*Biting my lips*... because... at least, when you have a nice and tight centralised government (BOOH!!!), there's no argument to be had: a BC is a BC. When you start devoluting... that's when the rats start crawling out of the woodworks. Nation states tend to be hateful and horrible, but there's a lot to be said for a good central government that 'won't take no shit from nobody, goddammit'. Ha.

Ronald, I have the "short" and "long" copies of my birth certificate and of course my Discharge papers (DD-214) from the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard right in my file cabinet.
And why would (I) want to see a copy of Obama's birth certificate?

Status: offline 		and I am pretty much sure the white kenyan or whatever the fuck he is being called this week got a drivers license, a teaching certificate, a high school diploma, a birth certificate and some pictures of him in cuban disco heels and those long pointy collar shirts with an afro, that he thought were really cool in his late teens and early 20s that he is ashamed of now, that he aint going to plaster all over tv either, as a common sort of fuck you, nunya!!!! in his capacity as an american citizen.

Status: offline 		Even from my perspective of a free speech sort of guy and someone who spent a few of my formative years on the receiving end of gov't surveillance and harrassment, I'm ok with this.  The Secret Service has a unique function, and as long as nobody is getting dragged off for "re-education," I think it's completely acceptable for them to investigate such activity.  I just hope they are throwing the net a lot wider than the birthers.

Losing our President to an assassination would be a horrible blow to my country.  I'm sure the pressures of the office will age him heavily, but I want President Obama to go to home to Chicago in 2013 in good health.

It's pretty well documented that he wasn't born in the 'States, after all. Would all the Democrats be whining about a bloody panamanian immigrant running the country and how he isn't an American and shouldn't be President?

Status: offline 		I don't want to imply that the birthers who claim they were visited by law enforecement official are making up anything, (OK, yes I do!) but wouldn't you maybe want to publish the names of the agents? Maybe get in a photo or two? I'd like to think if someone came to "interview" me that I would, at the very least, get the name and badge number of every cop/agent/whatever I allowed into my home. And file a FOIA claim to get a copy of the file they have on me. Without that sort of evidence, their claims of being interviewed are as empty as their claims that barak Obama is not a US citizen.

BTW: GW did not actually "win" the 2000 election - it was decided in court. And I don't say that in any partisan sort of way. Am I the only one who remembers the "hanging chads" from all those half-punched election ballots in Florida? I'm not into the whole "Republicans stole the 200 election" stuff. It was 10 years ago and there's no going back. But please don't say GW won the election. Gore had the popular vote, but by giving him FL the courts gave GW the number of Electoral College delegates needed to become president. And there was the usual chorus afterward to abolish the EC, just as there is after every close race. But that's a whole other issue...

birthers demand proof, corporatists say their word (a cert) is good enough...

Its a fight over "how much" is proof.

If it were up to the corporatists, as far as they are concerned their "word" is proof......

Oh and anyone who knows about law knows that just because a mechanic is certified is hardly any kind of guarantee of performance.

I have known people detained by the SS temporarily (showed up and kept them where they were) while past presidents were passing through town. The reason was inflammatory anti-administration stuff they had written. The SS were polite but firm, and in response to protests, politely pointed out that they don't get second chances, and that those detained would be free to leave as soon as the president was again on his way.
