what he did in the first place.

LaTigresse -> RE: Classless - Kanye West (9/15/2009 11:17:26 AM)

Now I wanna see him and Amy Winehouse tangle on stage. Talk about a drunken brawl.
