Oh come on, the Christmas ornament thing was funny. It doesn't deny the Holocaust or diminish Miep in anyway.

It could be the context that sucked... it could be that the joke followed an even worse one... I don't give a fuck: it wasn't funny. But let's move on.

A little trivia....
Anne Frank won the Gold Medal in Hide and Seek from 1942 to 1944.
She lost out the following year to a Japanese soldier on the island of Iwo Jima in 1945.

Now I'm always up for some poor taste in humour, but even I draw the line at this particular subject. Its just far too horrific for jokes, although I appreciate that some cant quite deal with it and as with other subjects difficult to deal with some will want to minimise their personal reaction through humour.

Such an approach is ill suited to this area - it is essential that each of us fully comprehend and come face to face with it and further, understand on a deeply personal basis that these were people just like us - the victims, the survivors, those who tried to resist and most importantly the abusers and killers too.

Because it can happen here.

Has nothing to do with being jewish, has to do with basic human decency.

Rest in peace Miep.

I don't want to wish ill on anybody, but if some of the buffoons on this thread had had family members annihiliated, they might not find the subject matter so hilarious either... We shan't ever know *shrug*.

What is it called when a man receives a hand job in public concealed under a coat, jacket or shirt?

You know that I have long been an admirer of your physical form but right now your mind is pissing me off enough to think that you need to be strapped down with your eyes held open (ala Malcom in A Clockwork Orange) and be forced to watch Schinlder’s List twenty times in a row.

I did not have a family member perish in the holocaust. Luckily all my family had immigrated to the U.S.long before this. However, whenever I see a movie on the subject or documentary, I react in my core as if it were me. It could have been me. Those who have perished are like me. Its horrifying.

Miep was honored in Israel as a Righteous Christian.

The irony of Nazis is that they piss me off so much that I want to throttle necks and bash in heads - in other words, they bring out the Nazi in me.

-fr-

I read the Diary of Anne Frank as a young teen. I read it and re-read it several times, and then about 10 years ago I went to Amsterdam for a weekend with a good friend of mine. I wanted to visit Anne Frank's hiding place, and fortunately I was able to go. It was the most profoundly moving experience of my life, bar the death of my beloved grandmother.

As I walked through the museum, listening to the audiotape, I really began to get the first inkling of how she and her friends and family lived. The place is absolutely tiny. There is barely enough room for a small family, never mind the others who joined the Frank family. How Miep and her friends managed to keep these people alive for so many years is awesome. Her bravery and selflessness moved me to tears then, and again this morning when I read the tragic news.

We need more 'quiet heroes' like Miep, like the Frank family, like Otto Schindler. May they all rest in peace, with our love, respect and blessings.
