A $100 thousand dollar home...for fucks sake where can you buy a house for a$100,000?

Hell you can buy a couple of city blocks of houses in Pontiac for $100k.

Bullshit

http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/Pontiac-Michigan/

Hmmm...

Listings Pontiac MI

Seems to be at least 30 homes on this list ranging from $700 to $6200 with most of em under $2500 each.

Thanks for keeping things honest and all....

Edited to add:
Your own source states that the average listing price in the 48211 zip code is $12,234.

Of the 500 listings less than 20% were under $10,000.
My cite listed the median price of homes in Pontiac as in excess of $60,000.
Nowhere in your cite does it show blocks of houses for sale.

From my cite:
quote:

There are currently 507 resale and new homes in Pontiac on Trulia, including 568 homes in the pre-foreclosure, auction, or bank-owned stages of the foreclosure process. The average listing price for homes for sale in Pontiac MI was $64,298 for the week ending Feb 10, which represents a decrease of 2.7%, or $1,807, compared to the prior week.

So we are still at bullshit plus evidence tampering.

Your original question was where the hell can you buy a house for $100k. Yes I overstated the cheapness of the property by saying city blocks, but there are houses there for sale by owner for $400 and $500, and there are some blocks in that city that are almost all for sale or condemned.

So my original answer still stands. You can buy a house in Pontiac, and still have enough to buy a few more for under $100k.

The fact is that monopolies, which are the results of unnecessary mergers that violate anti trust laws, result in higher prices, especially when they are government ran monopolies... Capitalism works, socialism doesn't!!!

I thought this was kinda amusing.
Anti trust laws were the result of Teddy Roosevelt breaking up the "trusts" or monopolies that developed in the 1890's. Later during the Depression FDR's administration codified most of what we know today as the "antitrust laws".

Yes. The antitrust laws were the result of liberals who were viciously attacked by Republicans because antitrust laws were....Socialist.

But as to the larger point- I agree, monopolies are a terrible thing, and we need strong government regulation to keep them from forming.

No your original answer was bullshit, not only in fact but in response to my original post.
My original post chided cuky for whining about someone making payments on a $100,000 house. My point was and is that anyone who has had a house for more than three years most likely paid quite a bit more than $100,000.

On a side note, considering how cheap some of the houses are in Pontiac, what is the tax picture there? Here property tax is 1% of the purchase price of the house.

Oakland county and the municipalities are kind of wierd about their property taxes. I mean there is the usual based on estimated (fair market) value, square footage etc... but then you get add-ons depending on which district (school and other). So even with the dime a dozen properties, one could be looking at a hefty tax bill twice a year.

Thanks for the clarification of the point you were trying to make, I misunderstood.

The thing I wonder is how does he keep track of all these sock puppets? It'd be nice to see him stage an argument between a couple of them at some point.

Here's what frustrates me about all your bickering:

The original point? The "teacher shows why socialism fails by failing entire class" story? Debunked in 3 posts.

And yet it's just going to pop back up again in a few weeks, because facts don't matter. We're not dealing with logic; we're dealing with human psychology. You can't fight that with facts.

So why are you still trying to?

It's news to me that anybody is. Certainly there's no point in trying to argue rationally with cucky because he's incapable of assimilating any facts that clash with his prejudices. You're dead right about that much.

... son I am disappoint

Look, here's the problem. It's great that you cats have drug in a bird and are having a grand ol' time beating it about on the carpet, but at this point, this place is ankle-deep in blood, birdshit and feathers.

Nobody drug him in, though: he's here of his own free will and frankly, he deserves a lot worse than he gets given his taste for derailing threads.
If keeping a pointless thread like this open stops him from trashing ones that are a bit more constructive, then I'm all for it. It keeps a lot of the blood, birdshit and feathers in here rather than elsewhere, dig?

Ohio.

My guess is that this a fairly recent circumstance.
What do you think the cheapest thing in Silver Lakes is going for at bankruptsy auction?

Come to my suburb of Dayton and you'll find plenty of homes for $100,000.  And that's not recent history - we didn't have a big boom here.
