FullfigRIMAAM1 -> Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/15/2009 10:11:50 PM)

I've been fascianted by the "give me back my country cries", and the (paraphrasing) the psycho crying woman crazed by the fact that the president is going to indoctrinate our kids [to stay in school and do well].

Former President Jimmy Carter states what many have been thinking, but dare not say...
quote:

"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man," Carter said. "I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that share the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African Americans."

Carter continued, "And that racism inclination still exists. And I think it's bubbled up to the surface because of the belief among many white people, not just in the South but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.

What say you?  Thoughts, opinions?!!!    Agree, disagree, outraged, about what exactly...     M

There's never been any doubt in my mind that a lot of this intense rage toward Obama is because so many ignorant rednecked crackers don't believe an uppity Negro has any right to be president. And they're furious about it. Which - being the sadistic prick that I am - makes it all the more fun for me to watch them scream until they turn blue and pass out, the bigoted cocksuckers!

rulemylife -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/15/2009 10:44:20 PM)

I really haven't wanted to believe this because I wanted to believe this country had progressed beyond that point.

But what I have been seeing and hearing lately, the complete irrationality of some of the claims against him makes me start to think there is more to it.

Arrogance -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/15/2009 10:49:53 PM)

Of course race is a part of the equation here, a significant part. It's obvious if you listen to what far too many people are saying...

1) That he's a Muslim. If he were white, this of course wouldn't be an issue.
2) That he wasn't born in America... again, would this come up if he weren't white?
3) That he's a secret terrorist... Noticing a trend yet?

The hatred against him by that sect of the population has so much vitriol and is so intense for a reason... because it's due to a deep-seated resentment for his skin pigment.

DomKen -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/15/2009 10:50:08 PM)

Does anyone really doubt that race isn't behind a lot of the rage?

Sunnyfey -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/15/2009 10:55:17 PM)

HA!!! I always loved Mr.Carter :)

Louve00 -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 4:11:14 AM)

I agree with it completely.  Although we sure have (and will) hear alot of justification of hate to this administration or be against it in any way, shape, or form, for any number of things besides race.  People are racists, but hate to own up to it.  People are prejudiced and will go out of their way to prove they aren't.  The ones most offensive will probably pick on Carter now lol.

Sanity -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 4:21:32 AM)

Libs have been throwing the race card out there for a long time now, Carter's late to the party. "You can't criticize socialism, why - that's racist".

What a load of garbage.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 4:59:08 AM)

In speaking with many people that have an extreme dislike for Obama, I would have to say that race is an issue more times than it is not. Since the election I have identified more people that I have no desire to speak with, including one of my former clients that I fired.

The race card seems valid in many of the minds of some that oppose Obama. Where it is not valid, is using to any that oppose him. The more race is played in a situation, the less valid it seems.

housesub4you -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 5:03:03 AM)

Perhaps you have missed the point, it beyond the "socialism" crap.  It's everything else people have mentioned in this thread.

As for your socialism comment that has been addressed in so many other thread, I guess public schools are socialism and Not one private school can be found in this country because they can't compete with public schools, why there must be no private ambulance services in this country because they can't compete with the public fire department ambulance service  and Hell there must be NO private military groups for hire in this country because how could they compete with our military and make any money??????

Yup when our government provides a service, nothing in the free market can compete

Does it really matter?

If you disagree with Obama and you are a racist you will be called a racist.

If you disagree with Obama and you are not a racist you will still be called a racist.

Does it really matter what is behind the rage?

mnottertail -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 6:39:57 AM)

I don't think there is all that much 'racist rage' although there is a rabid sect. Hell, it coulda been howdy doody elected as a democrat, and they'd'a called him a puppet, or Shirley Temple and they'd'a called her a precocious cunt....just how some of them folks roll......

RacerJim -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 6:56:26 AM)

Thanks to Obama, et al who support him, repeatedly calling anyone/everyone who either didn't vote for him or who opposes any of his policies a racist, I am now a bonafied racist.  Obama et al apparantly never learned that one should be careful what one asks for because sometimes one gets exactly what one asks for.  Congratulations Obama et al - you have racially divided America deeper than ever before.

olena -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 7:01:09 AM)

Race is a catalyst for many but not the main reason for them being against his (democrat ideas) for many. I think President Carter chose his words wisely and in my opinion accurately that the over the top stuff has racial factors into it. I get die hard right wing being against him and would be if he was white. I get that some Democrats being against him over time if they do not like what he did or did not do. But I know of too many people who were not die hard Republican and never voiced major opinion and drama on a candidate be very opinionated and often in the racial overtones. I am already sick of hearing the phrase “that man” come from people’s mouth that never referred to another President that way either Clinton and Bush. While it may sound ok from a person trying to defend “that man” cannot be assumed racist I am sorry but I only ever hear people use “that” and “those” when racist comments come spewing out of them.

