Actually, given your posts in another thread, Leiren, I would strongly disagree with that statement. That opinion has nothing, by the way, with any criticism you may have made about Obama.

FR:

At one time, when I was young and naive, I thought that Carter was a principled, highly intelligent leader devoted to human rights.

Those days of naiveté are long gone, I'm afraid.

Here is a short opinion piece by Jonas Goldberg that sums up my current beliefs about him. And this doesn't even include his anti-Semitic book and comments he made in the last year or so.

Jimmy Carter: America basher
May 16, 2002

Whenever I open the newspaper to find an article about Jimmy Carter (or see him on TV) I scream, "Jimmy Carter?! He's history's greatest monster!" Alas, it's not my joke; it comes from an episode of "The Simpsons." Marge fails to make marshmallow treats for the town bake sale, which results in Springfield being unable to afford a statue of Abraham Lincoln. They settle for a bronze President Carter instead. When it's unveiled, someone shouts, "Jimmy Carter!? He's history's greatest monster!" and the town riots.

...

So, yes, it's unfair to say that Jimmy Carter was history's greatest monster. But it's a safe bet that if Carter could shake the hand of history's greatest monster, he'd leap at the opportunity.

Read the whole thing.

This latest "episode" of his does nothing more than cement his position in the pantheon of useful idiots.

There's never been any doubt in my mind that a lot of this intense rage toward Obama is because so many ignorant rednecked crackers don't believe an uppity Negro has any right to be president. And they're furious about it. Which - being the sadistic prick that I am - makes it all the more fun for me to watch them scream until they turn blue and pass out, the bigoted cocksuckers!

That delightful Panda read my mind.

If Carter had just called Joe Wilson a racist that would be one thing. When he makes generalizations about people because he feels they are making generalizations he looks like the oaf he is and has always been since before he left office.

Bingo! Thank you! It wasn't just Joe Wilson that Carter called a racist. He very directly insinuated that ANYONE who disagreed with Obama was / is a racist.

And most of us remember the shame Carter's presidency ended in.

This may be my one and only comment on this thread (which I only opened because I've worked alongside Jimmy Carter at Habitat for Humanity, and -really- respect the man, not as a politician, but as a person... and that respect even survives the times I vehemently disagree with him).

Of -course- it matters... because until we acknowledge -why- we are enraged, there is no hope of an honest dialog about what to do about it... and we'll keep handing each other irrelevancies and pulling out the baseball bats against any viable solutions because our hidden hatred forces us to focus on the hate and not the solution.

Now that Carter and you and some of the others here have played the race card my question is this: Going forward how do you differentiate the opposition to Obama from racism from the opposition to Obama that is not racially motivated? Is there some race baiter's handbook and where can the rest of us obtain it so that we can all be on the same page? ORIGINAL: DomImus

My personal method of telling racism comes from an old medical precept: when you hear hooves, think horses not zebras. In the case of whether something is racist, I first try to see if there's any other reasonable explanation. For example, while I disagree with a whole lot of the criticism of Obama that I've seen here, I have for the most part, assumed that what I saw was not because he was black but because he was blue.

I think it should be noticed that not once in any way has Obama or anyone in any official capacity ever brought charges of racism against anyone who opposed him. It concerns me that there is this "Obama and his supporters" attitude on playing the race card. I would think it far more appropriate to at least give "the devil his due" and say "I may not agree with a damn thing he's doing, but at least he's not yelling about racists".

Obama has stepped forward and flat out said that he disagrees with Carter on his idea that his opponents are playing the race card. Will any of you step forward and either point out where he has done so or at least give him the same courtesy?

12% Say Most Opponents of Obama Health Care Plan Are Racist
Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Twelve percent (12%) of voters nationwide believe that most opponents of President Obama’s health care reform plan are racist. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% of voters disagree, and 21% are not sure.

In recent days, several Democrats have suggested that racism is a factor. The most prominent to make that accusation is former President Jimmy Carter.

Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans reject the notion that most of the opponents are racist. So do 78% of voters not affiliated with either major party. However, just 39% of Democrats share that view. Twenty-two percent (22%) of those in the president’s party say that most of the opposition to his plan comes from racists, and another 39% are not sure.

Obama needs to call an end to liberals playing the race card. It was predictable that any criticism of a POTUS who, because of his inexperience and questionable relationships would have little Teflon, would be met with bs charges of racism.

It was also predictable that they would roll out the worst POTUS in history to backstop the man destined to take over that title.

Remember Herbert Hoover?

What I find interesting is that folks who criticized Bush for legitimate faults were derided as being irrational and/or mentally ill.  The same crew is rabidly against Obama.

MarsBonfire -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 6:36:39 PM)

Yeah, how can people possibly think that GOP is in any way racist, when:

Limbaugh plays on his show, (over and over) a song entitled: "Barrack the Magic Negro"

That a republican mayor of a town in the Southwest distributes a photo of the White House with a feild of watermelons replacing the lawn...

That the GOP kept alive the rumor that once in office, Obama was going to paint the White House black...

That a McCain supporter faked a beating of herself, to blame it on a black man who wanted to terrorize her into dropping support for McCain...

That teabaggers carried signs at the 9/12 rally depicting the President of the United States as an African witch doctor, complete with a bone in his nose...

That there were shouts of "Kill Him! Kill Him!" at several republican rallies whenever the name of the POTUS to be was mentioned...

