I have a simple rule, which has proved true in my life -
Ever relationship that ends, is leading me to a better relationship. Part of it is, I'm pretty selective, and every time I'm with a partner who treats me well, and then it has to end, it tends to raise my expecations a bit, so the next one is even a better fit for me.
Yes, I wait a long time between partners - a side effect of that 'super selective' bit - but it's worth it. It really is.

and, no, i wouldn't go back to any of the one's that ended, although a couple of them were fantastic relationship while they lasted, they ended for a reason, and that reason is still going to exist. I know you want to look at it through rose colored glasses and say, 'what if he's grown up and knows i'm the best thing he ever had and, and, and....' but notice, that is you talking, mostly wishing. the reason is still there, even if you wish it wasn't.

If you live in the U.S., and are not normally a thrift store type shopper, can I suggest that a round of goodwills, et al, might lead you to a cheap artifical tree? Yes, a cut tree is vastly superior, and makes the house smell great, but a fake one might beat the socks off of none.

alternatily, if you live within driving distance of anything that can be termed 'country', do a web search and see if there is a christmas tree farm with cut your own near you, many families that cut their own have a tradition of doing it christmas eve day or the day before. And some of those farms might still have precut trees avialable, or be willing to cut one for you if you don't feel up to man handling the job.

then again, if you are willing to spend some serrious bank, call around to the florists and see if they have a live tree left.

Just a few suggestions to handle what I can only imagine would be a crisis of gargantuan proportions. Best of luck, and Merry Christmas.

Well, yes and no... more often than not, what you've stated above is likely the case. However, I have seen people get back together (after learning from their mistakes) and making it work. It can happen.

ive been trying to get a hold of a farmer friend - ill try again today.

im in the UK but we do have fake trees (of course) - it would beat no tree at all, youre right

normally we buy ours on christmas eve, i just cant believe we've run out. so many people have moved down here from the cities, theres not been enough to go around.

and then i thought if all that fails, cos the fake ones are going to be in demand now too! - i could make something pretty with a broad spread branch off a birch tree, spray it silver with some holly and ivy and gltter and fairy lights.
