Can people stop using the abbreviation POTUS it sounds like an environmentally friendly car made by Toyota damnit!

...well technically it's an acronym, not an abbreviation......
(brought to you by the Society for Impressive Pedantry.....SIP)

You are correct but I’ve been thinking…
Shouldn't it be TPOTUS? Then there would be no need for the ‘the’ that always precedes POTUS?

TPOTUS is too easily confused with TOTUS.

The point is not that the criminals are caught beforehand. those who are weaker - which happens in a society with governing body to regulate and that there are punishments to deter those who would do harm to others if they could get away with it.

I don't think that is working too well.

Kim

Working out a hell of a lot better than might makes right. The point isn't that the current system is perfect. It's that if humans could be trusted not to hurt each other, societies world-wide wouldn't have all evolved the various systems of government and police forces, regardless of their imperfections.

Unless they had forgotten themselves, by expecting something that was more hindering than helpful to 'protect' them.

Forgotton what? Are you forgetting that not everyone can protect themselves? Under colder systems and without laws to protect, the mentally ill were turned into jesters, daughters traded as currency (still are in certain parts in the world), those who are sick, maimed or simply not as strong are subject to those who happen to be stronger.

What plan do you have to cause these things to not happen?

I doubt you are as stupid as your posts make you out to be. It is done because it is not proper ettiquette. It is a social convention recognized by many. It has as much significance as a handshake, which means as much or as little as someone puts into it. If you were meeting someone for the first time, and you knew that they put a lot of emphasis on a handshake, you would likely give a firm handshake, but not overly firm.

Ettiquette is used in diplomacy, something that not many people understand. Whether Obama is being good at diplomacy, has yet to be proven, and bowing in respect as a form of ettiquette shows that he is at least making formal attempts at diplomacy, and improving relations with other countries.

This is just another bash Obama thread, which is fine because there were plenty of just bash Bush topics when he was in office. I am sure this kind of sniping, and the following cheerleading will continue by those that really do not care about substance, such as you are showing in this topic, and another poster derailed in another topic.

I at least applaud you for starting it's own topic.

At least here it is in it's own topic, and not a hijack by someone to derail the OP.

Bowing as a sign of respect has been practiced in many forms, by many cultures. It is not bowing as their servant. Now if he was bending knee to a foreign power, that may be different, and that may be where some people are confused.

Really???

And the Emperor did not bow back...why?

Forgotton what?

To forget one’s self is to under or over estimate one’s abilities/capabilities, enabling an outside force to take over. They’ve forgotten their own truth.

quote:

Are you forgetting that not everyone can protect themselves?

No, nor have I forgotten those who are strong, compassionate, capable, and willing to help those who you mentioned as ‘weaker’. And I am confident that law is not what inspires those people to act.

quote:

What plan do you have to cause these things to not happen?

I’m not even sure I can ‘cause to happen’, never mind “Cause… to not happen”; seems like a contradiction in terms, to me. However, I am aware that I am able to influence; my ‘plan’ is to speak truth, where ever I am able. For now, that is probably all anyone can do.

Laws can’t protect; they aren’t meant to; they are for catching the ‘bad guy’. Also, I would think, another way to rake in a decent amount of money. Where does that money go?

Video - Every other leader in the world shakes hands.

Obama is the lone grasshopper who bows before the almighty emperor of Japan.

Making his tradition a tradition of one, showing not respect but ignorance.

Well that was about as clear as mud.

The law isn't. However, no one acted before. Why do you think it will be different this time around?

Well, you could ask my friend, who is only going to college because of government grants where the money goes.

Laws do protect - the police are catching the bad guy. While the laws on paper can't stop someone from doing something, they make it so that it such things are unacceptable. If you look back, there are countless times when people have been raped, tortured, mistreated, violated in almost every way because they couldn't stand up for themselves and nobody stepped in because they were also afraid.

In a world without some sort of protection, might makes right. Even when there are hundreds and only a few oppressers, fears makes people obedient, to protect their own, will do terrible things to others.

How will this truth you claim to be speaking solve this?

Ron, I'm not against Obama bowing. I think making overmuch of it is a crock of shit, as far as that goes. But jeez, you know the etiquette of bowing. Equals bow equally. Ferchrissake, look at the man. A standing bow is normally 15-30 degrees. Obama practically has his face in the guy's crotch. It's inappropriate. I don't mean that bowing is inappropriate. I mean bowing inappropriately is inappropriate.

That said, the considerable difference in their heights could be a factor here.

When you're bowing and still looking down at the guy, not much of a bow.

But I agree this is just a tempest in a teapot.

How many times do we have to go through this Sanity?

You hijacked one thread with this nonsense then we had another thread about it and now this one.

You and FDD both need to stop listening to so much conservative propaganda and start investigating what is proper etiquette and protocol in foreign countries.

Really?

Has the endless Obama criticism been reduced to the actual angle of his bowing?

This has just become too ridiculous.

Okay, then I'll try again.

Their ability to 'govern' and 'police' themselves.

quote:

However, no one acted before.

No one?

quote:

Why do you think it will be different this time around?

I suspect it will somehow become a necessity toward self, for many.

quote:

Well, you could ask my friend, who is only going to college because of government grants where the money goes.

So, it goes to college grants? Intresting; how would those people go to college if others weren't 'bad'?

quote:

they make it so that it such things are unacceptable.

Why isn't it truth that makes such things unacceptable? If police aren't people, what are they?

quote:

If you look back, there are countless times when people have been raped, tortured, mistreated, violated in almost every way because they couldn't stand up for themselves and nobody stepped in because they were also afraid.

Yes, including some at the hands of those acting as part of goverment.

quote:

In a world without some sort of protection, might makes right.

In a world without truth, some sort of protection is needed; ie... law.

Strength comes in many forms; it isn't always physical strenth, or the person with the bigger weapon that wins 'the battle'.

quote:

Even when there are hundreds and only a few oppressers, fears makes people obedient, to protect their own, will do terrible things to others.

How is this different than what we have with government?

quote:

How will this truth you claim to be speaking solve this?

What would cause man to stop being afraid? Love.

edited to rephrase: let me guess; more mud.

Kim

Rule,
It is ridiculous isn't it?

The only question this raised to me was how, after all those well documented fuck ups caused by Obama's 'advisers'; how is it possible that some adviser set Obama up for this scrutiny?

That was a neutral comment and so is this...

Remember when "Why does Obama, or any candidate, need experience?" These stupid faux pas shouldn't be happening. They serve to distract from more important issues.

This is a "JEEZ! SOMEBODY in the Administration should have know better and advised him!" moment. There seems to have been an inordinate amount of these in the little time that's transpired since January, don't you think?
