~ FR ~ The bottom line in a situation like this is what's best for you and yours. To expose yourself un-necessarily and get tapped will only result in you being dead and your home and your loved ones left unprotected. I'm not suggesting that it would be better to hide and let them steal you blind, though that's your choice. It wouldn't be mine. But if the noise was, say, in the hallway that my door opened onto, I wouldn't be sticking my head out right away to see what it was, armed or not. Nobody has suggested such a thing, of course, but all the same I think caution deserves at least some passing mention here. If you forget, in that rush of adrenalin, that your first priority is for your family (and secondly, you) to survive, it is all too easy to find yourself in deep shit. I've seen the lands and grooves in the barrel of a 9mm up close from the wrong end, and I can tell you that all kinds of crazy things will run through your mind when you feel your life threatened. Fortunately for all concerned, I just said, "How can I help you?" That's not a comparable situation, of course, but I think the point is clear. Fuck up, and yours can become a comparable situation fast. I'm sure most of you realize this, and I don't mean to belabor the obvious. But there may be people reading this thread who will form ideas from it, and I would hope for caution to be prominent among them. K.
