If indeed someone does have asperger's syndrome, how nice are you for choosing to put them through public ridicule for a condition over which they have no control?

If no one is suffering from this illness, how nice are you for suggesting otherwise?

Troll thread, clear as day.

public ridicule? i'm just being straight up. i noted the symptoms of asperger's, without starting a witch hunt, while also noting that it isn't fair that someone who may have this is being flamed for that condition.

as for no one suffering from this illness: ladyangelika directed us to a thread started by someone who does have it, and i am working my way through it btw. thanks for the link  :)  again, for the umpteenth time, i've been around people with this, and i know how it manifests itself on the outside, but it's cool to get an insider's view of it from someone who has it on a functional level.

and once again, thanks for choosing to ignore the fact that i've been nice to you, several times, and all you did was ignore me in favor of making other people feel like crap. thanks.

If you could just get your breast pictures up, this would all blow over!

And Bob?... it not quite right in the head. Ignore the man behind the beard!

It really is best to ignore him. I rarely say that about a poster but he has a total block when it comes to any view not his own.

I thought bob was sitting this one out with his pop corn.

How loving is it to lie to us? It surely wasn't compassionate!

You know that asking politely with Bob never works...

Watch while I try...

Bob, the OP was trying to have a conversation and did not mean to troll.. ~smiles~ You could actually learn something here... ~smiles~

dreamerdreaming -> RE: asperger's epidemic on collarme? (2/28/2010 7:11:09 PM)

Fast reply before reading the thread (I did read the OP):

Just an FYI, OP: he's off on a big adventure right now so he hasn't been on the boards this week, but one of my favorite posters has Asperger's. Perv pyroaquatic's posts, and you'll see he doesn't really fit that long list of negative symptoms. He's very sweet, and very smart. Never rude- just socially challenged.

Anybody can be rude, you don't need a disorder for that. I am pure as the driven snow, of course.  [:D]

Please listen to camille and Jeffffff about this.  It really, truly is nothing personal.  It's not even because you're female.  It's because you exist.

Nevertheless -- bizarre but true! -- some posters still engage him.  It would be truly ironic if, after he said he would stay off this "obvious troll thread," he remained on it, and other posters cooperated with him to turn it into a war of slime smiles.  Welcome to the CollarChat message boards, in all their, um, glory!

Psykic -> RE: asperger's epidemic on collarme? (2/28/2010 7:11:33 PM)

Oh, I hope that my post did not come off as hostile, by the way. The sarcastic part was mostly to be amusing while making a point. I am very in favor of this discussion, I just wanted to voice some things that I believe are misconceptions.

Also, as I forgot to mention it earlier, I have noticed that there seem to be a much higher rate of aspies in the BDSM community than in the general population. I suspect it is partially because we don't have the same distinctions as neurotypicals about what is normal and what is taboo, and because it allows us to utilize the open-mindedness and creativity that seem to be common traits.

That is "ass purgers", not " aspergers"

Your post has been one of the most intelligent posts on this thread...don't worry.  I, for one, hope you choose to post more often.

Welcome!

Oh, I totally agree. You know what other disorder I have noticed in the scene, male effeminate disorder. Men who suffer from it colloquially refer to it is being "gay". The suicide rate among adult sufferers has gone down in the last few decades, but it is still much higher than the general population, especially among adolescents. Hopefully someday we can get help for all of the people afflicted with this terrible mental illness.

Wait, what's that? Being gay isn't a mental illness, you say? They only have a higher rate of depression and suicide because they live in a society that doesn't understand or accept them?? Well gosh, don't I feel like a bigot for assuming that someone is mentally ill just because their brain is wired differently than mine.

The first two paragraphs there were sarcasm, for anyone who didn't catch that. As someone who has Aspergers Syndrome, has a significant other with Aspergers Sydrome, two close friends with Aspergers Syndrome, and hangs out on the blog of someone with Aspergers Syndrome (where many of those who comment have it as well), I can tell you that it is not an illness any more than being gay is. Aspies tend to get along fantastically well with each other, we just have trouble getting along with neurotypicals (people who aren't aspies/autistics). The only real handicap it seems to cause is an inability to relate to and understand normal people.

By the way, several of the symptoms you listed are things that I have never read/heard before, and have never observed from myself or other Aspies. In fact, only three of those seem remotely accurate. One of which being low self-esteem, which is, as I said before, caused by being an outcast. So really only two out of the eight are things that are actually directly a result of having Aspergers Syndrome. I would like to know what the source of your information is.

Oh, and if you really do think that it is an 'illness', than you need to remember that it is an illness that was had by Einstein, Newton, Ben Franklin, Nikoli Tesla, Mozart, Beethoven, Van Gogh, Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Shakespeare, Bobby Fisher, Thomas Edison, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Mary Curie, Emily Dickenson, and scores of other people who revolutionized their field. At least those are some of the people who are suspected of having Aspergers Syndrome. And they accomplished so much not in spite of having Aspergers Syndrome, but because of it.

obviously i got you riled up, and i can understand why. i worded myself in typical shitty manner, apparently started a topic that people don't want to talk about, and i don't know. i'm sorry. sincerely.

i'm not a bad person, but i do believe that asperger's is an illness. just like my anxiety and depression is an illness. good things have come of those, too, as well as the bad.

as far as how i worded myself in the op: i was referring to people with asperger's who don't know that they have it; specifically, people who are on the more severe end of the spectrum. in my list up there, i wasn't making a rush to judgment or anything, but going by the people i was an aide for; these are people who bite (and break skin) when someone accidentally brush against them, who can't function in public to the point of me panicking and thinking that they've gone catatonic, and do hold deep obsessions.

i know i'm rationalizing, but i am sorry that i offended you and anyone else with high-functioning asperger's. i hate it when people make assumptions about my handicaps, and i'm sorry that i made you feel that shitty.

again though, from the messages i've gotten here, i'm honestly wondering about people with asperger's who do need some sort of help. i mean that in the least offensive possible way.
