It sounds far harder than it actually is. Really.

Frankly I would rather buy one myself but then I really like the extra cash from making them...and I get to eat cake! So it all evens out!

And you can make ganache in pretty colors o And make it look smooth on top but like a dripping candle on the sides. And all you friends and family will go Ohhhh and Ahhhhh.
Kind of like chocolate covered strawberries where you take chocolate chips and melt them in the microwave and then dip the strawberries and they look so pretty, but they were easy!

Having baked quite a few successful fancy cakes and batches of cup cakes, I'd say go for the "Viva method" CalifChick suggested. It's visually pleasing and it has all the yumminess of butter cream. If you don't like butter cream frosting, you're crazy. That's all there is to it.

Status: offline 		I'm not even going to mention to you all that I'm using boxed cake mix. I attempted a homemade cake for one of their birthday parties a few years ago and my family made me swear to never do that to them again.

Status: offline 		I'm no baker..I use a boxed mix every time for uniformity and because I pretty much suck when it comes to baking..I am really good at decorating though and given your artictic ability...I think it would be easy for you as well...

Just do the fondant...
