So you are retracting your statement: unless you or I magically get a uterus ... we never get to say SHIT about abortion or birth control. ?

No, because that statement was in direct reply to the other gentlemen, not to you.

So your opinion changes, based on who you are talking to about the subject?

"Whats your point ? Surely you are not suggesting white people cant spot or discuss racism ? "

as my nurse is at this moment watching "Hunger" (The Maze story in Ireland), no, I am not suggesting that.

I am suggesting, however, that if bitching rights about racism were shares in a company, no protestant based middle-classed whitefolk would EVER hold controlling shares in such a metaphorical company.

Whereas ANY African based person or Latino in CA or Creole in Louisiana WOULD.

Oh, and before anyone asks?

Far as I'm concerned, in a month or so, something will happen where we have a thread like this on sexism, and then I WILL say (and get roasted for saying) that unless you or I magically get a uterus and can die in childbirth?  we never get to say SHIT about abortion or birth control.

Just thought I'd head that one off at the pass EARLY.

Your ability to state the obvious is impressive, even if slightly flawed. Using your guideline, few of us would be able to have a say on anything.

"So your opinion changes, based on who you are talking to about the subject? "

No, more along the lines of "what".  as in "what you are", "what you present yourself to be".  which is what any selction process, including mating and enforced or rejected racism, is all about.  Semiotics and Memetics.

You present yourself as someone who may or may not be believed when you claim to have impregnated someone.  I don't believe you have, but I don't disbelieve it either.  However if you impregnated one of MY female relatives and they wanted to abort for any reason there is no way in hell, no matter "what" you "really are", that you could stop such a rellie of mine from aborting the product of your semen, no matter what you might imagine.  Thus with you, it's rather moot.

Polite sub, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish, nd yes, I treat you both ENTIRELY differently.  He uses a pic of his own generation (as in self-generated), whereas you employ a shit character from a shit movie.  Coming from both a published media BG and as someone who has very destinct experience in what is said by someone appropriating the work of others even for a casual use, this draws a LARGE destinction between you and politesub, and would do so for anyone who'd ever receive both domestic and foreign royalties from companies auch as WB.

So no,you AIN'T the same, and no, you DON'T deserve to have the same answer or be perceived in the same way.  Like a blogger versus an actual author.

"Your ability to state the obvious is impressive, even if slightly flawed. Using your guideline, few of us would be able to have a say on anything."

Yes, absolutely, and I'll add fodder for you and FirmKY since you both LOVE the tug and tussle and that's why you are both here.

If you are Austrian in your lineage, you can talk smack about the Austro-Hungarian Empire and what that culturally led to and could even make WILD comments about how that affects - eventually, down the line - the Gubernatorial maintenance of CA.

I cannot.  Or if I want to, what I say will be worth 2% at most of what YOu say.

You appear to be of my Father's Generation.  My words about that generation mean SHIT ALL compared to yours.

If you have been an advertising exec, and have used the work of someone like myself before, then the math changes slightly (RE Pari passu).  I have a bit more parity RE my opinion with yours on subjects of manipulating psychological reactions through images, words, fonts, sounds, scents, etc., but your opinion in such a case will still outweigh mine.

If you, I and Firm discussed military endeavors, and if none of us SERVED in the military, and Loki 45 (who stated he had served, or at least worked for the military) said we were all completely wrong, we would have to weather that.  Our taxes paying his military wage and the budget for his training and equipment would never be equal to the stuff he'd GO through in that training much less the simple physical RISKS of being called up not just for this war, but (depending on his age) the previous one.

And yes, it is rather stating the obvious.

So was the need to not let parasitic scumsucking bad-mortgage pimps have the rule of the roost but - albeit being obvious - it wasn't acknowledged.

I understand what you are saying (the whole post), and dont totally disagree. The reasons I dont fully agree are as follows, using the above as an example. If we were talking about things affecting your fathers generation, I would imagine you had spoken to him on various aspects during your life, and also seen for yourself how life had treated him. To me, that in itself gives your viewpoint validation, the same as it would on any topic. True, it may not be to the same extent as my knowledge, but even in the same generation, unless you have exactly the same upbringing, viewpoints would vary.

