Actually there are Kamikaze veterans, here's a documentary with interviews from surviving Kamikaze pilots: http://www.edgewoodpictures.com/wingsofdefeat/

well, they must not have been trained to perfection, if they didn't get the job done, looks like we need a little train the trainer session, here, folks.

Sounds far more political than religious, dont ya think?

We were quite possibly the first country where those two words aren't synonymous.

Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

And we're just as crazy as they are....

The girl has three siblings, ranging in age from 13 to 16, the police chief said. "They are still in the home," he said. "There is no reason to remove them. There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see."

The parents in that case seem to be quite childlike in their attitudes and it needed someone in that family to play the adult. Now at some point they’ll probably duck their responsibilities arguing she is at peace or that god wanted her. Some day the harsh reality may dawn on them.

Truly tragic, definitely at the extreme end of the scale regarding religious ignorance.

There are Christians who believe that:
Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

This is the kind of thing that really pisses me off and why I think the thread title is very appropriate.

Not only do they let their "faith" cause their daughter's death from an easily manageable condition, but then they are totally unapologetic and still clinging to superstitious nonsense:

The mother believes the girl could still be resurrected, the police chief said.

This reminds me of a story. I repeat it without taking sides on the existence or non existence of God.

A man is on a ship that sinks. He finds himself clinging to a piece of wreckage and prays fervently.

"God," he prays, "I believe in you. I believe you are going to save me. I will show my faith by waiting for you to rescue me."

While he is praying, a lifeboat passes by. The passengers in the lifeboat call to him to join them, but he refuses. "If God wants to save me, he will save me" he says and goes back to praying.

Then a fishing boat comes by and offers to take him out of the water. Still the man refuses, saying if God wants him saved, he will save him. The ship goes on and he continues praying.

Then a helicopter comes along. They drop a rope but he won't take it. If God wants me saved, he tells them, God will save me. The helicopter goes off and he keeps praying.

Eventually he can't hold on to the wreckage any longer. He slips under the water and drowns. As soon as he finds himself in heaven, he hunts up God to ask him one question.

"God," he asks plaintively, "I believed in you so much. I believed you would save me. Why did you let me die?"

"What do you mean, let you die?" God responds, "I sent you a lifeboat, I sent you a fishing boat, I sent you a helicopter. What did you want, schmuck?"

It is from a Fantasy series of novels but cannot remember the name. I often tell a similar story.

training? simple.

strap this on, flick this switch, hold your hands firmly on the wheel at 10 and 2 oclock, and hit the gas.

Jeez, Ron, I hate to jump on you, but that's really dangerous advice. The recommended position now is 9-3, not 10-2, because if the airbag deploys, it could injure a driver who's holding the wheel at 10-2. If one of these suicide bombers follows your advice, and the airbag accidentally deploys, he could easily suffer a broken arm. Please be more careful in the future!

Unless the PBS special on American daylight bombing crews during WWII was wrong Kamikaze pilots had a better chance of survival then B-17 flight crews. Granted I believe it was over the 25-flight requirement.

Thanks, guys; it was a fantastic one. Still is, actually. They get better every year!

Or maybe it's just that I can no longer remember any further back than the last 2 or 3.... hmm....

Ah, hell, either way I suppose it all works out the same.

And it is hate filled people that refuse to realize it is not God or faith that is the problem in cases like this but the people involved. They are mentally unstable and if they had not grabbed onto religion they would have chosen something else to justify their fear.

Butch

See it is easy to generalize.

That statement's wrong except for the God part because Yahweh certainly isn't responsible for that mess on account of his being imaginary. While there are people who are just plain crazy and if the voices in their heads weren't angels and demons they would just be something else, maybe aliens anal probing them. Dale and Leilani Neumann don't neatly fit into that category, they haven't been found mentally ill and they aren't the only ones doing this. There are forms of Christianity as well as other religions where the leaders of said faiths convince people to withhold medical care from their children, here's another example: Faith-Healing Parents Charged in Baby's Death Many of these people aren't crazy and could probably have turned out completely normal if they hadn't received brainwashing every Sunday since they were children.

You know them no better than I do...or is this not true? To me their actions are not that of normal adjusted people. The vast vast vast vast vast majority...In fact all but a very very very few of the religious are normal well-adjusted people. The few that are not would be nuts even if there were no religion or God.

I believe you are wrong to blame all religions for their abhorrent actions. In fact doing so is the same as saying because one African American raped a woman…all African Americans are rapists.

Crazy? Perhaps not, but certainly not using any common sense.

And I would point out that blaming Sunday services for the actions of these idiots is taking this a little far. Many of us have attended services since childhood. And many of those who believe exclusively in faith healing never saw the inside of a church as children.

Fast Reply without reading the responses of others.

OP, so nice of you to believe such a thing. Science and Spirituality coexist within this frame. I am not even offended, if that is what you were attempting to do.

Instead I sense bitterness.

You are allowed to believe what you do. As I am allowed to believe what I do.

Now.....

we can either bicker endlessly over the fact of god's existence or nonexistence or we can solve some problems using what we have so we may 'go forth and plague the universe'.

Humanity, faith or no faith, belief or no belief is a plague in of itself that will undoubtedly wipe itself clean from the earth if we do not change our ways as a whole.

This earth is trashed. Let us get up off of our asses and do something about it.

Solar Cook-Out....
admission is a bag of trash one has picked up off of the highway.

anyone? No?

:P

Lighten up, for the sake of science at least.

ah I was going to sleep, holly but I agree with this....

I went to sunday school twice in my life. The second time I was banned from the services for asking 'far too many questions that must have been channeled by Satan.' It was a very strict and orthodox church but still....

c'mon.

Satan?

If not faith-healing think Placebo effect.

I would love to see one passage... any passage... that says we are not supposed to seek medical attention.  I can find many that encourage the use of medicines, oils and such... and a particular famous one that speaks of treating your body like a temple... but i have never found one that says to avoid medical treatment.

can anyone find one?
