Am I a conservative...... does the term even mean anything really. In a economic discussion I would be. In a gay rights thread I'd be viewed as a liberal moreso than a conservative. And this is really the point of the study - in general, you came to this non-traditional mix of beliefs due to a higher intelligence which questioned the status quo, not through a dogmatic adherence to the way you were raised.

The problem with both sides of the lib/con debate is a stunning lack of critical thinking at the extremes. This divide between the two beliefs has been structured by the politards as an us vs. them conflict rather than a healthy discussion, so both sides migrate to ever more extreme positions in a futile attempt to "win". Conflicts require foot soldiers, and cannon fodder is usually made up of true believers who aren't bright enough to question their marching orders.

NeedToUseYou's description above represents the typical American. An American who is constantly frustrated by "fringe" choices like Bush vs. Kerry - unthinking moron vs. knee jerk elitist liberal.

I think its accepted that the majority of blacks are liberal

same with homosexuals, the majority leaning to the left

so after reading this article I would have to conclude that black homosexuals are more intelligent than white heterosexuals

something to think about for sure

Status: offline 		Although slightly tangential,  I think that it might be interesting to speculate what might happen in the next 10-20 years, when the children of these atheists are grown adults themselves. Will they be atheists because they were raised in an atheist home, and adopted the values of their parents simply by osmosis (as children of religious homes tend to do)?  Or will the apparent "openness" of their parents to new and novel ideas cause them to come to the conclusion of atheism (or even stray away and become theistic) on their own, independent of their upbringing?

i.e., Are they atheists because they are "more intelligent," or are they atheists because they were raised in an atheist home (in which case this is no different than those who prescribe to the religious tradition in which they were raised)?

Of course atheists have values and impart them to their children.

I don't steal and murder because I'm afraid God or the law are gonna get me. I understand it's for the common good.

Look at how many religious people break with their "values." Hard to believe they really believe in those cases. Start with "no sex before marriage." People cherry pick, then deify them after the fact.

That's not values.