As for the pic I use, I confess it isnt me, its Brad Pitt, I would have thought THAT was obvious. [;)]

LOL, you've been misrepresenting yourself to get us all in your clutches I see, with the alluring hot cup of coffee and all.
((Bad Boy!)))   Now go to my room!

On a serious note HatesParisHilton,
it is entirely possible for humans to learn about and feel for another's circumstances, despite not being directly/personally involved.   Many people have some level of empathy, in addition to being intellectuals.
I believe most people are capable of marrying thoughts/emotions, if they are reasonably well balanced.   While singular egos may say "I'm out to protect me from the others", a more evolved person realizes there are no others, even if they look differently from myself.
Just because I haven't personally experienced something, does not mean I cannot feel for the person experiencing it...  Not the same, to be sure, but I identify with the person just the same, as a human being.   M

You present a very interesting philosophical construct, HPH. Let me, in turn present another:

You don't have to be a cow to recognize bullshit.

Just something to think over for a bit.

"You don't have to be a cow to recognize bullshit.

Just something to think over for a bit. "

1:  It's not interesting, it's a chestnut used by folks struggling to get into the WGA (West or East, doesn't matter) and seen on Done Deal as far back as 2001.  In fact, it's very similar to "All hat, no cattle" comments by the Texan Legal Tapeworm first seen tussling with Alan on Boston Legal, whom (like your line above) is merely "Straw Man" in purpose; he's set up to be knocked down or to buy time for any reason.

Or more importantly for a character such as Alan to wither him with the obvious reposte:

"That metaphor *would* be lovely, except for the fact you, as the human so obviously cognizant of the stench of bullshit, like the cow or the bull you so blithely mention, are not able to SUFFER the LIFELONG scar of the branding iron on your OWN BUTT, as the cow or bull with, at the hand of you the human stating that because you can smell the same shit - or burning buttflesh from the branding iron - and thus are somehow able to enjoy a sense of parity with said bovine on any level.

And RACISM, sir, despite your ten gallon hat and no matter HOW proudly you wear it, is decided by the SCARS suffered, and if you care to contiue to dispute this after making your bull and cow analogy in such a humourous manner, why not ask the African American members of the Kangaroo Court known as the Internet if any of THEIR ancestors where branded, and like bulls, forced to use their seed as breeding stock just as four-legged bulls were, and then ask them if THEY think your nose is as finely attuned to the stench of racism bullshit as THEIRS is?

Or the equally vile stench of the PSEUDO liberal, probably sucking the cock of a WGA dignitary?

Oh, my apologies, sir, I see your hackles rise as your blackberry informs you that your potential agent as just received word from the suck ass Reader charged with skimming your spec you wish seen by the William Morris Shils on the Tracking Boards, and as we know since you are a paralegal seeking to use your Tortfeasance-settlement background to gain a backdoor into a screenwriting career like so many before you, your time is obviously DEFERRED money...

So,

in closing,

Until YOUR butt can have a brandscar against your will?  YOU CAN'T.  Just as your tired cliche - as old as the Bones of Rod Serling - can't stand up and receive any applause from any member of the WGA, either branch, situated on EITHER coast."

Now, for those playing along?  "Spinner of Tales" implies a would-be writer.

The suit implies "legal background".

Many legal "suits" have fancied themselves screenwriters for either TV or cinema.

Spinner also seems to avoide the WGA sin of "too much black" and adhere to the Heavenly Virtue" of the 4-line Rule.

So, I think it's a fair bet he'll not fail to understand this post, nor go with the hack-ass reply of  "where were you coming from with that screenwriting stuff?".

Besides...

I intend to give Spinner a good debate.

about the WGA and the DGA and IATSE and Tracking Boards.

See, as I am sure Spinner knows, with THOSE guys?

Oh, babydolls, THERE'S some REAL prejudice and bigotry.

And since it's about "what you do" versus "your colour", and applies to a Pagan ex- Irish Catholic as much as an atheist Cristian or Jew, black or white, it would actually APPLY to Spinner.  UNLIKE this stuff, on this thread, right here.

You game, Spinner?