To think that race has nothing to do with some of what is going on is just as foolish to think that race has everything to do with what is happening.

StrangerThan -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 7:03:38 AM)

Living in the south, I can honestly say I've never heard anyone refer to him in the way that panda did. Just as honestly, I will say I've seen those types of words more from his supporters. I think Obama supporters desperately want race to be the basis of the attacks against him, almost need race to be the basis for the simple reason that it allows them to dismiss any further debate on whatever topic is being discussed.

Arrogance's bullets btw have more to do with who the man is than with race. The born in America debate raged a few years ago over arnold, when gop rabid mouth foamers saw him as a potential second coming of reagan. And honestly, religion has always played a part in politics. There were many people who were upset at Kennedy being catholic. Both of those folks were noticeably white.

I don't dislike Obama. What I dislike is exactly the same thing I disliked about the Bush years, namely that half of America will defend anything he does because of the D next to his name, and half will attack anything he does because its not a "R".

Politicians are only liars and assholes because we allow them to be based upon our insane desire to belong to one group or another. They only promote and pass legislation that screws the country, a good portion of the electorate because we can't stand each other.

It's not about the man. It's about the party. Dems hate Republicans and vice versa. If Obama wasn't in there and some short Texan was, we'd be making chimp jokes and calling him a liar too.

Out of ideas, need to distract, want to gain sympathy, and of course, further polarize the electorate; bring in Jimmy Carter and have him pull out the race card.

Nine months is a bit early for desperation to set in, but I guess contrary to the those saying otherwise, somebody is scoreboard watching in the Democratic Party. Poll numbers are dropping faster than chicken at a BBQ. Time to use race as the cause. Not the budget, not sending more troops to Afghanistan, not following the same rules as the previous administration regarding our war adversaries, not the highest unemployment numbers in the country in a generation, not the budget gap, not a 10 Trillion minimum guarantee deficit; we're going to bring up race.

Jimmy Carter, as functional now as he was as President.

Irishknight -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 7:47:56 AM)

I never have thought much of Jimmy Carter as a president. The things that defined his term in office were a fake gasoline shortage thought up by oil companies to make the prices go higher and a hostage crisis in Iran that was allowed to go on for far too long. As a president he was a failure.

As an ex-president, he is one of the best. He has shown himself to be a fantastic humanitarian who puts actions to his words. As a humanitarian and a fantastic human being, he deserves no end of applause. That doesn't suddenly mean that his political views are any more valid than when he was screwing up in the Whitehouse.

Everyone who disagrees with Obama is not automatically a racist. That lie was old during the election and its sad to drag its decrepit ass out again. I have disagreed with actions taken by every president we've had in my adult life. I've agreed with some as well. Its the nature of the beast. Just because someone disagrees with something the president does in office is not proof that they are racist, evil, nazis who want to eat our babies.

DomKen -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 8:15:38 AM)

Notice how those who oppose President Carter's statement try and make it 'all' instead of 'some?' I'm still waiting for any of them to address the point he actually made.

As for a claim that no one in the South refers to Obama in the crassest possible way, I don't know where he lives but in the parts of the South I visit on a regular basis, suburban Atlanta and rural NE Alabama, I've heard and seen the worst sorts of racist bile in reference to him.

StrangerThan -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 8:24:12 AM)

Then I wonder what sort of conversations you have.

Because I routinely visit all parts of the south through work, including Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia and have yet to hear any racist bile that did not come from one claiming to be a liberal.

I'm not saying racism does not exist. What I am quite sure of however, is that most racists in this day and age are far too intelligent to sit around and spout such nonsense - especially in the presence of one so ready to pounce. I would think, that of the two of us, since I actually believe in freedom of speech and don't give two shits what someone thinks, I'd be more likely to hear that type of garbage.

Maybe I would if I spent more time standing on streetcorners with placards screaming curses at the other side, but amongst general folk, I haven't.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 8:27:10 AM)

Living in the South, I have to say I have heard those accusations more times than I would like to hear. Living in the south, I have received blatant lies in chain emails that mention these same things. Living in the South I have also been called a racist because I disagree with many of his ideas and did not vote for him.
