Status: offline 		Since we have a higher standard of living than the rest of the world, and our labor costs are higher, other countries will benefit more than we do, since we can afford to buy their products so far, but they can't afford to buy ours.

You obviously are not being objective since you are one of the handful of companies who are benefiting as I explained earlier. You don't sell out an entire country so people can outsource jobs overseas or as in the case of a small percentage of businesses who actually do benefit from free trade, while the rest of us become salespeople for the Chinese.

It creates far more jobs to make the product and sell it too, than just selling it.

Use your common sense. I would never sell out my country, so my company could benefit.

Pick up any basic economics text and look up Comparative Advantage.

Further, companies will hire where the cost per unit is lowest. Labor cost is a factor, but so are infrastructure and productivity--i.e., the highest wage is not necessarily the highest cost.

Can't afford our goods? In 2009, we exported $1,377,000,000,000.00 worth of goods.

Only Germany and China exported more (and in Germany, wage rates are higher, while China, obviously, is several times our size).

That would be ludicrous especially since the democrats have prevented us from becoming energy independent by blocking nuclear power plants, and increasing Immigration numbers. Without Oil, Coffee, and Sugar, this country would go nuts.

It seems that people selectively read and comprehend what they want, then ignore the rest. Personally, I think a fair trade agreement would consist of a 10% increasing to 20% tax on anything sold costing over $500. This would only include luxury items, such as fancy washers, dryers, high dollar tv's, and cars made outside of this country. I would even apply it to foreign owned factories on American soil, since technically, they have no right to purchase American soil or be allowed to build plants here. The dealer in that state would collect the taxes for it. The money would go to state government coffers, since if we gave it to the feds, they would only spend it and want more.

If you feed the federal government, it will only get larger and want more.

The same year the Legislature also created the Permanent Fund Dividend Program, retroactive to January 1, 1979, to distribute a portion of the income of the Permanent Fund each year to eligible Alaskans as a dividend payment. By the end of 1982, after a couple years of wrangling with the U.S. Supreme Court over constitutional details, all residents of Alaska - every woman, man and child - who applied for and who were found eligible (must be at least one-year resident) received their first dividend which was $1000. This was the historic beginning of an annual program paying to Alaskan citizens a fair and equal share of the wealth from publicly owned resources.


.....Additionally, the Fund is now so large that it is a major source of loans to the US government via US savings bonds. This would only result in retaliation.

A better version of the idea would be a Value Added Tax as in Europe--like a sales tax, but paid at the production level.

Then scale back income, sales, and property taxes.
