I'm not Jewish but I find them extremely offensive.

My father served in WWII and his division liberated Dachua. 

I still have his campaign book, which was given to all the soldiers on their discharge, which he always hid from me because of the gruesome pictures taken by Army photographers of emaciated bodies stacked up in the gas chambers.

You didn't but I did in my first post that you responded to. I think that when we can't discuss this without resorting to cussing, pictures of the tortured whose images have been flashed around a million times, and implying that those who disagree with a particular approach aren't "making fucking sure" that it doesn't happen again, then we haven't gotten far enough.

And as a member of the Jewish community, not to discredit anyone's opinion, I don't think we've truly moved on. Not that I particularly blame us as a group for it - we are still missing grandparents at our Passover tables. I just don't think the path to moving on is to continue to rub salt in our wounds.

Edited to add: And, BTW, I am not in any way saying that we shouldn't remember. Only that there is a difference between remembering, reminding and keeping wounds open.

Second paragraph...... Ok so you are "A" member of the Jewish community...That gives you the authority to speak for the Jewish community, as to how THEY have "truly moved on"  interesting. And i feel tasteless fuckin jokes about it DOES rub salt in the wound, NOT the people that are actully opposed to the tasteless jokes.

Those assholes were no joke, just as there has been no joke here. One would hope that they are, equally, a minority.

Agreed, i have several tattoos now, but didn't when i got married in Michigan 26 years ago. i went home for a visit a few years ago, and at the very church i got married in, a few people gave me the "big hairy eyeball" because i must not have "looked" Christian enough for them...

I never attempted to put words in your mouth, say you personally condoned the picture, or mock your cursing. If you feel I did such than I am truly sorry. As you'll note, I never said I thought the jokes were funny either. Only that I don't think they warented name-calling and that such a reaction keeps the wounds open. I did see the part of your post where you said we don't dwell on it.


I disagree. I think the Jewish community has a tendency to do just that. I am not, in any way, attempting to speak for the Jewish community. I have, in fact, repeatedly used the phrase "I think" and "I feel" to show I am speaking only for myself and reflecting my opinions.

I have a great deal of respect for you breathes and your opinions. In this case, I simply and wholeheartedly disagree with you. Which is fine - Judaism has always encouraged lively debate.

We are talking language here, I have to make as much effort to compose some of my posts here (most of you are U.S.ers) as one might if attempting to do so in a totally foreign language at times and often have consulted for advice on terminology from friends and "family" within the US side of this online community.

Once one starts to discuss the WWII "holocaust" of the central European Jewish folk ... LANGUAGE  becomes a large issue ... first off ... this is not "the" (singular) "holocaust" ... there have been many ... and Jews have not been exclusive victims.

"Cussing" is a dialectic. I don't "cuss" (eg : fuck/fucking is a Saxon word ... for ... fuck/fucking and a word in all Gaelic and "English" that ounds lke "cum" ... proves how ancient language influences can be) I don't accept that and I get loads of hypocrites accusing me of such. I speak in my own accent and my own dialect, as well as in my own words. I use a combination of languages commonly known as "English" ...

I will pose this issue before our audience ... that someone should feel the need to express that which I have quoted at all is a clear and irrevocable indication that bigotry exists here and also that understanding of diversity is not even a faculty of some of our "peers"

In the spirit of the genuine compassion and appreciation of human spirit that incepted this thread in the first place ... can't we regular members here promote a little more freedom of speech (even if it's only accepted) and appreciation of diversity ?

In my opinion ... to be an active poster on such a forum and feel the need to defend one's  "normal" language should not happen, that it DOES is a concern that should be taken up by those who attempt to dominate those whom they have no right to. I don't think anyone should be "hiding in lofts" so that pompous bigoted arseholes can live in the pretence of glory.

Let's get back to the core issue of this topic ... human bravery and dignity ... and lets remember that "ones" dynamic is not necessarily that of the next "one".

I'm in no way trying it on as a moderator ... but be sure ... ... ... they'll have to ban me if I can't stand for freedom of speech.

Intimidating people is NOT the way, that should have no place in such a forum as this, let alone on a facility such as C.M.
