Whilst I agree that any picture is better than none at all because the person is trying to say something about themselves by presenting it as part of the first impression. However I do like to know the face of the person I'm dealing with. Don't know wether it is a particularly pagan thang, but I can often get a good idea of the likelyhood of there being a spark of attraction in RL just from a picture of her eyes, even if most of the rest of the face is covered.

Now my question is ..... if you are not going to post a pic of your face, why post a pic at all?

My girlfriend and I run an amateur bondage website. There's lots of picture of her or other people and we get lots of comments that they're great pictures. Almost none shows a face.

If collar had allowed bondage pictures, they would have been in our profiles too.

Is the face really all that is important to you?

Aileen68 -> RE: Porfile Pictures (3/14/2006 5:21:39 AM)

Many only search profiles here that have pics.
Some people want any kind of pic on their profile so that they fall into that category.
Some people are exhibitionists, but just not all that creative.
And some just can't show their face for personal reasons.

I find that I only peruse profiles that have pics when I'm bored.

That's handled by support right?

No, the owners decide what is/isn't allowed. We are just their faithful servants.

And the owners are between a rock and a hard place with the laws currently on the books. Their "no nudity" rule is a reasonable accommodation to those laws, particularly since they aren't making piles of money with which to pay lawyers.

I certainly have to disagree with this - have you ever looked at alt? It seems the ONLY pics males post are of their genitalia (or probably more accurately - other people's genitalia). Blah. As if I wanted to talk to a dick. Have some class.

Haven't you read any of the many comments by women here expressing irritation at guys who send us dick pics as "introductions"?

I think a basic difference between men and women is that if women are looking for a relationship, we're more than happy to wait an appropriate amount of time before seeing the male in question naked.

At least a day. :)

LOL Or so.

I've never "thrown one back" because it wasn't big enough.

I have however turned MANY down for behaving like neanderthals and acting like their dick size would somehow make up for their other shortcomings.

MsIncognito -> RE: Porfile Pictures (3/14/2006 6:13:47 AM)

I see profiles a little differently than most, I think. To me a profile is a way to get across a sense of who one is. That doesn't have to include pictures of any sort - words are a very powerful way to do that. It doesn't matter to me whether the words are original or not. A carefully chosen quotation, some poetry or something that is self-authored yet evocative in some way will get my attention. The profiles with litanies of "I want this" and "This is what I offer" or "This is what you must offer me" are just so pedestrian. I don't have much in my profile right now because I'm not actively seeking anyone on this site but a profile I have on another site has a few pics (the only face pic is the one that I use as my avatar on the boards here, it's sufficiently obscured so that I'm comfortable with posting it) and some words that, for me, are meaningful. What I want is for those words to also capture someone else's interest the way they capture mine. If others think it's silly because there's no laundry list of "I wants" there, that's ok because that's not the type of person I'm looking for anyway.

Exactly. It's easy for people to whine and complain when it's not their assets or personal freedom at stake. It's refreshing to see that someone out there 'gets it'.

MsIncognito -> RE: Profile Pictures (3/14/2006 6:23:47 AM)

I think many people get it. We're guests here and I for one don't expect the site owners to put themselves in personal peril so the rest of us can do as we please. However, I do find it odd that the advertising on the main page is significantly more racey than anything anyone is allowed to post in their profiles. If people upload pics of themselves giving head with a big yellow star obscuring the point of contact will that be allowed on a profile? I dunno, maybe it will. It's the apparent disconnect between standards for user images vs. standards for advertising images that leaves me wondering. It's not such a big deal I lose sleep over it or anything, but it does make me wonder.

I don't. I can't think of anything worse than seeing page after page of cocks serving as forum icons. :)

It's really odd. All I see is a little rectangle with a few words of text in them and you see pictures. It must be a configuration thing.

On the legality, I suspect that the record keeping onus (and that's the problem here) is with the advertiser.

If people submitted "indecent" pictures, CollarMe would have to maintain a file on each picture with a copy of the user's drivers license or other proof of age. If any of the proofs were missing the penalties are enormous.

Do you really want to have to submit your drivers license to be here?

Actually I said I understood the need NOT to show the face. Or even the DESIRE NOT TO for what ever personal reasons.

I was simply refering to the pics that show shoulder to crotch only. And others have given good responses to the reason why. UtopianRanger explained very well as to how he looks at these types of pics.

Is a face really that important to me? Ummmm.... yes.... eventually. Because if i'm gonna have a fantasy about someone i've met .... I wanna be able to put a face to my fantasy. (of course I'm refering to before a meet) Nothing to me is more funnier than someone IMing, E-mailing, Calling, and asking... "Dream about me last night?" And I come back with... I had a nice dream... but not knowing what you might remotely look like.. I dreamed of Sean Connery instead... [:D]

CERCKL -> RE: Porfile Pictures (3/14/2006 7:17:40 AM)

In a way, it's enlightening/amusing to see how they choose to portray themselves...I had a drawing class years ago and one assignment was to draw a self portrait...I drew a pair of pliers...not certain if I was being symbolic or just a sarcastic ass...

I agree with you Mr Warren and with Mod 11. And I'm not trying to refer to more revealing pics like those that have been described... I was refering to uppoer body... not lower... <smiles>

Nope and nor do I wish to wade through page after page of crotch shots that tell me nothing much about the girl to find something worth catching my attention.

Personaly I think the mods do a reasonably good job and don't think the limits are set unreasonably at all!

IronBear -> RE: Porfile Pictures (3/14/2006 8:32:14 AM)

I rather like the no picture profile which states that if you and the profile person hit it off that a tad down the track and into some form of relationship or friendship, pictures may be sent. To me that seems to fit the bill nicely. I used to do that on another site where pics would be swapped via email and no connections to the original site.

Submotive -> RE: Porfile Pictures (3/14/2006 9:11:49 AM)

i posted my picture from the neck down. i wanted to have some anonymity and yet show that i am HWP, particularly because i'm an older sub. It proved helpful.
