Wow... never thought of it like that.  You are right, people of color are much much less likely to be using tanning beds!  I wonder if there could even be a constitutional challenge in there.  I don't use them myself bc I don't want the added risks that come with it, but I have to admit around mid january I've certainly contemplated it!

Well, in the one case Nancy can get any elective surgery anytime she wants at no cost to her.

The only time that both houses fill is either when they are rejecting a measure that is beneficial to the american people, or when they are voting a bill in their own self interest.

They're not praying for their country, they're praying against their fellow human beings.

I don't understand how these Christians are so opposed to helping their fellow man. Seems like Christians should be all for the health care bill even if we cannot afford it. Even if it costs them every cent they have aren't they the ones who should be leading the charge to help the poor?

Because the god they pray too is the all mighty dollar

Now although this tax doesn't affect me, I feel compelled to protest funding becoming the burden of the melanin impaired such as my lovely slave beth. Believing and enjoying the natural beauty in people, I don't have her tan; however many people, to the best of my knowledge the majority of them 'white', use tanning beds both for medical reasons (eczema treatment for one) as well as cosmetic reasons at least as legitimate as Nancy Pelosi's Botox.

Sorry you have been misinformed. Even people of.... how do you put it... melanin rich... also develop eczema... a skin condition.. treated by light treatment, such as a tanning bed.

Eczema is a common skin problem in individuals with brown skin including those of Asian, Latino and African descent. It is felt to be the second most common skin disease in African-Americans.
......

Phototherapy or light treatment is an effective treatment for eczema. With phototherapy, various wavelengths of sunlight (UVB, UVA, combined UVA/UVB, UVA1, or narrow-band) are administered in a unit that is similar to a telephone booth but which is lined by fluorescent appearing light bulbs. The type of phototherapy that you will receive will be determined by your dermatologist. It is usually administered twice weekly. Possible side effects of phototherapy are redness, sunburn, or dryness. Long-term side effects, which are more likely with white skin, are possible skin cancers and enhanced aging.

Guess that's why the word "majority" and "tanning" was used huh?

But hey - the rest of the Bill is fantastic and cures all it set out to right? So a prejudicial portion isn't worth the conversation any more than having to exempt one State from the rest of he union when it comes to Medicaid. Nothing should stand in the way of the Obama legacy from being formed by this piece of history being created in Washington.

Stupid? A stupid remark should be easy to discount. Yours are.

High cost, negative impact to Medicare coverage, lower payments to doctors, fines and mandated payment by people currently making a personal decision not to be insured, and all of a sudden a numbers change with millions still outside this promised panacea.

You didn't answer because you couldn't. A tactic that you have to resort to in this case I guess.

As a person with dark skin - I can still feel the prejudicial nature of a tax that doesn't affect me.
I'm not as self centered and closed minded as some.

I guess not having a public option is no longer critical for your support. Your agenda must have been met.

Oh yeah - that's right you're a health care worker. In a few years, once the private health care system is completely bankrupt due to this Bill - you'll be a government worker! You'll be on the bureaucratic gravy train!

Now I understand!

Unless you're playing 1950's Household, any chance that folks could drop terms like 'people of color'?

Makes me think there are still special seats on the damn bus.

BLACK is fine, in oh so many ways.

I found this editorial cartoon in a very left-leaning newspaper, and thought it too true to be funny, but still appropriate.

Couldn't agree more Wood. Isn't it silly to watch people squirm in their desire to be politically correct? I think it indicates not only their lack of confidence in their sentiments but is telling about their prejudice.

BLACK works for me if a distinction is necessary at all. People, persons, individuals; works even better.

I always think of people of color as a phrase to include more than Black people. That said, when I think about it, I basically put all non-White people into that category so I could see that phrase being used too.

Personally, I like people of color and have no problem with anyone using that phrase. If we're taking votes and all

Yet again, you are overlooking something. This tax DOES affect black people. Just because you dont THINK they use this service shows how little you ACTUALLY know.

Again, congrats for your narrow minded thinking.

Gee thanks. We will keep a special place for you too.

I can't help feeling you made my point for me.

You are creating a category by exclusion. Non - white. Might be a few Latins, Asians etc who probably want their own seat at the table.

Probably a spot there for you pink guys too.

I find your response quite, quite puzzling.

I love love love pink, however, I bet your response about me being a "pink" *guy* (of all things! a guy!!) has nothing to do with that, LOL!

I am a Black woman and your post reads (to me) almost as if you assumed that only a White person would ever state that she (or he!) thought that the phrase "people of color" referred to non-Whites (not just Black people).

I have definitely heard the phrase "people of color" for years and years. I just never thought of it as a politically correct term although I get how others could think so.

Anyhow, hopefully, we can agree that you don't like the phrase and that I am fine with it and do not have a preference between being called a person of color or a Black woman.

You have got to be kidding me, Sanity.  I read that paper every day for 5 years, and calling it left-leaning is a joke.

To a certain Liberal, every childish swipe is "cerebral debate".

No, not a cut. I mean literally.

That's why there's got to be a "conservative" version of everything, from Wikipedia to the Bible. Conservatives have for the past few decades moved from an intellectual perspective to blanket dogma. All else is "liberal."

When's the last time conservatives talked about moderates? Only to say they are rhinos--in name only...liberals.

I do mean literally--to conservatives, if it's not conservative, it's liberal.
