You CAN get "muslim is bullshit."  Just so you know.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/13/2010 9:08:29 AM)

Yeah but that's bad English and no self respecting far right organisation would type that[:D]

Rule -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/13/2010 9:09:32 AM)

Some other verbs like does and goes also give no drop suggestions.

Just trying to be helpful here!

You can also get "allah is satan" and "allah is not god."

I am not sure how the google search box suggestions work.

Either that or they read the news a week or two ago where danish police shot a man dead for trying to kill the cartoonist who put a turbaned bomb atop muhammed's head a few years ago.
Or maybe they see how Rushdie(sp) still lives in hiding.
Or read the news a while back when the man who created a TV network to display muslims in a more forgiving light, beheaded his wife.
Dunno. You may be right. It may have been a "moral" decision.

Every faith has it's extremists just like the Christian faith has it's killers of doctors. Perhaps Google should stop giving links with the word 'abortion' in or some crazies might target them?

Is this your logic?

All of you, please CALM DOWN!

http://searchengineland.com/islam-is-blocked-by-google-suggest-bug-32921

It is a bug in google.... you can get the same results by typing just about any first word followed by the characters at the start of the word.  I type collarme and got a few suggestions, then when i added the c, guess what, none of those suggestions had a second word that started with c.  When I typed collarme, I backspaced the e and then typed e-blank to get things like:

collarme password

This feature of presenting suggestions has only been with us for a year <maybe less>.  I've been googling for something like 10 YEARS!  (Likewise for eBay.)  I was an early adopter of both!  Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn for this "feature."

So try

himalayas him

and you get the exact same effect.  If the second word starts with the same letters as the first, you'll OFTEN get no suggeststions.  Censorship would be typing "islam is" (with or w/o quotes) and getting NO results when you hit the enter key.
With quotes (i.e. The phrase "islam is") I get 3 million plus results.  Just one more reason I despise this kinda of "feature."  I'd prefer that google would stop messing with a good thing.

Regards, Lance Hughes (who has a Masters in Comp.Sci - would have received a B.S. in Comp. Sci. but the subject was "too new" for the University to have developed the degree.  My B.S. in Math has a heavy concentration of Computer classes - every one they had - and was awarded in 1971.)

StrangerThan -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/13/2010 9:35:29 AM)

I think you know my logic. If you want to mince words, have at it. But if you want to test your "every" hypothesis, head down south to a back woods snake handling revival and choose one of those suggestions from google to spout at the folk.

When you're done, insert islam is on the same text and do it in front of the muslim extremists.

I been both places. Be willing to bet the worst you'll get down south is thrown out and talked about, and the worst you get in the other place is, well, there's some videos on the web if you want to watch them.

Prove me wrong. I'll then agree wholeheartedly that you have a point that has substance to it, rather than one that is mostly asinine.

A bug, yeah I'll buy that - NOT! (is my eighties upbringing showing?)

More likely this is a case of "Opps, in our attempt to not stir up controversy, we've stirred up controversy."

Nonsense, you are now trying to say some extremists are better than others(?) With no other evidence than your own personal testimony. In both places I'd expect violent confrontation to result. It’s clear that some people that call themselves Christians kill people and I’ll label them extremists to not lump them in with the rest. An extremist is an extremist just like that joke how much does a ton of feathers weigh?

You'll never agree with me, all the proof in the world would be irrelevant to you. I gave up trying to convince people what their ego tells them is right could be wrong years ago.

Thankee Lance, that was looking depressingly suspicious for a while there.

StrangerThan -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/13/2010 2:18:31 PM)

I grew up in the south. Spent 3 years in the middle east.

It's not an ego thing.

Go for it. The irrelvancy at this point is related more to a debate that can go the entire weepy eyed, hand wringing cry for me route than anything even remotely practical.

Are some extremists better than others? Not necessarily so. Some extremists however, are more extreme than others.

It is, that simple.

Silence8 -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/13/2010 7:52:49 PM)

I don't think Google will give you suggestions related to sex or pornography, either, so there's already psychological censorship.

Maybe it's a regional thing, i dunno.

All I know is that when you type in christianity is you get several suggestions in the drop box starting with: christianity is bullshit.

buddhism is produces a top result of: buddhism is not a religion.

Similar results for the others EXCEPT for islam is... which causes the drop box to disappear.

that's what happened when I did it. Not sure why, but it was kinda strange.

JonnieBoy -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/14/2010 12:50:12 AM)

It's a FACT that Google engages in censorship, the money grabbing unprincipled leeches there have openly admitted it. Google kneeled to the Chinese propaganda machine in favour of the payday and millions of people on the planet now get a distorted view through their Google goggles ... and they have openly admitted it.

The searches mentioned HERE sound incredibly accurate (in comparison) to me though ... Lets face it ... most organised religion these days IS bullshit ...

I'm glad that's all ... fuck me, it would have been much more of a fun debate if someone was complaining that the fuckers had come up with the "Islam is the one twue way, put down your whips and chains and kiss my feet" site that Mr B. Laden of "somewhere in the wilderness" is currently working on.

BUT ... if said site were to exist and enough m*****s with enough keyboards with a great deal of time on their hands were to sit there "Googling" it (presumably impossible for religious ones with all those prayers to fit in) often enough ... then, given the way Google actually works, yes, it would come top of the list.

I must say, even I found it surprising to read the earlier post which lends evidence to support the suggestion that ... there might be a majority of US americans who believe that "christianity is bullshit" ...

(Of course ... we'll never really know what the Chinese really think ... now will we ?)

I'm off to imbed millions of "Pirate is worse than Satan" metatags in my web pages now ... after all ... I wouldn't want to be associated with a bunch of "bullshit"ters .... [sm=evil.gif]

Pirate

(for m*****s ... read "monkeys")

Technically, if you want to make that claim then that should be 'Pirate is the worst Satan', given the meaning of the word...[;)]

JonnieBoy -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/14/2010 4:11:39 AM)

Which word ? Which claim ?

Pirate

RCdc -> RE: Censorship at Google? (1/14/2010 5:44:45 AM)

Satan[:)]
Or you could imbed - 'Pirate is worse than Lucifer'.  or 'Pirate is worse than any satan'.
I'd say google it, but then that would just come up 'Satan is....' lam.[>:]  But then does that contradict the op? hmmmm....*thinks...
