Well no shit.

Thankfully, we had people in power who understand this and only go to war as a last result.

Exactly my point. If you take away the sexual assault (because really, that can and does happen no matter where you live, work, or whatever) then the 'horrors' they are experiencing are not only no harder than what the men face, but now they are bitching about it after jumping up and down and screaming that they should be allowed to go into combat because "they can do everything a man can."

Sheesh.

I saw another story on CNN about a former female soldier who said she had PTSD and had all sorts of problems now that she's out. But her 'big' defining PTSD-inducing moment was that a van pulled up next to her convoy and men opened the doors and (brace yourself) yelled at her.

I mean seriously? Some guys in a van yell at her and *that* gives her PTSD? In a place where men are gunned down by snipers, choppers shot down by RPGs, roadside bombs that go off and level an entire convoy.......and men "yelling" at her gives her PTSD?

Loki...damn right the yelling can be a trigger. PTSD can be triggered by the things you least expect. Do you think a VietNam vet needs to hear gunfire to have a flashback?

You misunderstand. The yelling didn't cause the girl in the article to have a flashback. That was the event "over there" that supposedly GAVE her PTSD to begin with. She wasn't in combat. She wasn't attacked. Her best friend didn't die in her arms, she didn't have half her convoy wiped out by a roadside bomb. Guys yelled at her and now that's she's back home, she can't function.

Hell, I got "yelled at" in basic training. Didn't phase me a bit.

PTSD does not have to involve gunfire and bloodshed.

It involved trauma.

It is not the place of anyone to say what qualifies as traumatic for anyone other than ourselves.

Seriously? You think yelling is a PTSD qualifier? If that's the case, we need to bring home all the girls from the military. Because if yelling at them is enough to ruin them, basic training is ruining them by the dozens every 6 weeks or so.

I know someone who was repeatedly and seriously abused as a child.  Her PTSD can be triggered by damn near anything, such as garages, the word "electrician", back yards, and of course yelling as well.

I wonder how much money it cost to come to this amazing conclusion.

Probably far less than it did to train them and send them all over there only to be 'traumatized' by 'yelling.'

I've gotten yelled at walking past constructions sites, can I claim PTSD now?

WTF?  We should do this for all females because of the responses of one of them?  You sound like one of the male subs who whine about all Dommes being rude, or moneygrubbers, or about some other perceived slight.

Yeah, if I claimed PTSD everytime I got yelled at, I'd have to be in a rubber room, rocking back and forth now.

i am not comfortable arguing this point on a story i know nothing about. Can you post a link?

But...the "bring the girls home" shit is really rather insulting.

A van of men pulled up and opened the door and began to scream at her. For heavens sake, i would have peed my pants!! I am defenseless against a van full of men.

It was a trigger. What happened to her...what was the flashback?

Actually, I sound like a misogynistic asshole who doesn't think that women belong anywhere near combat and am using this as an example of why.

If you're going to extrapolate about me and my motives, at least get it right.

So is the notion of PTSD for being yelled at. Our boys over there experience 100 times worse than being "yelled at" and when they get back, they are treated like shit. Or made to feel badly because of the REAL trauma they experienced. I see the girl in this story as the equivelent of a woman who falsely cries rape. Much as a false accuser makes it tougher on every woman who really is raped, women like the one in that story, to me, belittle the people who really go through fucked up shit over there and come back worse for it.

Maybe, but she was in an armed convoy, which greatly out-numbered the shouting men.

You're still mis-reading. The van thing wasn't the trigger. It was the the "traumatic event" that supposedly gave her PTSD.

I didn't.  I said you sounded like.  I did not speculate on what your motives were.  I'm not the one who didn't get it right, Loki.
