Seriously, Butch, those meds and posting are not a good mix. NTUY never said that and was responding to Mike's hyperbole.
I have hyperbole?

No. Consequences teach. Death makes one perfect. I hope the punk never walks again, or suffers something to make him remember this experience forever.

Invading someone's home is a real crime and should have real consequences. If the punk has the support of a gang and some money, going to the joint will be pretty easy. I say at least give him a limp. Or shoot his arm off with a hand cannon. Whatever it is, make him know what it means to be prey rather than a predator.

Sorry, but I prefer to solve problems, not manage them. And it is high time.

T
Careful term...your lack of humanity is showing. Now it is not enough to voice support for the homeowner forced to defend his home....it is now necessary to crowe about the possible life long disabilities the kid might suffer with(unless of course job no 1 is accomplished and said kid is dead)."Consequences teach"...."Death makes one perfect"
Try not to work so hard at showing your ass term.....we have all seen enough of it by now.

Someone breaks into my home, I will not give them the chance to sue me for injuries,,,they'll be DRT (dead right there!) I refuse to be a victim in my own home. F--k all of these bleeding hearts. I used to work for the police dept, and most people don't know what really goes on with these stupid young assholes that think the world owes them something. b) the noise wasn't downstairs with he and his safely upstairs. It was coming from the room next to his, down the hall from his 4 year old son's room. Ever tried to quietly wake a sleeping 4 year old at 3:45AM?

I find it very funny that you have all the sympathy in the world for an armed criminal, but can't wrap your mind around the fact that, just maybe, this whole thing was pretty traumatic for Orion and his family. I'm not one to coddle anyone needlessly, but having a "spirited discussion on his actions" via Monday morning quarterbacking is just a bit fucked up, IMO.

Not too sure about me being a bleeding heart... I may...may I say killed enough people to not be called a bleeding heart sad but so. And yes I should have come up with a better way where I didn't have to kill them.

OK..so he thought it was his son...yep lets load a gun in the dark and go check it out....he could have yelled...called the police anything...please lets not go over and over what he did do...and maybe talk what he could have done without rancor.

He went looking to see what the noise was. So drop that first idea.

Now, once he saw it was an intruder, what would you suggest? Quietly back out of the room, hope he wasn't heard, abandon the chance to keep the situation localized to a space that was away from the family he wanted to protect, accept the risk that the guy might move into the living area of the home next and that he might not have a second chance to get as good a drop on him if he turned out to be armed (as he did) with God knows what intentions?

I don't think so.

Orion, I am so sorry your family went through this, but very glad you were able to stand and protect them before they got into area's where your family may have been. I am also sorry about some of what I am seeing on this thread. I won't read it all... don't have the stomach for it tonight.

I had a home invasion when my children were very young. I was tortured all night long, threatened, raped and could not scream because I might have risked my children's lives if they heard and came running and no one was at either house next to me. I have been armed ever since.  Now... I would shoot and ask questions later. No one is getting that close to my family again.

Had those men come in and gotten ahold of a family member, they could have faced off and had some power and done just about anything.

Kudo's for your calm and protecting your family from armed and habitual criminal's and I hope that the hell of this passes quickly. You tried to handle it without shooting and had no choice. I wish your family well!

First I call the cops...who gives a shit if its a false alarm...Yes if I was not seen and had called the police I would have backed away to a place I had the advantage... If I had to shoot I would otherwise I'd wait for the police.

As it was he could have missed .the kid could have shot and disabled him… then who would have protected his wife.

I only say this because you asked what I would do…not to say Orion was wrong.

Butch

Orion, I'm glad that you and your family are safe, if traumatized. Apparently you understand all of the psychological reactions, etc., and you are self-aware enough to make certain that you (and anyone in your family) get help if you need it. Having been in a similar situation, I know that it took me about 3 weeks to stop hearing the "click" and then the follow through...with the inevitable cycle of reliving the situation. It is NEVER an easy or light thing to pull a trigger knowing that great bodily harm or death will result, and to those who think it is, well...goddess forbid that they have to learn the hard way.

Kudos on a situation well-handled, and I will be holding you and your family in my heart as you recover.