That a teabagger hung an effigy of Obama from his front porch, and then posted a photo of himself smiling at the camera with his handiwork on the web...

Just to name a few...

Yeah, we're all just probably seeing things. Obviously, this is all just about Obama's attempts to push some modest health care reforms through congress.

Does anyone really doubt that race isn't behind a lot of the rage?

Me. I seriously doubt that racism is behind the rage. But it doesn't surprise me that any white person who simply dislikes Obama's policies will be accused of racism.

I expected that to be a standard 'defense' from Obama and other politicians from the day he was elected. I'm not a racist. I do, however, disagree with Obama's leftist politics.

IMHO, Carter exacerbated the situation by screaming racism. Disagreeing with Obama's policies aren't racist. If he were lily white, I'd still disagree with the direction he's taking this country in.

I don't think the majority of the rage is based on racism, but I don't doubt there are asshole racists out there on both sides.

I'm not sure why you made this statement though. Carter played the race card, not Obama, in fact as far as I know he hasn't brought it up. I think all this will do is drive the wedge deeper between the left and right.

Sanity -> RE: Jimmy Carter Calls Bullshit on the Drama... (9/16/2009 7:08:08 PM)

You're right. In fact, Obama is trying to distance himself from Carter's foolishness:

I've been fascianted by the "give me back my country cries", and the (paraphrasing) the psycho crying woman crazed by the fact that the president is going to indoctrinate our kids [to stay in school and do well].

Former President Jimmy Carter states what many have been thinking, but dare not say...
quote:

"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man," Carter said. "I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that share the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African Americans."

Carter continued, "And that racism inclination still exists. And I think it's bubbled up to the surface because of the belief among many white people, not just in the South but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.

What say you?  Thoughts, opinions?!!!    Agree, disagree, outraged, about what exactly...     M

Greetings...

IMO the comments made by the former President, Mr. Jimmy Carter are spot on. However his comments are not accepted by those who do not care to combat the unconquered “demon of racism.” This “demon of racism” is the worst hellish invention that many have adopted as socially acceptable and continue to be acted out for centuries on a global level.

Racism is belief in racial superiority and the belief that people of different races have different qualities and abilities, and that some races are inherently superior or inferior. If animosity could be measured racism perhaps would be found to be the primary contributing factor that has brought about not only wars but racial conflict that only served to divide after perpetrating racial genocide in many instances throughout history. The belief in racial superiority and inferiority is a contributing factor as to why our President Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II has been subjected to embattled controversy and unspeakable dishonor.

The countless attempts throughout history to enslave, oppress, subdue, silence and let us not forget murder ethnic groups has not yet ceased to occur and undoubtedly have overtones of racism at the foundation of such ideologies. However even though the “demon of racism” has reared its ugly hydra head it for sure will not just “bite the heel” of the highest office of Presidency in the United States of America without being somehow thrust back into the horrid place from whence it originated even if just for such a time as this.

When it comes to the President Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II he is without a doubt being treated in a disrespectful manner due to the “demon of racism.” Keep in mind the “demon of racism” is capable of being perpetrated upon whomever by anyone regardless of their ethnicity. Many disagree that race is the main factor as to why the President Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II has been treated with disdain and dishonor.

The mathematical equation of 1+1 =2 remains fixed. This fixed equation will never change. Similarly nor will the fact that when a non-white leader is treated as has been treated of late without a doubt the same factoring that is fixed and always is the answer will arise as the answer if it is liked or not. Thinking out of the box indeed with be required to overcome the racial battleaxe aimed at the Office of Presidency of the United States of America and namely our President Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II.

Factually speaking Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II is the 44th president of the United States of America and we the people, all the people including the right wing republicans and others who might personally believe otherwise need to give The President of the Untied States of America, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II what is due him. Unquestionable honor and our total unified support. Personally my sentiments are God bless America, our troops, and last but not least The President of the Untied States of America, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II and his beloved family. If I were president, which will never be, but if I were, I would expect no less than what is due. "Unquestionable honor and our total unified support."

I wish you well,
~Zevar~

As much as it may surprise you, Sanity, many of us do from time to time disagree with Obama. If we were really a racist Country, Obama would not have been elected in the first place. Maybe the claim could be made is he had lost the election, but not now. I think the blacks in the US make up about 20% of the population. All of those racist whites elected him...

Greetings Sanity:

IMO None of us "common folk" in otherwords taxpayers will REALLY “know” what the President “thinks.” Then there is the "editing" of that which will serve to support the political agenda at hand by Spokesman or Spokeswoman.

quote:

President Barack Obama's spokesman publicly disagreed with former President Jimmy Carter on Wednesday over Carter's contention that some conservative opposition to Obama is based on race. The president does not think it is based on the color of his skin," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters.

Regardless of there reported view of the President and what “He thinks” that does not omit the "demon of racism" as the perpetrator in the disrespectful way the President was treated.

There are some "demons" that are less worthy of fighting publicly while others are fought privately in order to execute a successful defeat of their opposition and animosities.

Classical dysfunctional dynamics of politics in general.

“ Don’t worry we will just print some more money after we spend everything owed to the taxpayer and social security fund and hell from wherever we say so cause hey we do have lots of ink but not real money, so we‘ll just use all the ink we got and blank paper and call it good minted money, they'll never know, right?”

OR

“Grandma has her face in the bowl of piping hot oatmeal but don’t worry everything is gonna be alright, OK? ”
