The problem with all of this is that part of the accepted "affirmative action" phenomenon has become the equation of intelligence with human value. Somehow, people are just supposed to automatically be treated as "smart", just for being alive, because it's so closely tied with human worth.
No one likes to be told they are iffy in the intellectual department or are prone to making stupid decisions or are prone to keeping malformed decision-making methods, true. But people treating these studies as some "put down" are missing the forest for the trees. Humans of all intelligence levels still deserve the same freedoms.
Maybe if we didn't treat our species as being entitled to be called smart when we aren't we might actually advance our collective intelligence along a little quicker and a little better. As it is, though, we are rewarding intellectual apathy.
