So I'm struggling the last couple of days... yes I am.  I even went to the dreaded McD's today.  *hangs head in shame*

I just miss having a big meal... feeling full... And I'm tired.  I go to the gym and I can only do like 30 minutes now.  *Sigh.  Unless I"m in spin class then I have to keep my image up.

I've last a bunch of weight, but I feel like something is sneaking up on me.  Any ideas?
Sunny...can it be bordom?

Sunshine you need FAT. Fat burns fat. Not bad fat but good fat. Throw some oliveoil in food you are eating, c You also should make sure you are eating enough protein to help you recover from workouts. Many people forget to do this. Get some whey protein powder and make some shakes or almonds.

Also, its not the big meals you are missing really, its your body may actually be missing something. Are you taking vitamins and supplements? How often are you eating and what, you shouldn't not feel full, when you eat. Also, the ugh thing for me is lol if you feel hungry drink something -- many times our body is saying were are thirsty rather than hungry.

Also, always have protein with carbs you are eating during the day.

I agree w/you, Angel plus Sunny I was thinking the other day when you mentioned being at the gym for 3hrs, you're burning yourself out. You don't NEED to exercise that long. 45minutes to an hour is sufficient. You can even do 30 minutes HI (High Intensity) and be done for the day. Load up on the protein (1g per 1lb body weight minimum), drink a gallon of water a day (not all at once of course).
For the carbs, here's a link for good carbs vs bad carbs.

Or you can follow this formula:...............................

How to Calculate Your Protein Needs:
1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg
2. Weight in kg x 0.8-1.8 gm/kg = protein gm.
Use a lower number if you are in good health and are sedentary (i.e., 0.8). Use a higher number (between 1 and 1.8) if you are under stress, are pregnant, are recovering from an illness, or if you are involved in consistent and intense weight or endurance training.
Example: 154 lb male who is a regular exerciser and lifts weights
154 lbs/2.2 = 70kg
70kg x 1.5 = 105 gm protein/day

since 50g would be close to as much as you can handle at a time, that means 5 or 6 small meals per day.

**Eta, EXACTLY Ron, 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big meals.  It's not as easy as it sounds. You have to be discipled to make these "meals" HEALTHY in additon to numerous**

According to the diabetic counselor we saw earlier this week, when reading food labels you want to pay attention to servings and to fiber content. Don't read carbs or sugar, just buy the highest fiber foods.

Those highest in grain too. People think just because it's whole wheat it's healther. Make sure it's MULTI GRAIN too. I always get 12-grain bread instead of plain whole wheat.
It's pretty good too!

Hi everybody - thank you for the ideas!

I have recently added more protein to my diet, and I think I need to add still more!  I will take the advice and add fat (although that one is really hard!)

Yes, I do think I'm a bit bored - I decided today to switch from so many spinning classes and the EFX to start doing more rowing and some dance classes and strength training classes - I find that doing the EFX gets really lonely. Aunt Fab just joined the gym (YAY!  Go on with your bad self!) and she is lifting weights and honestly putting me to shame.  I picked up a basketball the other day, and that felt really good.  Only shot a few hoops alone, the sound reverberating all through the gym, but I didn't care.  I can still get the ball in the hoop!

I have had a low grade fever for a few days, too, and I can't get enough sleep.  Maybe I was (am?) fighting a bit of a cold.

I just love how motivated I was feeling and how happy and just loving going to the gym - the structure, the friendly people, the feeling of accomplishment.  I don't want it to become drudgery!

I have this awful fear that my hips will be so big that I can't fit into an airplane seat.  And no matter how much weight I lose, I will have really big hips - it's how I'm built.  If I lose weight, at least I can fit in the seat without squishing my body.  Ten hour flights squished in is bad bad bad!

I think I'll go take the doggies for a nice long walk and let them sniff and take our time.  They would like that!  It's so fun to watch them.  The one who is really old (we call him a lump he moves around so rarely)... well he gets outside for the walk and he just runs with glee, his tail wagging, and his ears flapping and he practically dances!  I want to feel like that when I work out.  Usually I do, but the last week, not so much.

Ok... I'm gonna take your advice, and I'm going to go do my thing!  And I might even reward myself with a good cup of caffeinated coffee... or maybe chai spiced tea.  Yum.

Thanks everybody!

WTF?????

Math? This fitness crap involves math??

I was willing to do the sit-ups, walking, treadmill, and even join a gym. I was willing to eat more veggies and protein, to drink lemon water until the bathroom and i were one, to reduce the amount of fat and sodium..but damnit.....this is pushing me too far!!!

ok...*huffpuff*...the rant is over.

There is a downside to counting...be it calories, protein, etc. It can turn obsessive very easily (i am speaking from my experience with eating disorder patients...and applying it very loosely here). Might i suggest counting whatever you need to until you get the general idea of how much is too much/not enough, then let it go? Counting in the long term feeds the mindset of "dieting", as opposed to making a lifestyle change.

You know holly, I find counting kind of soothing.  It's like... "Wow!  Look what I've done!  last week I could only do X!  Now I'm doing X +10"  *Sorry, math.

That's how I do the exercise.  Ok... yesterday I burnt 600 calories.  Today, I want to burn 625.

I feel really accomplished.  And *that* is good!

The truth for me, holly, is that even though I KNOW how much food is healthy, I do this whole mind mess and talk myself out of following a healthy plan.  So weighing and measuring takes the stress off of me, the guilt, etc.  This morning, I didn't measure my oatmeal, nuts, or fruit.  But I almost always do.  Otherwise, what do you mean a whole box of triscuit low fat crackers isn't good?  They are LOW FAT!  (see what I mean?  I'm crazy when it comes to food.  I need the structure)

yeah...i see your point. But i have to tell you i do not have the self-discipline to do what you are doing (and yes Sunny...i an jealous). The most i can do is count reps.
