They are doing a one on Jesus I hear.

Should be interesting. I'd probably prefer it the hands of Penn & Teller for a Bullshit! episode, but it would probably get wider circulation via Mythbusters.

There's a semi-amusing spoof http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9izVu_TtAE

Yeah.. it was probably the Girl Scouts who called the land owner and threatened him.

Good point and if they really were worried about the threats, why did they put it back up somewhere else? How ever if it was true, then I agree that is not the way "christians" are supposed to act. Unfortunately there are assholes in every group.

Because the land where it was originally did NOT belong to Lamar.  And the threats were against the land/land owner.  Lamar moved the billboard onto land that THEY owned.

thanks I missed that part.

Occam's Razor.

No offense, but I am as tired of seeing this brought up on here as fact as I am of seeing the Bible brought up as fact.

Which is an odd comparison, seeing as one is a method by which to interpret the likelihood of facts and the the other is, presumably, a collection of them.

But you're tired of both, and that alone if logical enough reason for them both to be discounted just as easily.

I wish that worked with music. We'd be free of boy bands, then.

FR:

The entire incident reeks to me.

Some comments:

1.  I see it just as likely that no "Christians" made any threats to anyone.

2.  I suspect it is just as likely that the "landowner" decided he/she didn't like the sign (for whatever reason), and wanted it gone.  The "threats" sound like a good justification made up by someone.

3.  What, exactly, are "significant, serious and vicious threats"?  If "they" was "significant" and "serious" and "vicious" in a bodily harm sort of way (which is not a fact in evidence), then this is criminal manner.  Yet, it doesn't seem to have gotten reported to the police.  Interesting.

4.  Despite what some may theorize, this would make a great publicity stunt.  According to my version of Occam's Razor, that is probably what it is - on the part of the Atheist group who paid to have the bill board put up.  After all, if you want to make waves against something you dislike (Christianity, in this case), what better place than Cincinnati, and what better result could you get then "significant, serious and vicious threats" from that group, showing believers to be hypocrites?  Kewl beans.  Perfect proselytizing atheists triple-play dream.

5.  Of course, all of these above thoughts are just based on some assumptions, and "thought models".  What I find most interesting, and what leads me to entertain most of them is the utter lack of hard evidence anywhere in this whole imbroglio, thereby allowing everyone to find confirmation of their own particularly prejudices and biases.

As has been well demonstrated throughout this thread, starting with the OP.

Whether a publicity stunt or a group of supposed christians, I just can't say that either one would surprise me. I've seen firsthand "christian" prejudice against those of different faiths. I've talked with antichristian groups and found most of them to be batshit crazy as well. Both sides are capable of doing this.

When the ones who are supposed to be teaching love and tolerance stop doing things like killing a woman's cat because she happens to be wiccan (happened in NC I believe) then there will always be valid reason for suspicion. I hazard to say that those who called making the threats do not qualify as christians but I bet that some of them refer to themselves that way on Sundays and at church socials. It isn't the church as a whole but the lunatic fringe that causes these feelings from many people.
As for the antichristian, antireligious groups.... how the hell do people come off with a "holier than thou" attitude when they hold nothing holy? People are all entitled to belief or lack thereof as they will. Just because you yell your viewpoint louder does not make it right.

Hey, Ron.

A couple of different things are up:

I've just been busy with life and business.  The economy hasn't slowed up my business much.  In fact, it's actually gotten better.

And perhaps I'm a bit jaded right now, about the entire philosophical/political debate in the US.  I'm pretty much of the mind that the way we are headed is pretty much going to stay that way until we have a couple of major FUBARS.  Then, I think the discussion will get a bit more interesting.

I try to stop by occasionally, but I don't really have time (nor, really, the desire) to get into deep discussions right now.

Or maybe just the right topic hasn't come along, yet.  [:D]

well, glad you're making a buck or two. I suppose if you and me get into too big of arguments when you stop back, I can just sue you for cash, to make it easier to figure out on your balance sheet.

Hey, see you if and when you come around, my best to you and treasure. (FOR NOW(cause I aint mad at you.) LOL)

One other fact that hasnt been mentioned. The old sign was located between two warehouses, and didnt get much visibility. The new site is, i believe, on the road towards the airport, with lots of visibility.

coupled with the fact that no one really was upset by these threats enough to call the police....

ahem...

someone got pissy because it wasnt visible enough... and this was an extremely good excuse to move things to a better location.
