This is incorrect. The breakup of AT&T was not responsible for lower costs for consumers. That was the result of competition from non-traditional providers, cable and cellular. AT&T was already selling discounted time to bulk buyers such as the phone card companies and other long distance secondaries.

All the breakup did was massively increase administration costs for the same product.

The proof of that is in the reconsolidation of the 7 RBOC's back into 3 companies, not only not increasing prices but allowing for economies of scale to further reduce them.

Status: offline 		The fact is that monopolies, which are the results of unnecessary mergers that violate anti trust laws, result in higher prices, especially when they are government ran monopolies. AT&T land line phone bills have gone up by almost 50% in the past 5 years and not coincidentally they merged back with southwestern bell, while the prices of all electronic quipment including tv's, cell phones, and computers has come down or at least had added significant capability for the same price, thanks to competition. I'm not really sure what started the price war with verizon, and at&t but it is long overdue. Capitalism works, socialism doesn't!!!

In California now, the liberals are trying to eliminate free parking at shopping centers, and businesses within the city limits everywhere, not just in downtown areas where parking is in high demand. This is just another example of how far liberals are willing to go to take your money, in order to spend it on their personal agenda.

Now I agree that some people need food assistance, and energy bill assistance but only after a thorough investigation confirms it, and they aren't making payments on a $100k home or a new car, while making us pay for their luxuries.

Free cell phones, free internet service, free cable, free or reduced price luxuries including tuition assistance above and beyond the cost of tuition and books, subsidized or free healthcare are all a sure sign of socialism. Basically, socialism is the same as shoplifting. We have to pay more so others can have it for free. I actually saw a commercial one day that said "you have the right to be connected." Bullshit. You have the right to get a job, and pay for your own luxuries by living within your means. I realize healthcare is not a luxury, but you shouldn't get it for free either unless you can't work.

call waiting & voicemail are included. I was a little skeptical
so I Googled it and low and behold he was telling the truth. TAX PAYER MONEY
IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES.
This program was started earlier this year. Enough is enough, the ship is sinking and it's sinking fast. The very foundations that this country was built on
are being shaken. The age old concepts of God, family, and hard work have
flown out the window and are being replaced with "Hope and Change" and

Although he's really better known as a writer for Town Hall than as a professor.

Here's the link to his article where he discussed the grading system in detail.
I have doubts that he ever really instituted the grading system although I am sure he has used the article's concept as proof that socialism is a flawed idea.

From the Safelink website:

so they provide a phone that costs them $9.95 and gets the government to pay for the service.
