No, he was born in Kenya.

I think that's somewhere between Austin and San Antonio.

It's not difficult to see what the religious right's problem is with Thomas Jefferson...

They [the clergy] believe that any portion of power confided to me, will be exerted in opposition to their schemes. And they believe rightly; for I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. But this is all they have to fear from me: and enough, too, in their opinion. ~to Dr. Benjamin Rush, Sept. 23, 1800

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes. ~to Alexander von Humboldt, Dec. 6, 1813.

And specifically on Calvin...

I can never join Calvin in addressing his god... his religion was Daemonism. If ever man worshipped a false god, he did. ~to John Adams, April 11, 1823

The Board struck the word “democratic” from the description of the U.S. government, instead terming it a “constitutional republic.”

even a broken clock is right twice in a day but I guess once is better than none.

Of course the government was converted to a democracy, inviolation of  the organic constitution, and the very thing the founders abhorred, even the federalists.

and that is what its about today.  Its not about acknowledging all religions equally, but acknowledging atheism as the preferred religion of government.

Gerrymandering is another in the long list of things that is delightful, sunny, natural and good when the Dems do it but proof that Satan walks among us [sm=evil.gif] when the Republicans learn the same trick.

Yep, we got the shaft, and not a jar of Vaseline in sight [>:] The fuckers actually split my county in half!

Now, though I'm a life-long registered Democrat, I do vote per issue, and not all my beliefs are on the left, and I don't even necessarily disagree with some of that these jackasses are proposing in the textbooks, but as I posted earlier, some of it boggles my mind.

Yes. This is (pardon me) a textbook example of why it's the business of every rational person in the United States to make a stand against the right-wing religious lunatics trying to force the rest of the country to live in accordance with their ignorant superstitions. This is why it's appropriate for people in Massachusetts to take an interest and voice an opinion on Congresswoman Michelle Bachman in Minnesota, for example. It's not just about how these wackos want to run their home town or their county - they want the entire country to live by their belief systems, and like cockroaches you need to stamp on them the first time you see one scurry out from under the garbage can. No matter what part of the house the garbage happens to be located in, because if you don't, they'll wind up infesting the entire structure.

Level and I are BOTH from and live in TX. I AM a Liberal. I vote. May the powers that be please keep Perry and any other Repubs out of Austin! Yeah, the state that can never seem to come anywhere NEAR NAAQS wanted to build 11 new coal fired power plants and Perry tried to rush it through. How much sense does that make? Not everyone in Texas is a fucking idiot. This used to be a Dem state til repubs gerrymandered us to hell and back. All behind closed doors, of course.

ETA: We've been going to hell in a handbasket ever since!

Hey, I am from TX and although I'm an Independent, I am quite liberal on many issues. Me, you and Level makes 3. You think we could make some signs and form our own march and protest in Austin or something? Think it would do any good?

No, I live between Austin and San Antonio and there are no black people here. I would have seen Obama if that was true.

It could happen! Though, I don't think 3 is enough.

What's going to happen in November? The passing of curriculum dealing with Adam and Eve?

And you may not find if bothersome that they deleted the impact Jefferson and the Enlightenment had, certainly in regard to the founding of this nation, and on society as a whole, but it boggles my mind.

What boggles my mind is that, previously, John Calvin had been omitted.
TJ is covered elsewhere.

A little thing called taking back the Congress is going to happen in November. Stay tuned.

truckinslave -> RE: Texas Board of ED bans Thomas Jefferson from text books (3/13/2010 12:00:42 PM)

Thank you for pointing that out to me.

The disestablishment clause has been so badly mistaught for so long that people have trouble believing Jefferson taxed the citizens of Va to support the State Church.

How about just "keep your fucking god out of my life," or is that somehow too complex for you to comprehend?

Rhetorical question there, don't strain yourself trying to come up with a coherent answer, Dr. Cold Fusion.
