No doubt, Master Orion. I wasnt excusing his actions... just offering a possible explanation for him feeling he has the right. But it is a right we all have, and the NFL has the right not to listen to him, or any of us. Sharpton is simply a man who voiced his opinion. How the NFL decides to handle it is their business. I find it sorta odd that this made the news at all.

Whoa. You sure do under estimate people. If someone is a crappy owner, then they will having crappy personel, crappy fans, and soon the crappiness will force them to get rid of the team or dissolve it. It wouldn't destroy the league. The NFL should be forced to run like any other business, if they are a for profit business. If they are a non-profit then they should fall under the rules and regs for that. I do not see a violation here. Now I say make the sale, then when dickwad opens his mouth and makes a comment that is damaging to the NFL, you start fining him, and eventually run him out. Due process should be followed in all facets of everything we do.

There is no other way to run a sports leage. The individual teams are worthless without the central organization. It isn't like a McDonalds where the hamburgers they sell has nothing to do with the hamburgers another McDonalds sells. In this case, the league as a whole is more important than any single team. To change that would destroy the league, just as it would any major league sports team.

You know, that is a fine idea!  And we've all seen that Commissioner Goodell is not afraid of fining, suspending, firing anyone, no matter how big of a name they have, if they break the rules.

But also, just like the good ol' store sign says "We have the right to refuse service to anyone."  He runs the NFL, his store, if he doesn't want Tubby McOxycontin buying a candybar from him, he doesn't have to sell him one.

As far as lawsuits go, sure, Rush has a lot of money and could take it to court, but, let's be honest here.  It's the NFL.  They bring in every week what Rush has amassed in his lifetime, and then some.  Surely he can't be so stupid as to try an... oh... wait.  I forgot who I'm talking about here. >.<  Seriously though, they've blocked sales before, and I'm sure they'll do it again.  And guess what.  No one has brought up a lawsuit, because, as far as I'm aware, when entering into the deal part of it with the nfl, one has to sign a waiver of sorts, acknowledging that if they are voted down by the Owners Association, well, tough shit, go home.  If you don't like it and don't want to play by the rules and sign that at the start of the dealings, again, tough shit, go home.

Also, kind of hard to run a team when players have already flat out said they would refuse to play on it or even play against it if he owned them.  I mean, I suppose two place kickers and a running back could still beat the Raiders or Lions, but, otherwise, he's going to need a lot more than that to make a team.

How do you liberals in here know so much about the guy if you don't listen to him?

I don't listen to him, as such, but I hear the mealymouthed bastard 15 or 20 hours a week. I work from home, and my retired neighbor has Rush blaring on his radio all the time he's out working in his yard. I just sit at my computer hearing that idiotic bullshit running non-stop, and occasionally googling immigration policies for New Zealand and Costa Rica.

Wow, and I thought I had it bad because the kids across the street occasionally play loud music in the front yard. I guess I should be thankful they aren't rush addicts.

I listen to Rush now and again, I also listen to Savage, Malsberg and several other AM radio pundits. I don't view them as foolish because I haven't heard what they have to say. I view them as foolish because I have.

I guess, despite the insistance of some of our more right leaning brethren, the NFL found Rush's baggage to be too much.......here's where I tell Servant...."told ya so"

Lucylastic -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 6:37:31 PM)

Well Mike apparently its the fault of lefties, from Rikgirls link

""This is not about the NFL, it's not about the St. Louis Rams, it's not about me," Limbaugh said. "This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative. "Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we're going to have.""waaaaaaah Rush just WAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

tazzygirl -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 6:51:09 PM)

Rush can spout out all of that bullshit he wants, the truth of the matter is that any meeting of NFL owners would have a higher percentage of conservatives than what is present in the general pop.....it's not being a conservative that makes him unappealing ....it's the fact that he is polarizing...and that is ,IMO a concious self serving decision on his part....there's big money in being Rush.
Just not an NFL franchise......life's a bitch.

Lucylastic -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:02:43 PM)

I just have a visual of him in his diaper, throwing a wobbly ..I want I want I want..... and just being able to soundly slap him.

Ok that was a troublesome visual, I apologise
gonna go bleach my brain now

tazzygirl -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:05:20 PM)

Of course the decision was partly political, partly financial.  Imagine the calls for boycotts of the NFL games, especially any that the Rams may have played.

Its a business.  I believe the Bobby G made the only call he could have in light of everything i have heard from the sports networks.

Bullshit, popeye. He'll piss and moan about fair and balanced coverage--by which he means coverage that's balanced his way.

And look at the rash of conservative talk shows, news media--not to mention the running screaming about "liberal media."

To the OP---

It's irrelevant. Limbaugh doesn't have the cash for a truly serious bid.

It's a publicity stunt.

And yes, so is Sharpton's objection.

mnottertail -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:40:14 PM)

so, sharptons comment was superflouous, and this thread decidedly so.

Bottom line, thanks guys for wasting my life. I was working on the birth certificate thing, something of real importance.

Ron

slvemike4u -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:44:25 PM)

Come on Ron,it's been entertaining.....Sharpton and Limbaugh in one thread....are you kidding me,it don't get no better than this.

mnottertail -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:48:02 PM)

Well, admittedly, if they could have served up some yellow cake at the announcement, and obligatory photo op.....and btw, where was gingrich in all this, ain't he and sharpton asshole buddies now?

Oh, how the mighty neo-cons have fallen!!!!!!

Hesus Christ!!!!!

tazzygirl -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:52:55 PM)

mnottertail -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/14/2009 7:53:34 PM)
